Woke up with a headache - likely to turn into a migraine. Beautiful weather today, but this usually indicates some unstable weather is about to approach - so enjoy the day while you can. :-)
Does anyone else have body quirks that "predict" the weather? Is this an advantage? Or just a pain?
meanwhile - how do you cope? (I am drinking lots of coffee and taking pain killers.)
Body as weather barometer
True migraines are awful - I sympathize.
Well, I don't get them as bad as some . . . and coffee does help.
If the worst I suffer is the occasional migraine, I will have had a really terrific life :-)
I heard gardening causes them.
I heard children cause them. I never had migraines before I turned 30.
Teen-agers cause migraines! I know this for a fact!!
And, as far as other weather-related physical warnings go, when I get a sharp pain in my right hip joint - look out! I'm 'lucky' enough to experience this three days out from a major weather front, so there's plenty of time to prepare for the worst!
Anyone else get joint pain - that's not arthritis?
When my head starts to feel wet, it's usually raining.
Whenever aches my bone or joint
The weather's bound to disappoint.

Certain questions that I ask my wife seem to bring on rather quick headaches for her.
For myself, since I had open heart surgery my breastbone seems to predict the onset of wet weather.
The formerly dislocated left knee is a pretty good weather predictor. And I do agree - teenagers cause major headaches!
That's great, Don!
Dogwalker that is just too funny!
barometric pressure gives me headaches also.... usually a few hours before a good rain
Allison
I get cold just before it snows :)

Whenever my neighbors knees hurt more than normal, it's going to rain.
I have many aches - back, knees, an occasional shoulder or elbow (I'm a mess!) and I can honestly say that there is no correlation of the pain to the weather whatsoever.
we call my disabled son barometer boy he is such a good predictor of inclement weather I bought a barometer just so I could convince myself that I wasn't imagining it, this was happening ( when approaching Dr.'s witha theory ya gatta have data ) : ) . he gets very stuffy in the head and his lungs fill up! I get a head ache and my bones creek
laura
my right knee always lets me know when rain is coming... I am a believer!!!
My right knee always lets me know my left knee is following.
Deeper sigh than normal.
My boss was in a huge boating accident in his younger days. He was in a coma for some time after that...he also had stitches, broken bones etc.... Anyhow since his accident he can always tell when it is going to rain because he gets a migraines so bad....he tends to give us the heads up now when we are in for a big rain storm. The worse the headache the worse the storm will be.
So when one of these weather predictors is not in the mood he or she tells the spouse that it feels like rain??
Perhaps but usually that means she has a headache Victor. LOL
Victor, What is the sense of having all those aches & pains that are of no meteorological value? When my shoulder aches, the DOW Jones is about to go up.
Laura, that is amazing!
Tell me about it! Guess your shoulder never felt better this past week. When you feel you can shoulder press 500 pounds, please let me know - time to get back in the market!
Yeah, Dave47 - some real "insider" information would be useful to humble gardeners who need to acquire some wealth to support their garden obsessions :-)
I have something in my body that hurts all the time - good thing I'm not predicting bad weather!! On this very day several years ago (Cooperstown Induction Ceremony) I had been awake since 1:00 am with severe carpal tunnel pain and DH was getting ready at 6:00 to take off to go with the guys to the ceremony. I was crying "I can't stand the pain anymore, take me to the ER". DH wasn't very happy and let me know it and I felt even more sorry for myself and layed my head on the kitchen table with my arm hanging down - in that position it stopped hurting!! I told him to just go, I'll spend the rest of my life like this. I'll get to the point, my arm and hand hurt but the weather was beautiful!! He had a good day and I had one of many bad days. Eleanor
p.s. Had surgery a couple of weeks later and the hand is fine!
Once the hand healed you should have whacked DH with it!!
LOL
My problem is the opposite of Eleanor's. Maybe Victor can relate to it. My DH is in constant pain - back, knees, etc. But he is a work-acoholic. Since he can't work in the US, he slaves over fixing up Our Old House. The work he does is fabulous - and ingeniously creative, since we don't have most of the tools required to do a "real job."
Anyway, the silly bugger (can you say "bugger' on DG?) will not seek medical advice. . . Once, in Kamloops, his back was soooo bad he was lying on the bathroom floor in his briefs, unable to move. We finally called an ambulance (he was sooooo mortified) . . . he dragged himself into the living room where we had spread his dressing gown on the floor. He managed to get that on. He was carried out on a stretcher . . . he had a collapsed disc in his back.
What do you do with a sweet guy who would rather face raging grizzlies than a physician?
Love him.
I relate to the constant pain part, but not the treatment phobia part. I'll try anything to feel pain-free again.
Yeah, Dave let us know when that shoulder starts aching. I totally don't understand the adversion to finding a cure for what ails ya.
My hip hurts something awful when it's going to rain thanks to a motorcycle accident. My sinuses get stuffy when there's a weather pattern change.
Well, poor DH - they took him to the hospital and he was put in the nurological (sp? pirl?) ward. It was a semi-private room, and the fellow next to him was an extremely old "screamer." The poor old guy was in the final stages of altzeimer's and spent most of his waking hours basically screaming. The doctors tried to give him medication to calm him down - but there is only so much drugs you can give before you shut them down permanently. That experience put DH completely off hospitals.
DH was in the hospital for a week. The nurologist recommended complete rest - and no surgery unless he lost feeling in his legs. According to the nurologist, back surgery might solve many problems, and prevent paralysis, etc., but would not necessarily prevent or reduce pain.
and I do love him very much, Pirl. Just 20 days until the big 3-0.
Neurologist.
Alzheimer's.
That must have been a terrible experience for him. Most hospitals will give the Alzheimer's patients a separate room to prevent such disturbances. It's a horrid way to leave this world.
Back surgery is often exactly as the doctor said - not necessarily preventing or reducing pain.
First I thought you meant in 20 days he'll be 30 years old but now I realize it will be your 30th wedding anniversary. Congratulations in advance.
Yeah - like 30 year-old guys are interested in old bags like me hahahahaha.
Or like you'd marry a newborn!
Exactly! Just what I wanted to do at 22 - marry a newborn. Yikes! New husbands are bad enough - but having to change diapers - you know, it's gotta affect the mood. . . .
Wait 25 years...
What for? I don't think I have 25 years to wait for anything!!
