Here is my PLUM FROST 'Finally'
Morning Glories 2007 # 14
Oh my gosh, Emma! THAT MG bloom (above) is beautiful!!! I think I might have one or two of these seeds. I will be starting a seed for it if I am correct and have any left that I got from Cat! Really lovely!!!! What a wonderful pattern and color combo!
I thought I'd solved my chewed vines dilemma, but alas .... no. So I have been busy trying to devise a way to grow new MG vines in long rectangular planters surrounded by chicken wire. I have two mice .... an adult and a baby mouse in my yard. I've spotted them twice, so looks like they are here to stay until the flooding stops and things dry up. (Which may not be for some time.)
I think we have been getting all the rain that Texas got a month ago. It's been raining off and on for a couple weeks now. I plan to get the planters started tomorrow and out in the yard to benefit from all this rain. This is really hard having to deal with the mice and the rain when I am so anxious to grow some more MGs. Tomorrow ..... hopefully. :-)
Thanks Joseph and Becky.
I almost fell over when these started blooming.
Becky, the problem I've had with getting this bloom back is that #1 it has been sporatic. #2 SO many of my original Plum Frost seeds that I grew out, as well as others that I shared them with, has NOT given me/them 'Plum Frost' - but HAS given me some absolutely amazing MGs. Now, all I can do is see how this one will grow out, and I hope to do that this year with the first seeds. These have some powerfully strong genes.
Hope you get rid of your 'visitors'.
Emma
Emma, that is the most lovely MG. The way the darker star shows up on the lighter background is stunning.
Joanne
Thank you Joanne,
It is so unusual. I hope I can keep it True this time.
Emma
Emma, Love the Plum Frost, it's a beauty.
me too - the star spokes look a little like the narrow feathered lobes of a lace-leaf maple
Emma , don't get discouraged. These beauties have a major disadvantage, low seed numbers. This makes it take longer to get sustained results. If you got 300 seeds per flower as happens with some other flowers, your target zone would at least be in a larger group of seeds.
Plum frost is one outstanding flower.
We are having a cold summer here, and the Shibori flaked I have blooming on the porch are only 2.5 inches, but nice inches. Frank
I like the plum frost, hoping mine will flower soon to compare...
Emma - What is the MG that bloomed all day and into the night? That's quite amazing! I haven't grown one yet that didn't wilt the minute the sun touched it.
Ronnie - Your Kohkan and Xiongs are beautiful. Love that white edging! Is that a red or scarlet color for the Kohkan?
Ronnie,
What a Show of Blooms. Just Gorgeous
Thanks Jackie, Becky, and bluespiral,
and especially Thank you Frank for the encouragement. Frank, 3 years ago I did grow a large number of these seeds and you wouldn't believe all of the awesome blooms that turned out. I've never seen anything like it. Only one was Plum Frost. But, like you say, I'll not give up yet. Maybe I can get it stabilized eventually. It is too pretty to give up on. Thanks again,
Emma
Emma - Perhaps you missed my question .... what is the all-day bloomer posted above?
Becky,
Yes, I did and just thought about that too. Sorry!
This one

Is a new MG from last year that I grew again this year that has remained True. I haven't given it a name yet.
It was open all day because of the rainy day we had and it happened to be hid in a corner where the rain didn't beat it up. . . Pretty neat, huh!
You will get similar blooms when the weather starts to cool down as well.
Emma
This 'Berlin Blue' isn't from the weather, but is another bloom that was still open at night that had turned to a deep Purple color
Oooooooooooo Awwwwwwwwwwwww I LOVE em all!
Yes Joseph it does!! Thanks..
Becky the Kohkan is more on ther red side than many but still not true red!!
Those are lovely! I love watching the blue ones that fade to purple. Emma, did you get any of the old Mandeville to sprout? None of mine did :(
Went to Ace Hardware to see if *maybe* they still had seeds since Wally World most definately did not. Yipeee!! They had the Burpee, including the Scarlett O'hara (sp?) I'd been wanting...sadly they didn't have the mixes ya'll had referred to on the previous thread but they did still have plenty of the "tall mix" - if anyone "needs" those, I'd be happy to pick some up.
Chantell - Here is my "Scarlett O'Hara" from Burpee. RON says it looks more like Wine and Roses.
This is one of the few vines I have left standing after the rodents decided to sharpen their teeth by severing my vines at the root. I've come up with a makeshift planter. If ya got a moment, take a peek at my new MG planter (scroll down to the bottom of this thread) to give me any suggestions before I fill it with dirt and plant some more MG seeds:

Becky - as pretty as that bloom is - I'm gonna be a tad upset since my goal was to plant a Red MG with a red Passi on a trellis in the back...ugh!!
Joseph,
YES, I love your Xiong -

AND,
It looks to me like it is STAYING TRUE!
Beth,
on the old Mandeville - that is one of many that I am going to be starting now that my world has settled down a bit. Have you gotten blooms since I've missed out on much of your Thread?
Azreno -
INCREDIBLE!
LOVE - LOVE - LOVE THIS ONE

Thanks for sharing,
Emma
L@@K AT WHAT DIDN'T GROW BACK TRUE. . .
Now, this is the fun when I get a bloom that DOES NOT grow back 'True'.
I have about 50-MGs growing at one of our city facilities and haven't been there regularly. This is from one of those vine. I was there at about 11:30am and need to go early in the am and get a better shot of this beauty.
The photos don't do it justice as in person.
It is a SMOKY PLUM color.
Just Awesome. . .
Emma
