CLOSED: Secret Iris Trades started

Texas/Okla central b, United States(Zone 7b)

Bless your little HOT heart, believe me I can relate.

I have been thru Roswell many times in my travels westward, and usually about this time of year. Gratefully at least it is dry heat. Our humidity here is what kills this fat girl.

You say "thank you for taking them" to one as greedy as myself. What a charmer!

I appreciate that you will wait for my end of our trade. I would really like to make you a nice bundle and send them late Sept when your heat may be more bearable. I know a little about the goats. My daughter used to raise Boar. working your tail off, I'd bet.

I am hoping some one will host a trade for the no named or lost tag iris. Maybe send a flat rate box. That way many more people could participate.

I truely appreciate you. I now have many more starts than I could have done by myself, and interesting ones I knew nothing about.
Thanks a big

Roswell, NM(Zone 6a)

I hope some one will do a no name trade. I may have a bunch more after Sept. Thats when more of the ladies are planning on digging this year and if not then I know in July of next year I'll be swamped again, thats when the iris club has their rhyzome sale. So if there's one you just cant find let me know one of these ladies may have it. Well better get off and go check the set of twins that are a week old. Stay cool.

Greensboro, NC(Zone 7a)

I'll be digging out my NOIDs next week while I'm on vacation. I've got a 31/2 x 4 ft chunk that are around 8 yrs old and have never been divided. The flowers this year were really impacted by the crowding so much so that I can barely remember what color they were!

Susan, that is a really nice offer! I may have to see if we have an iris club/society around here. It sounds like ya'll get some great collecting opportunities.

Texas/Okla central b, United States(Zone 7b)

Susan I have been wanting Olymic Odyssey by Mary Dunn 1998 forever....I can't find anyone in the states that has it .Tempo II in Australia does but it cost a fortune from there

Rancho Cucamonga, CA

dmac, I'm looking for Robert Preston and Puccini if you don't mind asking for me. I truly appreciate it.

Texas/Okla central b, United States(Zone 7b)

Group, I got yet another boxed blessing today.

My secret pal was Happgarden. She sent me 5 large divisions of mothers with daughters......I swear I had none of the 5 great choices she made. She included four monthly magazines of Kansas Gardener and a large zip-bag of iris fertilizer to be applied spring and fall.

Joy, I really appreciate your thoughtfulness. I am glad you were my pal.

Roswell, NM(Zone 6a)

I'll keep an eye out for these and tell the girl thats in college at Las Crus to look down there. I got her involved this summer with the iris so she's joining the society there. Try to stay cool. We are getting the smell of rain and cooler temps this afternoon. The iris club here is a lot of fun, it meets at night and there is a lot of couples in it.

I just want to give you my deepest thanks for putting together this secret trade. It has been great fun and it appears no one will be left out. I know it has to have been a lot of work for you. For my part, I got some really interesting iris that I would never have found otherwise. Hope everyone else did as well.

Greensboro, NC(Zone 7a)

I can't believe this is the first time I've been able to stay on the internet for more than 3 min. in the past 3 days!

I received NeilTR's box at work on Wed. and had to bust right in. One of my non-gardening coworkers wondered why the plant wasn't sent with soil:lol: Tried to explain as simply as possible but you all know the look the non gardening types get...all glazed over and stuff ;)

Anyhow, I am so happy to have received a really awesome collection of 7 iris:

Cable Car (a most wanted for me)
Chinese New Year (another)
Pacific Belle
Ring Round Rosie
Autumn Tryst (rebloomer)
Lady Mohr (arilbred--have just discovered those and want to try one here)
Cherry Garden (sdb)

I built up my DG want list from the gorgeous photos posted by everyone so you know how big that got:LOL:

Thanks!

Grannymarsh..your box is being mailed out Monday

Nashville, TN(Zone 7a)

A BIG thank you to my secret trader (all I know is the package came from Maine - so you really are a secret trader.....). I have so many iris I almost didn't join in figuring I would get what I already had. But as we say down South - "You done good."

I got:
Brown Lasso
Lightshine
Let's Boogie
American Patriot
Red Duet
one noid
and a Highland Lord Daylily that the deer thank you for (they come right up to the house to eat the buds each year unless I remember to keep them sprayed).

I had bought Let's Boogie a few years ago and it turned out to be a misfill, so a double thanks for that one.

Thank you, again!

Neil

I just got on the time you posted just to see if you received the box, that was strange.

I am glad that you like what I had sent :-) oh I was so afraid since I am basically new to iris
and didn't have any named ones to split yet so I had ordered some from a grower here in Augusta.Hope they will do well for you.

I got mine a few days ago & thought I'd posted but obviously didn't hit submit or something.

Tammy sent me 3 gorgeous rhizomes of a tall purple bearded iris, as well as a package of FIFTY dutch iris bulbs to make sure I felt well cared for.

Much appreciated. Thanks so much, Tammy!

Tulsa, OK(Zone 7a)

Hi Summerkid, I'm glad you got your package.. I was be to beging to wonder if maybe you were caught in that storm or maybe your package was.. Great to hear that you got it.. I really thought I could buy you more Irises, but I guess I was wrong... The normal nursury I use was sold out so I was jacked up....
I'm glad you got the package and you were pleased...

Rose Lodge, OR(Zone 8b)

Tammy, I think actually that the dutch iris bulbs will be the best part of the trade because I have a spot that is crying out for them!

Oops - am cross-posting my thankyou here from the beginning thread of this trade -

Mrs. Tardy, here. I got overwhelmed with a few things this summer and haven't been posting much. This is a long overdue thank you to Jackie for starting this swap, to everyone for making it possible, and back to Jackie for taking over my secret trade when my original partner dropped out.

Fortunately for me, Jackie did not limit herself to sending just the blues, which I asked for. She sent the clear yellow Lemon Drop, the blu-ish pink Persian Berry, and (to me) the apricot-toned pink Beverly Sills which are really going to make all my blues come alive. And, then, that gorgeously unearthly ruffled powdered-blue beauty - Sea Power - how ever will I make it through the next couple of years until that one blooms??? And another powder-blue - Avalon Bay - to extend the shores of that color and the lavender River's Edge - so appropriately named for my future "blue stream of iris".

But, Jackie didn't stop with sending rhizomes - no - she included the March/April 1988 issue of Texas Gardener which has a wonderfully comprehensive article on iris - not to mention other subjects dear to my gardening heart like chrysanthemums, planting corn in a small space, companion planting, controlling pests with predators and other topics, all very informative and well written.

And! My printer is on the blink, so I also appreciated her sending color printouts of each iris from DG PlantFiles that I could shuffle around a table until I got a color flow I liked and could chart before planting my new treasures.

So, thank you again Jackie and all - and Happy Thanksgiving

Karen
