Chrissy, don't feel bad. Mine was right at the front door, and I missed it's flowering. It was already the start of the pineapple fruit when I noticed it.
I had been sick for most of the cold winter mos, and didn't go out much in Feb, March a little, so I totally missed it. I'll pay more attention to the others I have next year! It's really grown. Should be ripe in late Aug or Sept. The grandkids are really looking forward to it.
Islandshari.....did you plant the crown off of that pineapple the other day?
I don't blame you, I wouldn't leave either. What's the price of property around there?
Here's a pix of the pineapple now.....
It's beginning to look a lot like the Tropics!
I haven't planted it yet...still dryin, but I will be! No price, can't buy!
Don! So glad you saw the question! Sorry if it seems we've stolen your thread! But your beautiful tropical garden just got us all off on different tangents. Very nice, looks like you are about to have blooms there. Its funny, in this shot - with your neighbors' very typical suburban yards showing, your incredible tropicals are even more incredible! Keep up the great work!
Oh dear.....she's gonna start singin again....here we go!
Sorry Shari I am afraid it is a bad habit of mine I hear songs in my head for almost every occasion..........When I see your name I hear a theme from an old show on Telly- it was called Adventures in Paradise.....with that hunky Adam who would sail from Island to Island solving peoples problems....do you know what I am talking about?.....the music spoke of tropical paradise just lovely.
No, I've never heard of it, but you've sure got me curious! No need to apologize ya know....I love the sound of your dulcet tones winging over my computer. My "oh dear" was in reference to how your songs always get us going on some other topic.....as in The Journey Continues.....
I always have music playing....other people may turn on the telly in the morning, but for me, its the stereo button. Right now I am listening to David Arkenstones "In the Wake of the Wind"...just love it!
Chrissy, Glen Campbell did sing Wichita Lineman and it does reference Kansas. You were right on the money. That's a good song too.
Islandshari....OMG I did not realize how small Kwajalein is! It's unbelieveable. I found some fantastic pictures online. No wonder you would never want to leave.
Do you go to the other islands? I didn't reallize that it is all base! Oahu seems HUGE comparitively speaking! WOW.
It truly is a paradise!
Well we call it Almost Paradise. Where did you see the pictures? My hubby has a ton on Webshots. If you are interested let me know and I can direct you. Lots of DGers have seen his stuff. That's actually funny, because just before I checked my DG homepage, I was working on a story about Kwaj, trying to explain just how small it is. Then I open this up and its like you were reading my story!
What can I say, great minds think alike! I googled Kwajalein Marshall Islands and came up with quite a few and found this fabulous site with loads of pictures. I have it marked in my favorites. I'll have to find it again.
I'm sure our city is bigger than your island! The internet said 3 1/2 miles long X 1 mile wide.....is that correct? Did I miss read that.....maybe 30 miles long.......???
WOW.
No, its actually 3 1/2 miles long and 1/2 mile wide! They made us bigger than we are! Yep, most cities are bigger than us. If you go to webshots, click on community and then search for islanddood. That's my hubby. He has his pics separated into albums, so you can pretty much pick what you want to look at. Just be sure and say howdy in his guest book....he pouts when people don't say hi.
OK sure will. Appreciate it. Thanks. I sent you a D-mail.
Your welcome, they already bloomed back in May,the rain forest has grown up around all that now you can barely see the yuccas,
Chrissy what a great memory you have,my favorite show,Captain Adam on his sailboat Tiki
sailing from hong kong to hawaii stopping at all the small islands, and all the babes he met and helped get out of trouble,Gardner McKay! what a man!!!
My uncle gave up his rights as chief of Guam and joined the army to fight in Korea, well that the story I got,so I guess half the people there are my kinfolk!!!!LOL
Never been there but would love to visit,I have a nephew who lives there and works for the airlines as a flight attendance, met a couple years ago at a family reunion.
Are you any where close to there Shari, and would love to see some pics of the island you live on.
Don
Don....just follow the links up above, and you will see more pics than you can dream of! Guam is not too far, about 3 hours by plane. It is part of our "in/out" flight pattern....going to the states we go through Hawaii on a plane that came from Guam...going to Australia we go through Guam. It is much more commercial than I like, but I met a Chammoro here that said the other end - away from the hotels is better, so I'm going to try that next time I'm there. You should definately visit it if you have ties like that!
Don't see any links above .I hope to some day.
Sooooo sorry! Thought they were there! Here's one:

Shari ...now I know why I hear that lush tropical theme when I look at your name
Wow you really do have that paradise!!!:)
Texasgal77....77 sunset strip- Click click....*giggling*... I have a giant stand of the giant bird of paradise......the one with the navy and white blooms...heads about 18 " it is getting ready to flower right about now.Yes I have it's smaller cousin growing near it ...and they do take about 3/4 years to flower.....but it is worth it!
Tropicman I am a little confused when I look at your name......hearing...Mariah...Mariah!....then it changes to" I can hear you through the wires "....then it Morphs into Adventures in Paradise ....I think you are a very complex character.........oh how I miss my lovely frangipanni....how many do you have? Does that one smell of coconut? Roll on Summer I say...until we cop the
115 f.....then I hide....tell me what goes on in your Winters.....how cold does it get and what do you have to do to protect your beautiful garden?
Shari have a look at Adventures In Paradise ...on the web.....I was delighted to find it on google ....Don they have the series on video!
oh and pepper I hear the theme from Policewoman when I see your name:) do you know that one? the star was Pepper in the show....sorry ...I am a sad and sorry case are'nt I .....this soundtrack thing runs runs in my family ...we often sing at each other instead of talking.........now back to the gardens
Chrissy you are a musical wonder! Always so much fun wondering what you are going to come up with next!
Chrissy you are so crazy! 77 Sunset strip.....now you have me doing it! LOL
I have a bird of paradise I bought last year that I have no idea how old it is. Then I have the babies that I just planted....so maybe the big one will bloom by the time the babies do!
I have hibiscus that bloom but really need some other things that flower besides all of the foliage we have. Here is a picture of it below......
We have several plumerias, but only three of them have bloomed. I have a fuscia one that is about to bloom...kind of similar to Tropicman's. I'd like to have a red one!!!!!!!
My granddaughter's name is Mariah, so she was so happy that y'all were singing about her name!! LOL.
77 Sunset strip....."snap snap" see Chrissy....... Craaaaa-zy Chrissy!!!!!!!!!
LOL!!
Have any of you seen Cry-Baby? Watching that weird, crazy movie now. Makes me think of this thread. LOL
That's the one JD movie that I never did care for..
Chrissy,
I have had several plumies in the best years, but my favorite ones I had palnted in the ground,in 2004,then it happened,I had a heart attack,Halloween weekend ,the weather had been real warm for October,I was going to dig them up and give several cuttings away for they were over ft tall and 6ft wide, but now I was able to,after a 5 by-pass surgery,so I called the zoo,to come get all my plants,2 semi truckloads, and to put them in the jungle exhibit.
This included my large plants, bananas, palms brugmansias, several huge houseplants as well.I had a white one with a yellow eye, with a touch of pink in the edges that had a coconut fragrance, this red one has a fruity fragrance to me.
I have about 7 others that have yet to bloom, since I started most of them from seed.
Ok now,not sure if I'm actually correct on this, but put your thinking caps on,was 77 sunset strip,a spin off of Hawaiian Eye?????
Not sure about the video of the series, but would to see it again on reruns!!!
Texas gal,the double peach is one of my favorite hibiscuses.
Pepper wasas Angie Dickerson!!!!!
Hawaiian eye was a spin off of 77 Sunset Strip. 77 was first (according to google). It's been so long ago I had to look it up!
The peach is one of my favorites also. I have some other's but the freezes really bit them back. They've come out of it but haven't bloomed yet. Two died, but I don't know which two as I didn't have them marked. I didn't take them in but will next year!
I have the double red and peach, and now the white or ivory cream as they call it.
Doug Mc Clure and Connie stevens ,maybe Bob Conrad where in the series,I think!!!
Okay you two....anyone remember "Cookie, Cookie, lend me your comb!" from Route 66? I don't, but my DH uses that line all the time! Me...I was madly in love with Maverick and Paladin!

Almost fell off my chair when I dug up these lyrics ............
From 77 Sunset Strip.
Remembering the intro with Ed Byrnes combing his hair , a ducktail if I remember correctly. I think they tried to make that hairstyle against the rules when I was in Jr High in Miami Springs , FL.
KOOKIE, KOOKIE (LEND ME YOUR COMB)
Edward Byrnes & Connie Stevens
CONNIE: Kookie, Kookie, lend me your comb. Kookie, Kookie?
EDWARD: Well now, let's take it from the top & grab some wheels
& on the way we'll talk about some cuckoo deals.
C: But Kookie, Kookie, lend me your comb. Kookie, Kookie?
E: Now you're on the way, miss, & I'm readin' you just fine.
Don't cut out of here till we get on Cloud 9.
C: But Kookie?
E: I've got smog in my noggin ever since you made the scene
C: You're the utmost!
E: If you ever tool me out...dead, I'm the saddest, like a brain
C: The very utmost. Kookie, lend me your comb. Kookie, Kookie?
E: Man, I got my bruise lighters in my flapsy-colored pen
You're gonna send me to that planet called...you know it, baby, the end!
(sax solo)
C: Kookie, Kookie, lend me your comb. Kookie, Kookie?
E: If you ever cut out, you might be a stray cat
'Cause when I'm flyin' solo, nowhere's we're on that!
C: Kookie, Kookie, lend me your comb. Kookie, Kookie?
E: What's with this comb caper, baby? Why do you wanna latch up with my comb?
C: I just want you to stop combing your hair...& kiss me. You're the maximum utmost.
E: Well, I beans & I dreams goin', I'm movin' right now
'Cause that's the kind of scene that I dig...baby, you're the ginchiest!
roflol .... ginchiest ??

Sorry shari,
As usual , I took too long to send my post and did not intend to post on top of you.
☺
No problema scooter! Thanks for the lyrics! Now, I wonder if that had any influence on the name of the "Stray Cats"? Hmmmm.....
Here we go....off on another tangent!
Well now ......I can see I have started some sort of riot here......sorry folks ....will they throw me out of here?
Don (Howard:) )......now I know why I saw you in that scene from carousel....walking along the beach sing "walk on ...through the wind ...walk on through the rain"....It seems that you really had to walk on through some very hard times....a heart can be hurt in more ways than just physical...it must have come nigh on to broken- having all of those wonderful and much loved trees and plants taken away as well as almost losing your life. I hope you are loving every minute of your life now and we can see you have a paradise once again .......you are some kind of someone.
Now who mentioned a movie called Cry Baby...........no I haven't seen it ......I am scared to ask about it though........yikes!
Yes I miss the Hibiscus too.....some lovely ones there!
Now scooterbug......why am I hearing -Yo Rinny!.....and the theme from Rin Tin Tin ?
I do have a blood red Plumeria...it was given to me and I have forgotten the full name but it was ...Something.... Blood. Oooooh here it comes again ......Theme from Ben Casey........back later ....I have given myself a headache! :)
Tropicman, so glad that you are doing so much better these days! I'm sure it was hard to lose all of those plants! Your garden sure looks fantastic now! You are quite the gardener! It really does look like a tropical paradise! Hard to believe that it's actually in Kansas, Toto!
Though your dreams be tossed and blown, walk on walk on! what a song!!!!!
I'm doing fine,if I could only get the diabetes, under control!!!
When I'm out in my garden,I honestly feel like I'm in heaven!!!
Hi Scooter!!You staying out of trouble!!!LOL
Hmm don't remember the theme to rin tin tin!!!!
But I do to Circus boy!!!!!
And I never never missed a episode of Tarzan!!!!
Had the biggest crush ever on Maureen O'Sullivan!!!!
This thread has turned into a combo of tropics, music, old tv shows.....we cross all the forums out here in the tropics! I just love it!
Anybody remember that show about a guy and his elephant? He was a teen I think....can't remember the name of it...but a part of me has always wanted my own elephant....thought that would be the absolute coolest!
TexasGal,Yes they here my babies!!!
But it was fun getting more plants!!!!!
One of these days I'm gonna make a trip to N,californy to go plant hopping with Kell, that
gal has the best luck of finding new plants,in fact I've heard her say they just jumped out at her!!!!LOL
Then I'm going to head south to see my girl friend Claire In Carmarillo ,she has taken care of me in my time of need when I need a plant fix!!!!
There is so many nice people here at Daves, your included, group hug!!!!
Don
