Sooooooo SLOOOWWW

Rankin, IL(Zone 5a)

Dave,
I know you said yesterday the changes you have made shouldn't slow anybody down, But I'm here to tell you on dial-up it takes forever for a page to load, even a short page.. let alone a long-winded one.

It is not my computer as any other website I go to is working fine as usual... only Daves

Any suggestions on what I might be able to do.. (dsl/cable not an option in the boonies)

Citra, FL(Zone 9a)

I haven't been able to connect to DG since this morning until this second, as a matter of fact.

Rankin, IL(Zone 5a)

Thank you Dawn, I am thinking I am insane here. I load a page and it really takes over a minute before I can click skip to new, or even scroll the page

(Zone 7a)

I had to dump a couple posts I wrote - me too. Seems better now.

Deep East Texas, TX(Zone 8a)

Yup ~ way slow here too. Vintage pc and antiquated phone service but DG used to be quicker. Sometimes when I try to scroll down a page, it will seem like it locks up. Then, catches up and shoots too far down. Aggravating to say the least... pod

Rankin, IL(Zone 5a)

Yes Pod, thats exactly what I'm talking about, it's been doing it since yesterday.

Dave you need a test computer that is on dial-up so you can test for us too, if dial-up has anything to do with it, but that seems to be everybodies explaination.

Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)

I have dial up, and did experience some minor problems yesterday, but seems to be operating fine now. I love the boonies, as far as privacy, but it is the pitts for newer technology.

Gladwin, MI(Zone 5a)

I am having the same problems here. I get blank white screens for a while, lock-up etc. Even the short threads take a while.
Dial up, old system, old user...hee
It does seem better today. Or am I just getting used to it?

Deep East Texas, TX(Zone 8a)

hard to teach us "old dogs new tricks"

I've been having problems with a brand new computer and high speed internet, lol. It does seem better today!

Gladwin, MI(Zone 5a)

Yup, new stuff, new problems. I will take the old tried and true frustrations any day.

I'm going to do an experiment here; I've disabled the two new forums features that I had put in, and I would like ya'll to let me know if the site goes back to the normal speed. If it does, we'll know that the new features were the culprit.

very zippy now !

Dea, was it slow for you over the past couple days, though?

Gladwin, MI(Zone 5a)

Oh yeah, I see a difference.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6a)

only very slightly when I clicked directly on a photo rather than the Post #. But I'm not the best judge as I'm on a T-1

Dave -

Back to normal fast loading of pages, after the last few days of extremely slow loading with the new features. We're on satellite which can create it's own minor delays at times, but is generally speedy to find, connect & load DG.

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

In the past couple of days the whole site was slow and it took a good 60 seconds to view the new feature thumbnail. Even clicking on the post number was still slower than usual.
Everything is zipping right along now and much faster.

Starkville, MS

Much better for me, too. Thanks Dave for strugglong so hard to make all of this work for us!
ginni

I think I know why it was so slow for everyone to load now, thank you all for your feedback. It's difficult to give negative feedback but I appreciate the constructive help.

I'll be re-working this feature this coming week and will re-instate the feature, along with a preference option to turn off the fancy features.

That sounds great Dave. I didn't really mean to put any kind of negative take on the new stuff, but it just seemed to be a bit (actually more than a bit) slower - You are such a super Angel I guess we all have gotten accustomed to you being able to do *everything* for *everyone*. Sorry we put such a load on you, but thanks for hanging in there with us.

I'm still glued here and looking forward to the new fun things you create.
ginni

tgif: no no no, I'm glad when I get feedback, no matter where it's good or bad. :-)

Feedback is the only way to know which way to go, oftentimes. Not always possible to get all the answers out of one's own head. Team effort, and all.
I was off for a day, but seems good now. :-)
Thanks. :-)

back to normal at pods garden.... thanx

Rankin, IL(Zone 5a)

guess since I opened this discussion I should add my 2 additional cents worth. Yesterday and today is back to the old speed, just click a thread and I can click "skip to new" as soon as the thread opens. No waiting.

Does this mean you narrowed it down?
And, I liked the new features, so will you be able to tweek them where we can have the best of both worlds?

Not that I want it all.... well ok, I do want it all..
Dave could you come out to the boonies and either lay some fiber optics.. or beam me some realiable high speed?

Fran

Yes and for a reasonable price too... : ))
