journal and plantfiles photos

Northeast, LA(Zone 8a)

When I am adding an entry to my journal is there any way to add a picture from plantfile instead of browsing my own photo? I have added a lot of new plants that I don't have a picture of yet. I would like to have a photo beside the entries like on the trade list.

Sorry--I would have responded sooner but the first time I read your post I read it quickly and thought you were asking Dave to add that feature, not asking whether it existed or not. Unfortunately there's no way to do that right now, Dave would have to add that as a new feature. Right now the best you can do is import a plant from Plant Files into your journal, that will create a link back to the PF entry from your journal entry, but the picture won't show up directly in your journal.

Thank you for responding. I thought I was just too dumb to figure it out.

If you click "Add this plant to your journal" when you're in plantfiles, there will be a link to it's plant files page (usually) when you click 'view' in your journal.
Or in your journal, click "Add" to add an entry to the plant, and there's a little 'browse' box just like adding a picture to a thread. But it would be a picture you have in your computer, not a PF pic...

I think what Riverland wanted was to have pictures from Plant Files automatically show up in the journal like they do in the trade lists for plants that you don't have your own picture of, but the journals don't do that. Even if you import from Plant Files like you and I both mentioned you could do, there's extra clicking involved to get to a picture that you can see, it won't show up right in your journal.

Ok, now I get it. That reminds me I should start adding a trade list, there's so much stuff on this site it's amazing.

You can save a PlantFile photo to a file on your computer but I would ask the "owner" first for authorization to include it in your Journal.

And if they do give you permission to use their pic in your journal, make sure you turn your copyright off before you upload it, that way it'll still show their copyright on the picture.

That would be a good idea. The thing is I do have some plant file pictures in my journal and do not know how I got them there.

You would have had to save them on your hard drive and then uploaded them, no other way they could have got there! You do need to be careful though because of the copyright thing, most people probably won't mind if you use their pictures in your journal, but you do need to ask them first whether it's OK or not, and if they do say it's OK, make sure you turn your copyright off before you upload so that their copyright info will still show.
