Why are we so slow?

Sugar Land, TX(Zone 9a)

I've checked my computer and everything seems to be fine. No other problems with other websites. I can't even open most threads. Is there some kind of maintenance occurring?

Sugar Land, TX(Zone 9a)

I must be the only one experiencing problems. I can't open up threads, dmail, etc. Shutdown the pc three times now. the only thing I've been doing different is adding to my diary. I've done pc maintenance (cleaned temp files, etc.).

I'm not having any trouble. Are you using IE version 7? I know people in the past have had all sorts of trouble with that version, you might try using Firefox instead or go back to IE version 6.

Sugar Land, TX(Zone 9a)

Nope, I'm on Firefox.

It's been frustrating me for hours. I try and post pictures in my diary, half post, half I have to do over. And it takes a long time for each one. Perhaps I'm 'overloading' with my posts? Can't open threads or dmail but the one I posted here opened immediately. Weird.

I'm not sure, but I couldn't get on for awhile earlier this evening. I'm using Firefox also. Seems to be okay now though.

Voila! Seems okay now. Strange!

But thanks for your input! I really appreciate it.

Troubleshooting 101 - reboot the computer. (start -> shut down -> restart) Don't know if you tried this but it should be the first thing you do when the computer is running sluggish, even if it's just on one site. HTH.

I had problems last night also - and rebooting didn't do the trick at all. I finally gave up early and did something else. Very frustrating.

Well heck - so much for that idea. Sometimes it's just bandwidth. IOW, if lots of people are hitting the same thread or post or even the same website at the same time, there is not enough 'room' in the cable for all that travel and things slow down.

Sometimes it just remains A Mystery of the Universe.....;~}}

Mary, I am with you, though, that it usually works - don't know what the deal was last night. Knolan's in TX and I'm in WA (and we're both on Firefox) so it makes the mystery even more unusual!!!

Thanks guys. I did do all that, several times. I even performed pc maintenance and that didn't help. But, the problem cleared itself up eventually and everything is working fine now.

We had a pretty big spike of activity last night and this is clearly what slowed things down. It occurred for about 2 hours, from 9:00pm to 11:00pm Central time last night.

Thanks, Dave - I guess I'm can quit looking for those darn computer gremlins!

Sugar Land, TX(Zone 9a)

I had a pretty good feeling that might be the problem (and I contributed to it). Thanks for the explanation.
