An interesting purpurea in that is seems to like to "sprawl" just as well as climb.

This 'hot pink' is nice...it could be Candy Pink...do you recall if the seeds were light or dark(?)...

I like it whatever color the seeds are...
This one
http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/fp.php?pid=3958698
is interesting...x-mas list please
No 'tricky' shape and back lighting comparisons on these...

The Heavenly Blue on the right is the new improverd darker version >not the earlier baby powder blue...it doesn't have the light shining through it from the back like the bloom on the right and it's only got 4 ribs and is square...
The type of comparison that 'someone' (?) needs to be do with these for proper clarification is the improved darker Heavenly Blue next to the original Clarke's powder blue next to a light seeded Blue Star next to the 'summer skies' NOT...and all in the same type of frontal direct and background reflected light...
That comparison will show the differences between the 4 different types...but I still like the square HB that you got...
Nice show and tell...

Seeds were dark on the "candy pink?"
I'll try to do a better job on the lighting when comparing Heavenly Blues. Up till you mentioned it, I didn't know there WAS a new improved darker version. Despite the one on the right being more backlite, it was slightly lighter...though definitely not the "summer skies" it was advertised to be! Unfortunately, the only darker HB I had blooming today was the weird "square" one. I guess I should also try to find Clarke's powder blue next year for comparison. This is the first year I grew HB in Oregon so I am still learning.
Absolutely beautiful Beth!!
Hey Beth - I didn't think you arranged the display to be intentionally misrepresentative..
.I just thpought I should bring attention to important aspects...
Here's the link to the threads where the Summer Skies and Heavenly Blues were addressed previously

Is the tube on that Hot Pink completely solid(?)...just wondering...

I thought of moving the different HB's to an evenly shady place, but that meant cutting them off and since they have just started blooming I am hesitant to do that. I'm still hoping they will make seeds in time! I may cut some of the later ones and photograph them better. I haven't found any white in the throat of the Hot Pink so I think it is totally solid. This is an odd nil that I grew in the greenhouse last winter and it didn't bloom at all. When it got cold it started to shrivel. I put it out this summer and it has reluctantly started to bloom, but has yet to set any seeds. I think its "rhythm" is off because I germinated the seeds at a strange time of year.
Maybe try some hand pollination on the solid pink and see if that helps(?)...
LOL!!!....first thing every morning...I'm out there in my nightie with a paintbrush covering every bloom in the garden. Good thing I don't have any neighbors!
