Water tolerant rees??

Sunset Beach, NC(Zone 8a)

Don't know which forum to post this on, so I'll start here. I'm in zone 8a just at the SC/NC line on the coast and my yard has the worst dirt I've ever encountered! I don't know what it's built on, but it's like swamp mud. It's black and doesn't drain well at all. Also, the water table is very high. I need some advice as to what kind of trees will tolerate water. I know lots of drought resistant, but I'm stuck with ideas to get some trees and some shade. I know willows and river birch like water. I hope someone can suggest an evergreen that will tolerate water.

Thanks for your help!

Hello Barbara,

Ah, TREES. I wasn't sure what a 'rees' was until I read your post. LOL.
A typo in the subject line.

I wish I could help, but other than willow and birch as you mentioned, the
only other thing I can think of are cattails. ;-)

You might want to post over on the tree forum, those folks are quite
knowledgeable about things of that nature and someone may be able
to help.

Oh, Barbara, I would love to have rees in my yard, but
I just can't seem to find them in the catalogs.

LOL. Were you able to find any that work well for you?

I think it's down to a weeping willow and maybe a red maple. Alot of folks don't like the weeping willow because of its leaf drop and small branch drop, but it'll work where I want to put it.

The cattails you recommended might do well as an accent.
