Mosquito Magnet - Does anyone have one?

Clinton, MO

Do any of you know anything about the Mosquito Magnet that you use with a propane tank?
Does it work?
Is it worth the money?

What have you found that does work for Mosquitoes. Some evenings we can't even sit out on the patio for the pesky things and they think my DH is candy!

I know there is the Citronella - but what else??

I have one but haven't used it for the past 3 years. While it does capture a lot of mosquitoes, it doesn't really get rid of them. Critics say it just lures your neighbors' batch to your property. Sometimes it didn't seem to light/ignite (you don't see any flames - just feel a little warmth) and following all the procedures seemed too much. I think you get about 50 foot of electrical cord so you are limited on how far away from an electrical outlet you can place it unless you use extension cords. Most experts say eliminate all standing water and use repellent which I try to observe. The one thing I've noticed is the front yard which has no shade trees and few shrubs is fairly mosquito free while the back yard with lots of trees has plenty.

Thanks hcmcdole,

It makes sense you would be luring mosquitoes from neighboring yards. We had looked at some of these different devices and not sprung for anything yet, then I happened to think of DG and thought I would surely get some input from there.

Thanks again!

Cheap solution that just keeps working for me. Citronella oil (same kind you use in torches) used in a garden sprayer set on 3 or 4 oz. per gallon and spray it on the grass and trees will keep the pests away for about a month as long as it doesn't rain a lot. The oil won't harm the grass or trees at all. No oily residue either.

Hey Thanks Snipe! That would certainly be worth a try!! Will head to Walmart in the next few days. Is that where you get yours??

YEP.
I by it by the gallon costs about 6 bucks.

Does anyone else have any comments on the Mosquito-Magnet? I'm considering it. . . . .
