ohhhhh nice!
Seed Snatchin' XIX
Ooh, Lala.... nice! That's one I've been wanting to try... I'm sure it's too late to include some for me in Suzy's seed swap, but maybe we can trade or something on down the line...
I should've recognized those pods, too! I knew they looked familiar but couldn't quite place them... Thanks, ZZ and Suzy!
Ooooo!!!! Lots of little penstemon babies in your forecast. Nice snatch!
Oh wow. I'm almost giddy with excitement LOL. I feel like I've just stumbled into the lost Aztec gold or something! Now I have to go look it up for myself!
Wait a minute guys. I just looked at Husker's Red Penstemon on PF & it has different leaves. They're long & lance shaped. Not like the pix above. Are you sure about the ID?
No, I'm not sure. I was thinking of the Penstemon that would be a landscape candidate and that's the only one you buy in this area (the midwest) at gallon size discounted landscape prices. Since it had white flowers (our only clue besides the photo) I figured it was a BINGO!
I jumped to a conclusion I shouldn't have.
Sorry, again,
Suzy
I have an idea.. why don't we all get some seed from Jane and grow it and do a scientific calculation and conclusion as to the identity of said seeds :) You could name them "Dads getting well at the hospital seeds" :)
Susan
I have several heuchera and also several penstemons and I think it looks like heuchera.
I didn't have time to come back before work yesterday, but I thought the same thing (as Pam) when I looked the Penstemon up in PF. Maybe it is a heuchera and I've just never seen one that mature? I guess time will tell. And trust me......if any of the seeds germinate I will surely be back with photos in hand.

Weezins.. I would recognize this hand anywhere.. Did someone snatch your pic??!!!??
:)
oh...and I'm looking at seeds.. do you like this plant??
Susan
I'm not WZ, but it's wonderful! Maybe Santa will put it in your can.
Suzy
ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, maybe I should make my Christmas list out on this thread for "Santa" to see. hehe
Good grief, that is me! I've become a model on Annie's Annuals...the photo swipin' buzzards! They must have cropped it to get rid of the copyright. LOL!
Here's the photo in Plantfiles, and it hasn't been cropped on Annies... how did they get rid of the watermark? http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/showimage/63133/
Well, that's weird. I didn't think it was very easy to get rid of the watermark like that and I assumed you gave them the seeds, the plants and the photo.
And Susan, how the heck did you recognize her HAND????
Suzy
She probably recognized my dirty fingernails... they are in most of my pics!
Someone is entitled to compensation for the picture they used w/o permission!! It wouldn't be too hard to edit out the watermark with a photo editor. ( I wouldn't know but my son said so). Also I wonder how many other pics they have "borrowed" from the DG site?
People have borrowed my photos before. I really don't care, unless they misidentify. I've asked Dave about the watermark.
I recognized it because I'm a plant and seed nerd and in my spare time I google images of plants and seeds I don't know but might want to grow.. So I saw your hand in the PF's AND Annies.. it wasn't the first one either...
And here's another one for your amusement http://www.anniesannuals.com/plants/plant_display.asp?prodid=2125&account=none
and
http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/showimage/43914/
exact same pic..closer in.. For that one I D-mailed admin.. and they are d-mailing the picture owner to see..but I thought it was very suspect given it looked like the DG copyright was cut out!
I want to figure out how to do a soulgardenlove watermark across my PF pics now.. The only folks snatching here should be us!
:)

Thread Link :)
WZ, please let admin know about this. Dave is pretty protective of our copyrights, and even if you're willing to let it slide I think he'd like to know.
I'll generally let people use photos if they ask (always if it's not for commercial use)... but I do like to be asked! And it's only fair to keep photographer credit with the image.
Even if they'd have captioned it with with compliments of Dave's Garden, I'd have been fine with it.
I wonder if they know we're checking it out b/c now the link to greek yarrow does not have a picture. Says "sorry no pic". Hmmmm.
Hey I have a snatchin' story to share. I have been wanting to stop at this one house that I pass all the time to tell the owner how pretty her flowers are every year. I stopped once before but no one was home. So Sunday on the way home from church I stopped again. I also wanted to ask if I could snatch some of her hardy geranium seeds. Turned out to be a sweet elderly lady & she dug up some & gave it to me. I was afraid she would fall and get hurt & then I would have felt terrible. She also broke some branches off something that had fuschia color berries or seed pods on it. Really beautiful! She didn't know what it was but she said try it so I came home & put some rooting hormone on it & stuck it in soil. If it grows I'll have to put a pic on the plant ID forum. I'm not even sure if it's a shrub or a vine. It was growing up thru a rose of sharon & I couldn't tell. She also pulled up something that might be a weed & gave it to me. She said they pop up everywhere. It has buds so if it doesn't freeze before it gets a chance to open maybe I can figure out what it is. I guess gardeners just naturally enjoy sharing their bounty. I would have been happy with a few seeds but she says she always gives some to anyone who likes it. And she has her whole front yard bordered with it. When it blooms it's really striking!
Yes, most gardeners like to share, and you probably made her day.
Sweet story! :)
Kids I just got back from a vacation in Tucson and the snatcher in me had me collecting seeds from plants I could never hope to raise. My suitecase was ever so much fuller on the way home and I did not do a single lick of shopping! My traveling companions (who bare no resemblance what-so-ever to a pair of gardners) even became over-zealous in their efforts to contribute to the cause and were thrusting seeds into my hand at every avenue. Any body have any ideas what a zone 5 gardner can do with mesquite seeds.....or palo verde seeds.....or bird of paradise, bougainvillea, lantana, agave, cactus.............................?
Trade!!
Hey! I have a good snatchin' story. (Hope I didn't already tell this one.) I found a garden phlox on clearance at Lowe's the other day for $.10. But the majority of the pot was filled with another plant. It turns out to be lyre leaf sage (probably 'burgandy bliss') which had obviously volunteered from seeds fallen from a nearby plant. And on the sage was a seed spike with 18 seeds. How's that for 10 cents?
wowza!
Keep up the good work, Snatchers!
Jane, get out your pots & potting soil.
We had a high of 78 yesterday and more of the same today?? I think I'm going to get my beds ready for a very early spring.. Weather like that makes me want to work outsode anyway.
Susan
Susan, do you want to come over and help me plant some iris? I don't know what I'm waiting for, I hear the rain is coming our way. My cannas are putting on new growth, gerber daisies are blooming too, crazy weather!
My inlaws just moved to Ft. Lauderdale and they can't believe we have weather as nice as they do.
Have fun!
Susan G
I'm suprised that no one has mentioned snatching seed or babies of an adult plant from McDonalds. That's what I did. McDonalds has been growing this beautiful orange colored ginger for the last couple of years. Down by the base of a mature plant was a baby ripe for picking. As I was headed for the drive through I opened my door and scooped it up. Yay! Then I calmly placed my order and got my food and left with my ginger and my food. What a good day.
Carol
ohhh Susan.. I'll be right over.. just as soon as I get mine done!
Oh Carol.. The perfect drive through snatch!! :)
Susan,
Yes, it was definately a drive through snatch. But, the baby is happy in my Ginger garden. It was made to be there.
Carol :)
Carol, do you suppose that baby ginger's picture is going to appear on the side of a McDonald's milk carton?
Gives a whole new meaning to the term "drive-by".
