Seemama, I have seen photos of hoyas planted in the ground in South Texas, so I would imagine Fl is warm enough, esp if where you are doesn't get frost - though it sometimes does, right?
August Blooms
I have hoya's planted in the ground just north of Houston. Its under a big oak tree and has plenty of leaves covering them in Winter. They ended up wondering out of the pot through the summer and when we rushed to get them in for the Winter some broke off. They have been there for about three Winters.
Tami
Ditto on the nice pictures all have posted!
Mel
congrats Karen and derge!!!
H. cv. Noelle is soooo pretty, I love the color combo. It sure is a early, and eager bloomer.
Mark please show a photo of H. arnottiana when it opens, I went to Mass last Sunday and forgot to turn the swamp cooler on, and lost a few blooms from the 102 temps, arnottiana was one of them.
Nice shot Mark! I can't wait to see it opened.
OH, Julia...how beautiful!!!!! Mine is still growing...ONE little bloom on it this year.... I can't wait until it is grown up and thriving like yours!!!! Good work!!
Carol
That is just lovely, Julia!!
thanks Carol - I can't believe I have a plant that's thriving more than yours is! Luck of the draw, I think. This one grows quickly for me, for some reason.
buenas noches
Nice photo, Julia. How does 'Mathilde' smell?
Julia - absolutely gorgeous! Good growing!
Mark - how do you grow your arnottiana? I have one that I've had for a year - just sat there. This summer I repotted it, and it has s l o w l y put out only two more leaves. Is it typically a slow grower? Any thoughts would be appreciated!
Karen
Julia, I LOVE IT!!! I am sooo sure that Mathilde is my absolute favorite plant. I am glad that it finally bloomed for you.

The new blooms have a fresh perfume that fades over time. Another thing I really like about the flowers is that they're light green -- like my serpens -- when they open, and turn light pink. I guess this makes sense given the serpens x carnosa cross. Perhaps the plants does well is cold SF because serpens is found in the Himalayas? I don't know...but it is a cutie.
Julia
Thanks for the advice, we did get one night of frost last January but that was it, mostly it's hot and humid, so if it's ok in Texas it should be fine here. As soon as I get my first flowers I will post a picture, but I don't expect any till next year. I used to take lots of cuttings from my Bella in UK and pass them around, When I left I gave mine to my next door neighbour, she also raided my garden and took the all roses etc. because the new people had no interest in the garden at all.
My cv Mathilde has it's first peduncle, but it has been there a long time and still not even close to becoming flowers. I'd grow this plant for the foliage alone, though.
Purple!!! Didn't know about purple!
Ohhhh nice score Robin!!! That color is kinda making my mouth water........
By the way, dmichael just got one of those aff latifolias that you enjoy running your hands over, and needless to say, he admitted he sees the appeal now! HA!
HBM
Yes, boojum ... they do come in purple - doesn't the color look like one of those tart hard candies?
Yes, Hoya Batman, it was even smelling divine when it came out of the box - made my nose very happy! I am glad dmichael now understands my need to touch the aff. latifolia - Ha, now he too is unable to keep his hands to himself!
:-)
Ann, what a beautiful photo and what an exquisite color. No wonder Sandy is so anxious to see hers bloom. Are you finding that your hoya's are blooming alot more in your new home with all the light?
Tami, they do indeed!!!
It's as though I threw off the yoke of cloudy-rainyness and they have just gone nuts. I have never seen as much growth as I am seeing on my hoyas, and the amount of blooms I have had in the 6-weeks I have lived in CA is unbelievable. It really does feel like an embarrassment of riches. I must say, however, that I have to water a lot more than I did in Western Oregon - everything dries out very quickly here - oh, the price for such loveliness.
Thanks for the compliment, by the way!
:-)
Tami, I don't know if the N is silent, but that bloom is a screamin' beauty!!
LOL, Ann your post are such a joy to read !!! I find myself giggiling out loud... :)
Ann is Chowchilla close to Redlands? That's where my ex was born and raised.
Blessings,
Awanda
Awanda, Redlands are about 300 miles south of Chowchilla. I'm in central CA where they grow all the food and grapes for wine. When the wind is right it also smells like the nearby stockyards - YUCK!!
:-)
Tami...your sp. Ban N N (shhhhh...silent I believe) is one of my faves. Mine has been blooming for 5 months...blooming and blooming and the fragrance is devine. Don't you love the generousity of the flowers???? Good growing!!!!
Beautiful flower!
Tami or anyone else did you notice that the flower right in the center is only 4 points instead of 5 like the others? My hindu rope does this a lot. Many of the clusters will have as many as a half dozen or more flowers with only 4 points to the corrola and the corona.
I have a stapelia schinzii blooming today that opend with 6 points instead of the usual 5.
dmichael
Beautiful, Christina! I love the flowers on the vitellina!
Karen
Oh I love vitelinna too, what a beautiful color combo :O I'll have to have this one for sure. Beautiful Christina.
David I did notive that after I took it's picture. It's the first round of blooms for it, so we will see what it does next time.
Carol, it is a really early and eager bloomer, I like it alot. Although I couldn't detect hardly any smell. This bloom hung on for about 3 weeks, I was shocked. Are you getting a fuller bloom on yours?
Tami...I will try to find my picture...seems it was full, deep colored and VERY fragrant!!!
MyHoya's,
Those are four blooms I have never seen. Very pretty, all of them. I like the Vitellina the best but all are pretty.
Tami
