Why would an addition of a African Violet not be accepted?

I attempted about a month ago to start trying to upload new African Violets with the hybridizers name and my own picture. They were not accepted, so I just decided to not upload anymore. Is anyone really paying attention to the new entries people are submitting?

There is not a doubt in my mind as to the authenticity of these names and hybridizers.

What message did you receive back?

Was it a possible duplicate, or did the system indicate there was a problem with the family and/or genus name?

Was it your entry that you didn't think went through, or the pictures? Pictures don't go in right away, they wait in a queue for a day or two before they go in, so if the pics weren't showing up right away that's probably what was going on. I looked at your member page and you do have 2 AV entries, were those the ones that you thought didn't go through, or were these other ones?

Otherwise I think it's probably one of the things Terry suggested, I don't think Plant Files rejects an entry unless you either spelled the genus or family wrong, or there's already an entry for that plant that someone else created.

the two entries that they are there were done a long time ago..........

I never received anything about the two african violets (as far as anything from the site...).They just are not there.

I am wondering if I maybe (trying to follow instructions on a thread as to how to do it) should have been actually clicking the part that says "add a new plant"........ In my mind I am simply adding a new photo because the plant is already there (AFrican Violet) the name 'Newtown Shared Venture' is not listed under African violets ........because this is not a new plant but just a new cultivar that I am adding.............let me try the adding a new plant and see what happens.

(Now this is as clear as mud to you all............but I know what I am trying to say............let me try again and come back in a week and see if they have been added)

The two entries I see from you look like they're both from 7/23 of this year (at least that's when the pics were entered, I don't know when the entries were created). A new cultivar that's not in Plant Files would require you to add a new plant, the way the database works is each cultivar counts as a different plant. So if your cultivar's not in the database, you need to add it. I'm not sure what you were trying to do before or where you were trying to enter the info, but the only way you'll get anywhere is by using the "add a new plant" link.

I am more embarrassed than I have ever been on DG. You are right and I just found them under the most recently added pictures. I am soooooooooooo sorry ecrane and Terry for taking up your time with my absolutely stupid mistake.

The good news?? I am excited to start adding pictures out of my own pictures files to the site.

It's all a learning curve so you shouldn't be embarrassed at all! Sometimes we have in mind how it should work and there are so many wonderful features here, one can get lost. That's why I try to click on everything at least once too see what I may be missing. Even then, I have been known to email admin for help!

This is getting to be funny now. I am all fired up to upload plants and I have the necessary botanical information................i just can't find my pictures. They are in no order.

I am going to wait until I can find a way to organize my pictures...........they can't be any older than Janurary when I first started posting on Dave's site, yet there are sooooooooo many. I can't imagine waiting years to start organizing............this is bad enough for me with 7 months of pics.

Whoo Hooo, I am always cheeerleading forum members to get those images uploaded. Fired up for this is good! I now try to edit and upload within a day or so of taking them.

Now, organizing those images, I can't help you. I am behind at that myself although I do use Picasa program to crop, edit and such and export them to special folders so that helps.

I am going to have the computer tech come out next week anyway. He builds computers so he can show me a way to organize the pics...............I literally could not have a computer if it weren't for him. He sells custom computers all over the United States and can service them because he can take over their computers from his office and instruct them on what to do.

He can't do that with me as I know very little about this machine.

Gessiegail looks like you are doing just fine you have just added some to PF with no problem at all. Good job and great pics.

I have to find a way to organize my pictures................put all the information in on 'Squeeze Toy' and then couldn't find the picture...............thanks so much and i now at least know how so there is no excuse .................if I get a second wind tonight I am going to add a lot more.
