It's beginning to look a lot like the Tropics!

Chrissy, don't feel bad. Mine was right at the front door, and I missed it's flowering. It was already the start of the pineapple fruit when I noticed it.
I had been sick for most of the cold winter mos, and didn't go out much in Feb, March a little, so I totally missed it. I'll pay more attention to the others I have next year! It's really grown. Should be ripe in late Aug or Sept. The grandkids are really looking forward to it.

Islandshari.....did you plant the crown off of that pineapple the other day?
I don't blame you, I wouldn't leave either. What's the price of property around there?

Don! So glad you saw the question! Sorry if it seems we've stolen your thread! But your beautiful tropical garden just got us all off on different tangents. Very nice, looks like you are about to have blooms there. Its funny, in this shot - with your neighbors' very typical suburban yards showing, your incredible tropicals are even more incredible! Keep up the great work!

Sorry Shari I am afraid it is a bad habit of mine I hear songs in my head for almost every occasion..........When I see your name I hear a theme from an old show on Telly- it was called Adventures in Paradise.....with that hunky Adam who would sail from Island to Island solving peoples problems....do you know what I am talking about?.....the music spoke of tropical paradise just lovely.

I always have music playing....other people may turn on the telly in the morning, but for me, its the stereo button. Right now I am listening to David Arkenstones "In the Wake of the Wind"...just love it!

Islandshari....OMG I did not realize how small Kwajalein is! It's unbelieveable. I found some fantastic pictures online. No wonder you would never want to leave.
Do you go to the other islands? I didn't reallize that it is all base! Oahu seems HUGE comparitively speaking! WOW.

Well we call it Almost Paradise. Where did you see the pictures? My hubby has a ton on Webshots. If you are interested let me know and I can direct you. Lots of DGers have seen his stuff. That's actually funny, because just before I checked my DG homepage, I was working on a story about Kwaj, trying to explain just how small it is. Then I open this up and its like you were reading my story!

What can I say, great minds think alike! I googled Kwajalein Marshall Islands and came up with quite a few and found this fabulous site with loads of pictures. I have it marked in my favorites. I'll have to find it again.

I'm sure our city is bigger than your island! The internet said 3 1/2 miles long X 1 mile wide.....is that correct? Did I miss read that.....maybe 30 miles long.......???

No, its actually 3 1/2 miles long and 1/2 mile wide! They made us bigger than we are! Yep, most cities are bigger than us. If you go to webshots, click on community and then search for islanddood. That's my hubby. He has his pics separated into albums, so you can pretty much pick what you want to look at. Just be sure and say howdy in his guest book....he pouts when people don't say hi.

My uncle gave up his rights as chief of Guam and joined the army to fight in Korea,well that the story I got,so I guess half the people there are my kinfolk!!!!LOL
Never been there but would love to visit,I have a nephew who lives there and works for the airlines as a flight attendance,met a couple years ago at a family reunion.

Don....just follow the links up above, and you will see more pics than you can dream of! Guam is not too far, about 3 hours by plane. It is part of our "in/out" flight pattern....going to the states we go through Hawaii on a plane that came from Guam...going to Australia we go through Guam. It is much more commercial than I like, but I met a Chammoro here that said the other end - away from the hotels is better, so I'm going to try that next time I'm there. You should definately visit it if you have ties like that!

I have a giant stand of the giant bird of paradise......the one with the navy and white blooms...heads about 18 " it is getting ready to flower right about now.Yes I have it's smaller cousin growing near it ...and they do take about 3/4 years to flower.....but it is worth it!

I have a bird of paradise I bought last year that I have no idea how old it is. Then I have the babies that I just planted....so maybe the big one will bloom by the time the babies do!

I have hibiscus that bloom but really need some other things that flower besides all of the foliage we have. Here is a picture of it below......

We have several plumerias, but only three of them have bloomed. I have a fuscia one that is about to bloom...kind of similar to Tropicman's. I'd like to have a red one!!!!!!!

My granddaughter's name is Mariah, so she was so happy that y'all were singing about her name!! LOL.

I have had several plumies in the best years,but my favorite ones I had palnted in the ground,in 2004,then it happened,I had a heart attack,Halloween weekend ,the weather had been real warm for October,I was going to dig them up and give several cuttings away for they were over ft tall and 6ft wide,but now I was able to,after a 5 by-pass surgery,so I called the zoo,to come get all my plants,2 semi truckloads,and to put them in the jungle exhibit.
This included my large plants,bananas,palms brugmansias,several huge houseplants as well.I had a white one with a yellow eye,with a touch of pink in the edges that had a coconut fragrance,this red one has a fruity fragrance to me.
I have about 7 others that have yet to bloom,since I started most of them from seed.

Ok now,not sure if I'm actually correct on this,but put your thinking caps on,was 77 sunset strip,a spin off of Hawaiian Eye?????

Not sure about the video of the series,but would to see it again on reruns!!!

Hawaiian eye was a spin off of 77 Sunset Strip. 77 was first (according to google). It's been so long ago I had to look it up!

The peach is one of my favorites also. I have some other's but the freezes really bit them back. They've come out of it but haven't bloomed yet. Two died, but I don't know which two as I didn't have them marked. I didn't take them in but will next year!

I have the double red and peach,and now the white or ivory cream as they call it.

Don (Howard:) )......now I know why I saw you in that scene from carousel....walking along the beach sing "walk on ...through the wind ...walk on through the rain"....It seems that you really had to walk on through some very hard times....a heart can be hurt in more ways than just physical...it must have come nigh on to broken- having all of those wonderful and much loved trees and plants taken away as well as almost losing your life. I hope you are loving every minute of your life now and we can see you have a paradise once again .......you are some kind of someone.
