Prescott, AZ

Very pretty Ann, wish we could smell it.

Nice score David, keep us updated on it's progress.

Another close-up of H. arnottiana. A couple of umbels are open, and the whole house is perfumed. One of my favorites now!

Well, yours is a tough act to follow Mark, but, here is my pride and joy for the month. H. archboldiana rates in my top 10 favorites!

Mark and Mel - those are just beautiful shots!!

Mark, what kind of sun does your waymaniae get?

Prescott, AZ

I suck at H.waymaniae too. Beautiful flower and photo.

Mel you lucky girl, that is so pretty !!

San Francisco, CA

Ann, an hour or so of direct sun in the afternoon, super-bright indirect the rest of the day.
Mel, is that the white kind or the pink kind of archboldiana?

Knoxville, TN

Can't say for sure, Mark. It is kind of a cream color with a circle of dark pinkish/ red. I got this plant from Gardinos nursery several years ago. I think last year it bloomed more pink than this year.

Great Falls, MT(Zone 4a)

Ahhh Mel, that flower looks like the divinity candy that my grandmother would make every Christmas!!

Long Beach, CA

OK...so since tonight I am finally at the place with the computer that I can put pictures on, I have some bloom pics from over the summer.
This is H. pubicalyx 'Reva' that bloomed for me for the first time since I got it in 2003. (Looks just like 'Pink Silver' to me...ha ha)

This is a NOID I got from Lydia a few years ago that finally bloomed. I believe it to be a verticillata of some kind. What do you think?

Two nice big umbles of motoskei open together. I notice these blooms last a long time (longer than carnosa blooms). Do you find that true of yours too?

My (I guess it is fusco-marginata but I bought it labeled vitilina) bloomed for the first time this year. I LOVED this pretty bloom but it didn't last very long (a few days).

Marcy, those are just BEAUTIFUL!!!

My pusilla also bloomed (3 flowers) for the first time this summer. Got this plant from Carol a couple of years ago and it grows like a WEED. It has vines that hang down several feet. I also love it's very shiny leaves. The bloom looks very much like lacunosa don't you think? It smells good too, but different than lacunosa.

I am just loaded with "first timers" this year. Ha.
This is my obscura major that got this one bloom shortly after Sara said hers bloomed. I almost didn't find it. Actually Paul spotted it and said, "Did you know you have a bloom on that plant by the front door". I thought he was trying to trick me, but low & behold ...there it was behind one of those big leaves. Ha. (He knows how to make me do hoya dances..lol)

This kanyakumariana bloomed last year also, but only ever gets this one little bloom on it. Ha. Cute though.

And last but far from least...is a bloom way up in the tree. This cinnamomifolia has always blasted its buds before, so I just let it climb this year, and it worked. Ha.

Had to climb up there to get this shot. It's very pretty, but I didn't notice any particular smell. Of course it was daytime..(I wasn't about to climb around in that tree at night with spiders, etc. ...I do have my hoya smelling limits..ha ha)

Th.. that's all folks. This isn't a hoya bloom, but I thought the red seed pods of the king palms with australis 'Mrs G' hanging under them and the pea-pod flag would be good way to end this thread.
All the August blooms were just beautiful friends. It looks like we all had a blooming time this summer.

Just beautiful shots Marcy - I especially liked your second one of the H. cinnamomifolia! Those King Palm seed pods are gorgeous too.
Ann

Thanks Ann. I was surprised I got that clear of a shot. It is sooo hard to hold a camera steady when you are balancing on a ladder and hanging on to a tree branch. LOL

Wonderful pics and hoyas. Glad you posted them, Marcy!!!

Medford, NJ

Thanks Marcy!

Knoxville, TN

Awesome blooms Marcy!

Great Falls, MT(Zone 4a)

Geeesh Marcy those blooms are amazing!!! I love the picture with the seed pods! Those are worth seeing even if there weren't a hoya under them . My son was looking over my shoulder, and thought they looked like something from another planet. HA.

It was Tami who had the obscura major bloom, not me :( . I wish it was me, but that is ok, I can live vicariously through all of your beautiful photos!

Congrats on your obscura Marcy, it's really gonna start popping out the peduncles now. It seemed like I had a couple one day and then they were just all over the plant.

Pretty Blooms

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

Marcy...your H. verticillata blooms are just that!!! Don't they smell awesome????ly.heheh

What do you think has caused your plants to bloom so well this year???? Drier? Wetter? different fert? I haven't been following LA weather so don't know what is going on....did you ignore them? I have a theory that many don't bloom when they are happy!!!
