Heliotrope, mostly spent put still a little color.
How about some purples?
Holly,
Pinch off the old bloom cluster and there will be new side growths that will bloom again. Just like Verbenas.
Gita
Loving all these purples and thinking I need more in my garden! LOL
Chris, took a few more pictures of the Pineapple Lily (Eucomis) yesterday and will try to post them for PlantFiles, thanks I had no idea there was no picture. I took a close up of the flowers and as soon as they bloom will take another for PF. And lucky you with Black Knight Delphinium! I used to grow these in my garden in Maine and they were the highlight of my summer.
Gitagal, forgot to tell you I really like your "Purple pot" - Persian Shield is one of my favorite foliage plants. I managed to keep one alive over the winter and Rick planted it in one our beds out front but it's just not 'shining' in the ground like it did in the pot last summer. If I can keep it alive again, it's going back into a pot next summer!
Great photos on this thread! :-)
Rose, did you have a Streptocarpella plant, or did you actually manage to get blooms already from cuttings I brought to the spring swap? (sorry, not sure who those went home with, LOL)
I have to start with a photo of the 'Fat Spike' lavender "hedge" along the driveway... It's been blooming for nearly a month! I was so afraid I'd killed it by pruning it "on time" this year and then having to bundle it up for a week when we had that cold snap. It bloomed a little late, and/or I think the lilies bloomed a little early, so we've been enjoying the combination!
Larlienda, thanks for the photo of Trahlyta... I've got some seedlings from crosses with that DL, and now I'm even more excited about them!
I'm going to back up to some my favorite purple blooms... favorites, because they're the earliest! I just love crocus and other spring-flowering bulbs...
Crocus tomm. 'Ruby Giant'
By now you're probably getting the idea that purple is my favorite color....
I'll stop (for now) with a special iris that Nancy (nminmd) gave me last year. She sent me home with bags of rhizomes from some huge clumps of this iris when she decided she needed space for some other plants in her beds. I shared them with friends and family and planted a whole sweep of them across the back of my iris patch! It seems to take irises 2 or 3 years to settle in and bloom for me, so I was delighted when this one bloomed its first spring. Thanks, Nancy!
Critter... I have two big hanging baskets full of the Streptocarpella. I didn't take yours home from the swap, as I too, has cuttings from mine!
BTW though, the cuttings from all your episcia that you brought me are doing great. The 'Blue Nile' cutting has even bloomed for me already! I am waiting on two more of my own cuttings to root, and I am planning a large bowl with nine different varieties of episcia in it. Can't wait to get it potted up!
Karen
I do like that 'Concord Blue' strep... my hanging basket doesn't bloom nearly often enough (although I love the foliage just on its own), so I was prepared to be extremely impressed if those blooms were from recent cuttings! I'm glad your episcias from me are doing well... yours is too, and I need to get a photo of it for the "reds" thread!
I've got a tiny Sinningea pusilla plant that Keyring gave me... I love its delicate blooms!
Lovely photo of the blaoon flower, wind!
And I love the chipmunk!!! Too cute!
Karen
Thanks Critter, Love that pic, I want to grow pansies again to plant in the fall, but with traveling I might have to get my DIL to take them to her house and baby them for me till I get back home. My lavender is done blooming.
WInd very pretty, I like that Persian Shield, too. I've seen several pic of that this year and it always draws my attention, might have to get some, although house space is limited. Cute pic, I've got those little critters all over my yard but I don't think they sit still long enough to get a pic. LOL
The chippy is cute. This is our year for chipmunks I guess from all the bird feeders. They run around with their little chompers ready to burst!
I never bring in the persian shield; treat it as an annual...I guess I should but we have so many other plants I over winter inside. One of these yrs I'll try it :)
Here is a photo of ANISE HYSSOP. We usually have lots of it ~ this year I didn't see any so I had to ask a neighbor I gave some to last year if they had some extra to share back!! Hopefully the goldfinches leave us a few seeds this year!
I had some anise hyssop in a container (from a garden center that I hadn't gotten around to planting), and it only had one stem showing; then that stem was broken off by someone. Think it'll come back?

If it doesn't, I should have seeds for both 'Honey Bee Blue' and 'Honey Bee White' from my butterfly bed... easy to direct sow or wintersow!
