Gray Haze
Morning Glories 2007 # 14
Thanks Emma :) Do you suppose there's any chance seeds developed on the sporty foliage section would retain the variegation? It is developing buds so I'll be keeping an eye on it, hand pollinate it, who knows! Love that plum one but the muted color of Gray Haze is just beautiful!
azreno,
Thank you!
Growing out the seeds again is definitely worth the effort to see if you get the same foliage. I would recommend growing some this year from your first pods you collect to see what they do. I have very similar foliage growing on one of my vines as well this year.
Emma
azreno, That hige is looking great. All these flowers are beautiful. I decided to do something nice for everyone this morning so I compiled a album of assorted pictures of blooms from my garden.
I`m really looking forward to the grow outs and seed trades this fall. I have invested a lot of my time and energy into this forum and I have commitments and agreements with people on and offlist. I will be here and take care of these things as much as possible. Homeschooling is beginning soon but then in the fall the yardwork slows down a bit. My computer has been slow and sometimes I`m sitting here waiting for it to work so be patient and give me time to respond to emails.
I`m also growing out some Sazanami and I want to share some seeds from that if anyone wants them. They are definitely not big seed makers but I`m getting a few 3-5 seeds pods forming on those.
Here is my album I was working on ths morning.

I can`t believe it finally happened. My kikyo ten ten bloomed! Ya`ll have a great day.
Since I had plenty of seeds from several different sources I decided to tuck a few into my window boxes. These are growing beautifully but haven't flowered yet. The ones on the left side have a larger variegated leaf and I will post pics when they bloom but I thought you might be interested in seeing how I used them. I hung a piece of cotton string over the top of the window and wrapped one tendril around it and let it go.
The first picture is a ipomoea purpurea and the second one is a ipomoea nil. More detail should follow as far as variety.
I have been growing these vines with a interest in names and varieties for only a couple years. Before that I always had a garden and grew lots of things but I never got into scientific names and names of cultivars until recently. I`m learning as I go.
Karen - Lovely kikyo ten ten! Nice album of MGs! What is this one? http://picasaweb.google.com/gardenpics2007/20070525/photo?authkey=tQHwHMvbqt0#5094152215956539234
It has very nice stripes/blocks and deep color!
Holly - I'm new to MGs, too, so am just learning names. I love your window box idea. Looks great!
Thanks, That is a hybrid F2 in a grow out of a cross of Mt Fuji and ukigumo. I don`t even remember if I put a tag on it. It is in a mass of vines headed up the tree in the back yard. I`m afraid these might just take over the property.
Gorgeous flowers everyone.
Paul, Have you talked to X lately? Where's Arlan?
Jackie
Holly - I may have sent you some. I do quite a bit of seed trading and don't remember what I sent to who! LOL! All I know is that I do the seed shuffle regularly because I am new to gardening myself and want to try a number of different plants to see what works in my garden and what doesn't. I very well may have sent you MG seeds! :-) I do want to see a photo when your window box vines bloom! I bet they will be beautiful! It does look lovely the way that you arranged those boxes! :-)
Tell X she is missed and not forgotten.
I heard from X on July 24th. She grew about 6 of the youjiro x ukigumo F2 They came out all spoked blue like the youjiro. I sent her some seeds just `cause and she got back with me to thank me. I also wish she would post. I always enjoyed her posts. When we were new on here she became a favorite of ours right away. Karen
Deb, those are incredible beauties
Karen I want to play in your yard!!
Love them all but partial to the blues! These are spectacular!!

Deb - Oooh and awe ..... do you suppose they were Japanese MGs? NICE ones! That must have been a delight and surprise to see! It'd sure make my day! Thanks for sharing them with us! :-)
Has anyone grown any MGs that are consider Florida natives? I just found the seeds that someone sent me. Tiny seeds. There wasn't a name on them. I think I'll try growing one or two of them now.
Gerris - I don't know what the blooms of the Ipomoea albivenia look like, but the foliage sure is lush! I like the color of your cool blue. My daughter's bedroom walls are painted close to the lighter color in your blooms. :-)
Emma - Every time I check this thread, I see your Plum Frost bloom. The more I look at it, the more I think it is a true winner! I hope you get more blooms like that! What an attractive flower!
Joseph - REALLY??? Oh my goodness ..... I can't wait to see the blooms! What color do you think the blooms will be? White? Pink? That's really exciting!!!
Hello, I've been growing just the old fashioned mixed MG. I would like to try the MG that blooms longer in the day. Would someone be kind enough to point me in the right direction with the name/variety? I have them surrounding my patio for privacy and would love some flowers in the afternoon. Mine are in very light shade and bloom longer than those in full sun.
Thank you!
Joseph - As always, a superb show
Love this

and WONDERFUL that you are getting seeds from your awesome JMG.
Joseph, I vote YES, that your bloom is Kikyozaki TenTen.
Becky,
Thanks about my 'Plum Frost'. I love it too and also hope I can get it stabilized.
I hope, I hope, I hope . . .
Becky, re:

Holy smokes, are your seeds round [Actually almost round] They only look round because they are so small?
What color? Light Brownish-Tan?

What part of Florida did your seeds come from?
You just MAY have Jacquemontia curtisii that everyone has been drooling about.

If they are, Ron or someone may need to give you some specific germination instructions that I don't know the answer.
PLEASE, tell me this is what you have *-*

Mt Fuji Japanese Morning Glory blooms all day.
You can get them from Parks,
OR,
I can send you some.
D-Mail me
Emma
Emma - I don't think I have Jacquemontia curtisii. The seeds are dark brown. See photo attached. I don't remember who I got them from, but I believe it was someone here on this forum. (Though I can't remember for sure.)
In the attached photo, the seeds are taped to a piece of paper that was sent to me. The larger seed is that of your Fuji Hot Pink Frost for comparison.
What other kind of Florida native MG could it be? The ones that grow on the sand dunes? I guess I will just have to grow a couple out to know for sure! :-)
I wonder if it is this one?

Deb, beautiful flowers
Karen, Yours blues are spectacular that Ronnie linked to.
Thanx for the update on X. We all miss her posts.
Joseph, your flowers are gorgeous as usual. Love the blues.
Jackie
Hey everyone,
Gorgeous blooms today! Congrats!
Lurkin' and learnin'
Joanne
Becky,
Your seeds could still be a Jacquemontia, even though they are darker. I was just 'assuming' they were a lighter seed color. At least the couple of seeds of Jacquemontia that I have seen were.
Yours are definately not pes-caprae
http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/808/
Pes-caprae seeds are quite large [at least the seeds I collected in Acapulco were large] and slightly hairy

Maybe Ron will have some input.
Emma
All the blooms are looking great...
azreno - I think your 'white' is actually "Gray Lady"
http://davesgarden.com/forums/fp.php?pid=3809681
http://davesgarden.com/pf/showimage/81264/
The varigation on these tri-lobes
http://davesgarden.com/forums/fp.php?pid=3809686
is particularly nice...
HollyAnnS - Star of Yelta...very nice one lower right with the large fuchia throat and halo
http://davesgarden.com/forums/fp.php?pid=3810449
HollyAnnS - the Ipomoea nil you posted here
http://pics.davesgarden.com/pics/HollyAnnS_1186086035_276.jpg
looks somewhat similar to the
"Roman Candy"
http://davesgarden.com/pf/showimage/52411/
but your flower is more likely to be one of the 'lavender' out of the Early Call mix...
momcat - Ipomoea nil Blue Tie Dye
http://pics.davesgarden.com/pics/momcat_1186095785_834.jpg
beckygardener - Hmmm...the seeds are a bit difficult to see but I think they are Ipomoea cordatotriloba...
http://pics.davesgarden.com/pics/beckygardener_1186113363_619.jpg
TTY,...
Ron
Joseph I vote for Ten Ten also!! Nice
What is the name of this one? http://davesgarden.com/forums/fp.php?pid=3811745
