Last one, This beauty is just covering everything in my window box but has only produced a few flowers so far. It's pretty high up so I don't have the best pics of it. I guess I'll have to be getting out the ladder to tae pics and collect seeds.

Oh Holly! I love that last one! Does it also have the variegated leaves????

*drooling all over the keyboard...*

Yep, Here is an earlier shot, It's planted in one of my window boxes. You can get a good loo at the foliage here.

Does anyone else have a 2" blank area to the left of the poster's names?

What this does, is move the whole text area over to the right so you have to scroll. I have noticed some of the same kind of problems in other Posts--where you have to scroll to read it all.

Is there any way we can move "the line" over so it fits the screen better?

Just wandering--or is it just me?

Gita

Just noticed---WHAT is all the "Communities" listings tot he left of the Posts? That is what seems to be moving the post-square over. Hey! IUs dave messing with something again?

Here is some discussion on that. You need to move the new navigation box to the right. These changes mae it hard for us computer challenged. http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/759612/

I found "preferences and moved the box to thr right. While at it, I selected 12 point font. I was getting something tiny. The bar at top has changed- hmmm, change...
This spiderwort went over well at spring Swap. Mine died down over the last month but has started putting out some new foliage.
More purple in real life : ^)

Don't mind- glad to be reminded what I'm waiting for. I don't know what kind.
I love coming back from a trip and seeing all the changes in the garden in a summer week or two. Except the tomatos all getting ripe while gone.....LOL

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Oh, 'Crystal Fountain' is just as pretty as in the catalog photos! I've got a little one planted in the bed along the neighbor's fence... looking forward to blooms... maybe next year? :-)

Mount Laurel, NJ(Zone 7a)

...is the maypop passion vine invasive? I just planted a few sprigs from my neighbors garden on a post trellis, and I'm hoping it dosn't become uncontrollable like I have read. it is hard to tell at my neighbors house because she has a really large trellis for it to go crazy on. Mine is just on a post.

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

Sally,

Welcome back from your vacation!

I also got a cutting of that Passi, but it had NO roots at all and died. I remember her telling me that "this is the one that makes the fruit".

I bet you had piles and piles of tomatoes to deal with. Whacha gonna do with them all--or have already done?

See you soon!

Gita

Here's a picture of my Yellow Datura. They have done well.

How is yours doing? Should have lots and lots of seed pods on it by now. They look like little hand grenades to me....:o) To keep them from cracking open and losing all the seeds, and also from Earwigs and other bugs getting in there and eating all the seeds, put a piece of nylon stocking around each pod and tie it shut behind the pod until it turns brown and dry and is ripe enough to remove.

Thumbnail by Gitagal
Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

Hi Gita!
I should be able to replace that Passi cutting for you, if not this fall,(guess that wouldn't be wise) then in the spring. I'm ashamed to confess to the itmes that I couldn't give enough TLC after swap and lost.......... Seems like we had good rain till that week then nothing....Even now, just getting quarter inches at a time if any.....

Yes tomatoes started coming in during our trip. Got some good ones to share, few BLT's, a batch of salsa, and the romas I scald, peel and cut and freeze.

I'm too ashamed to post a pic of my Datura or even take a pic. They got spider mites.
): ^(
Sprayed Sevin liquid and liquid food, compost around, mulch, water,,,,,some new growth but very sad. My front flower beds are in need of soil renewal, I haven't amended enough.

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

Sally,

Since the Datura is related tot he Brugs, you may have had Cyclamen Mites on it. Of course, Spider Mites can defoliate a plant also.

One of my Brugs got mites (?) on it and all the leaves turned funny and fell off. ALL new growth fell off. I only had Ortho Bug Be Gone, but sprayed a few times with that. I think it helped a little bit, but not much. For mites you need Neem. I have priced it and it is quite expensive!

My "Peaches and Cream" Brug right next to it never flinched. They actually touch each other. Go figure!
At this time, it is in full flush with at least 30 blooms on it. They are not as large as they should be, but still pretty. I am B-A-D at fertilizing things! This has always frustrated me.

I have had a lot of my red Cherry Tomatoes from the 2 plants I have. They are like a jungle! It's a-hunting I will go every day.......

Jill's "Cherokee Purple" has grown a lot of pretty big tomatoes on it. I have picked two. The one I picked today could have sat on the vine another couple of days, but the skin had developed a crack in it going all around the tomato. Never seen this with other tomatoes!!!
The Ch. Prpl. sure have a muted, purplish look to them. Am eating one today. Seems less acid than most tomatoes. Not bad.

I will have loads of seeds from the yellow Daturas. Don't sweat it! Also my purple ones.
Holly posted a beautiful picture of her first blooms a while ago. They looked better than mine. She probably takes better care of all her plants than I do. ....:o(

What are you making (food wise) for the swap? I will bring Jill's MMMMMeatballs. Been wanting to try and make them anyway.
She has been talking about "grazing" all day long. Sounds like she will have a lot more to eat than just appetizers......Another pig out!

Can't say i am overly interested in the Passi. No place to grow it!

Take care! Enjoy the cooler weather.

Gita, can I beg for some seeds of your yellow and purple Datura here?? Not sure what I might have to trade but I'm saving seeds of the Eucomis 'Oakhurst' for wind and think I might be able to get a few seeds from Lysimachia 'Beaujolais' if you're interested.

Debbie

Gita, LOL No I don't take better care of my plants. Around here it's survival of the fittest. LOL I dump them in the ground and sometimes I throw water at them. I will say that my Dats are looking just beautiful, no doing of mine. I don't seem to be getting any seed pods though, neither the double yellows or the white moon flower Dat are making seed pods, I was told to shae the plant a couple of times a day to help seed production but that hasn't produced any results yet. I may have to come begging seeds if I don't get some.

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

Debbie,

What are the names of the 2 plants you are mentioning in plain English?

I do not know ANY plants by their Horticultural names, unless that is the only name they go by. Which one is the one in your picture?

Holly,

You should have small seed pods forming.
One thing that I learned NOT to do is pull off the spent flowers by hand. Let them totally wilt and fall off on their own. If you pull them off too early, you might be pulling off the forming, baby seed pod.

My pods are getting many and big. I have to put some pieces of nylons around them. They will not be ripe until October or such.

Gita

Heres a seed pod on the double purple from 2005. They are pretty big!

Gita, sorry I didn't even know 'Beaujolais' had a common name! Burgundy Gooseneck Loosestrife http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/76691/ - don't confuse it with the regular Gooseneck Loosestrife though, it doesn't 'travel' like the white one. The other, Eucomis 'Oakhurst' is Pineapple Lily http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/78021/ is the one I posted on the Reds and Pinks thread http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/p.php?pid=3847042

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

Hi Gita-
sorry I'm kind of slow lately. My Daturas had one bloom each then lost all the big leaves -either my spray didn't work or I hit them too late. Little new leaves coming on at top. The rain must be good too.
I am bringing cut up vegs for dipping. Can be labor intensive in its own way but I feel like I'm getting off easy cuz prep doesn't count in cooking as the work part in my brain.
My tomatos experience is kind of disappointing this year. Slicers came and went during and after vacation and succumbed to drought. Grapes are being eaten alive by a climbing zucchini vine. Romas were ok but sort of orangey(Ooops, guess this should be in the orange thread) I did get several bags of them in freezer but I feel like they are not the best. Oh well.
You'll recognize this purple I have going now. ; ^)
Grandps Otts or a reasonable facsimile thereof. Should self sow for you

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

Sally,

All the MG I planted from the swap are growing. Some are outdoing themselves, but NO blooms yet!

I did notice 2 Gr. Ott blooms yesterday blooming amid my "Autumn Sunset" climbing rose. First ones!

Here's one of the MG I got at the Swap. it is gone up the 8' trellis where I have my "Multi Blue" Clematis. NO BLOOMS either!
What gives? Do they hate the heat by any chance?

Gita

Gita - mine are in full sun most of the day...however they do "want" water a tad more then most my other plants it seems. Have you used fertilizer on them? Some where I remember reading that food makes the vines grow more and bloom less...not sure if that's just with passi's or not - wish I knew which thread I read that in...ugh! Here's another of the passi's with a friend...LOL

Thumbnail by Chantell
Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

Beats me. My Grandpa is the only one I have experience with. The ones blooming for me now were self sown and a few inches tall by Swap. Maybe your swap seeds just need some more days to maturity. They look happy.
(I was just snorting and really LOL over some funny stuff in the' weird' thread in general discussion forum) I should not be up now- promised to go to park with ten yr old son and friends tomorrow.

Hey Chantell- that guy appears to have semi-closed eyelids, like he's digging in and loving that flower~~
