Oh, she must be miserable. I'm planning on shaving Shadow myself this weekend.
Daily Musings - page 17
poor puppies . . . DH washes the cat . . . poor thing howls like crazym- you would swear DH was killing it. But Nicholai (the cat) LOVES DH, even tries to lick his beard (well, not during bathtime). I, on the other hand, never give the cat a bath - but Nick would still rather be with DH.
I am not a big fan of spiders and snakes but I don't go out of my way to kill them either. I have however changed my mind on one spider...the Spider Crab. I noticed it last summer and was facinated with it's ability to change colors, the crab like front pinches, ect. But this year I watched as it laid it's self in my rugosa rose bush and started changing to pink. When a bee flew in, it quickly attacked it on the neck despite 3 JP Beetles that were closer. I was mortified as I watched this bee struggle and then slowly go still. I need those bee's to pollenate my flowers and keep the cycle going!
It's a cruel world out there, Pixie........I hate to see the loss of one of our Bee Buddies!! ....But great shots!
Wow - great action shots, Celeste!
Those are some terific spider shots Pixie. The butterfly pics are easier to look at however :)
Saving it for Playbug, Al?
Is it hazy out of a sense of modesty??
You brought the red light district home!!
I took 6 photos of it and that's the BEST one! Or was it the vaseline on the lense(women won't get that joke)
Pixie - some sort of butterfly kama sutra there.
And some are named swallowtail. Hmm.
Boy - what a setup, do I get an assist?
Wow is this the mating time of year or something? What a flygirl, Andy!
LOL, I couldn't help it. My last shot is from last Summer.
For anyone who grows Garden Phlox and hates to see them fall over after heavy rain, Eat your heart out, lol.
When they get up to your knee (1st of May), cut them in half. They get bushier on stronger stems and don't fall over. This is one bunch after some tropical downpours.

Nice phlox! Will that pruning trick work for my echinacea?
I have only 'pruned' Mums and Phlox this way.
Michaela, how are those Butterfly bushes by the fountain? Did they make it?
Whoa....this is some risque thread!! I had to go get a glass of iced tea.....and yeah, Al, I got it! :)
Great tip on the phlox, Andy....very pretty pic too!
I have cut back Joe Pye Weed like that as well. Wanted to try Echinacea this year and forgot to.
As a general rule, you can't prune single stem plants like that.
Celeste, Your spider and bee pictures are outstanding, especially the third one where the J. beetles are right nearby doing their own thing.
BigAl, That's the prettiest picture of a fly that I've ever seen.
Andy, Beautiful phlox.
Loretta
Wow, I've heard the song "birds do it, bees do it, even educated fleas do it" but I never actually visualized it!!! Great shots, everybody, if a little prurient!
xxxx, Carrie

Boy, Celeste.....I guess you DO have some turkeys!! Are they Chinese turkeys from South China? lol
You know....I thought I heard one say "Moo Goo Gai Pan".
Ah nature isn't it wonderful. Great "instructive' shots everybody. Some very graphic stuff here. We get some wild turkey here too at the bird feeder. I had to move it once 'cause they scratch at the ground and can really chew up any plants nearby. They sure can run fast though when they are on the move.
Pixie - will those turkeys be featured on your Thanksgiving table this year?

Almost every kind of local wildlife has been out at that feeder at one time or another. Skunks, fox, ducks, squirrels, chipmunks, raccoons, deer and the strangest thing I have seen out there is a Fisher. Weird giant weasel. Very vicious claws that he uses to climb up trees and descend head first after savaging a squirrels nest, empty at the time, lucky squirrel. Here is a family picnic I got a snap of last year.
Oh my goodness - look at all those guys! I don't think I have ever seen so many of them together...usually they just wander around all alone here. Great photo!
ngam, aren't those fisher's nasty sounding too! Really fierce creatures that you don't get to see very often....i'm not complaining!
