Can we submit photos to plant files from journals?

Brunswick, MD(Zone 6b)

I was wondering if there is already a way, or if there can be a way, to submit photos that we already have in our journals to the plant files? Suppose you no longer have the photo on your hard drive or are at a different computer. Right now I copy it back to the computer from the journal and then submit it to the plant files. It would be nice to have something like "submit a photo to plant files" to click on, maybe in the "manage your journal" list. I'm great about keeping the photos current in my journal, but am very lazy about submitting to plant files. And just point my in the right direction if something like this already exists. Thanks!

I agree. What I have done is download the .jpg from my journal then upload it to PF. However the copyright mark is over written and hard to read when I do it. You can load a pic from PF to your journal; why not the other way around.

To stop the copyright from looking messy like that, you can go into your preferences and temporarily turn off the copyright when you upload it the 2nd time, then your original copyright will show through. It would be easier if there was a way to do it the way you're asking, but until/unless that happens, this is the way around the copright looking messy.

And if you're loading pics from PF into your journal, you have to go through the same process--save it to your hard drive, then re-upload it, there's no way to directly transfer pics from PF into journals (someone was just asking about this on here a couple days ago). If you import the plant into your journal from Plant Files, then there'll be a link back from your journal to the Plant Files entry, but you have to go to the PF entry to see the picture, it won't be directly in your journal.

Many members use their journal to catalog noid ("no identity") plants, unnamed/unregistered seedlings, etc. And that's a great use for your journal. But those plants should stay in your journal - if you aren't reasonably certain about the plant's true identity, then we shouldn't put photos of it in a PlantFiles entry and hold it out to the world as representative of that species or variety.

Thats why we structured the hierarchy and relationship between PlantFiles and journals as you see it today. Think of it as a one-way street that runs from PF into your journal, not vice-versa (journal to PlantFiles), nor is it a two-way street where data can flow back and forth between the two.

As Liz already suggested, you can suspend the watermark within your profile. Another - even more flexible - option is to uncheck the copyright box as you upload each photo into PlantFiles if it already has your watermark on it.

I didn't think that every photo should be automatically linked. I would make sure that all plants that I submit to Plants Files are ID'd correctly, as should everyone. I was just hoping not to have to upload the picture twice. By the time I finish what I was doing in my journal, I've either run out of time or inclination to put what I'd like to in the Plant Files. I would probably submit more to the plant files if there were an option from the journal. Just looking for a lazy persons way out :)
