Mesa, AZ(Zone 9b)

Well, since no one's stepping up to this, I'll say........if the color in those pics is how the flowers really look.....you need to just slip them in a baggie and send them to me lol

Tolleson, AZ(Zone 9a)

I am with you Lynn.

(Zone 7a)

Linda, I'm curious how to germinate these, too. If you successfully germinate any seeds from this MG, could you put what you did in the PlantFiles?

I googled "Ipomoea carnea" + germination, and got 3 tidbits: nick, don't let stay wet too long and germinate at 20*C (= 68*F - from http://www.onlineconversion.com/ )

I don't know if you've seen Emma's germination technique, which is basically for Japanese MGs like I. nil and I. youjiro and some commonly grown MGs including I. purpurea. I really like the way she explains how to nick, so I'll give the link here:
http://davesgarden.com/forums/p.php?pid=3303432

Regarding not letting stay wet too long, I like what Phicks does - he puts sterile potting medium on the bottom, with 2" of Perlite on top. I'm thinking perhaps it might be a good idea to mix in a bit of gritty sand into that potting soil, as well.

Hopefully, someone with more experience will chime in, here. My track record in germinating some MG species has been frustrating.

Lakeland, FL(Zone 9b)

i grew mine from seeds when you plant the seeds plant theam on there sides standing up cover with 1/4 soil dont soak the seeds before paul

Northeast, LA(Zone 8a)

I don't know about the other colors but the purple will root from a cutting placed in water in a week.

Mesa, AZ(Zone 9b)

I never worry about technique with these seeds, they germinate so easy. 1/4" down like Paul said, I've soaked and not soaked, I would say the not soaked came out much better.

Riverland, do you know what would be best ..... green, semi woody, or woody stems for rooting?

Northeast, LA(Zone 8a)

Any of them will root. I rooted two green stems 2weeks ago in water and are now growing healthy in soil.. They root just like the brugs.

Lakeland, FL(Zone 9b)

Well may be My red Ones Grow Difrent then the rest

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

woo hoo. I have seeds for this puppy from a trade, but don't know what color it is. I will try it out next year.

About this color...can the type of fertilizer change the color of a plant ? Also I read somewhere else that I lady had one of these and she only got two seeds. Is this true for all of them ? I'm sure hoping for more than two seeds.

Mesa, AZ(Zone 9b)

I bet if you look at it now you find more pods forming now that it has started.

I don't know that fertilizer would effect the color.

Tolleson, AZ(Zone 9a)

I have one plant that is fertilized and another that is not and mine are both the same color and pretty much growing the same too..

Dothan, AL(Zone 8b)

Does anyone have a white one that they would like to trade ?
