What IS THIS??!!

Yotedog, I would think chickens would love them. Do you know anyone who has a pet turtle? They love 'em. Maybe a pet store would want them. Or, heck, just go fishin'!

Nightcrawlers being relocated.

Headline:

Worm travels 100 miles back to family

Mr/Ms Worm is resting comfortably today with family after a harrowing adventure of kidnap, cold temperatures, deadly hooks, and release in unknown soil far from home.

Mr/Ms Worm's reply to those "angling" for book and movie rights to the story;
"Please give me some time, the whole trip was quite a bit to digest".

Ah ha ha ha ha! I about bust a gut when I read your post but this almost made me wet my shorts, "the whole trip was quite a bit to digest".

Oddly enough, we just watched "The Incredible Journey" on tape last week.

Wanna make millions cpartschick? Find a way to make all nightcrawlers find their way back home to their continent!

Wish my brain could be used to make money. But instead out comes silly stuff like the post above. See what my poor hubby has to put up with?
Glad I could make you laugh. I usually only humor myself.

You not only humored me but you humored quite a few of my friends. All of them caught the bit about how "the whole trip was quite a bit to digest" almost instantaneously.

LOL. I caught that too!!

Simple pleasures for simple minds. I guess you, me, my girlfriends, and cpartschick are all easily entertained.

O yeah, big time!!! LOL

Gladwin, MI(Zone 5a)

Well really, the whole story was hard to digest. Instead of having a nice walk in the woods yesterday morning I was thinking about worms and composed the story. I did rather like the ending though, if I could say so myself. Had to share my thoughts with you folks.

cpartschick: very refreshing to see such empathy for the worms point of view!

thanks.

Ah ha ha ha ha, empathy for the worm's point of view!

Gladwin, MI(Zone 5a)

Gee, I never thought of it that way. I suppose you are right. I just thought it was too much exposure to Gary Larson's Far Side cartoons.

Oh goodness.... I never know what I will find in DG. I love this site!!! I enjoyed reading the entire thread! Thanks for the cheap entertainment. I once bought my best friend a cook book called "Cooking with Slugs". It was a very tongue in cheek sort of book. Paula collects cook books so it is always a challenge to find one she does not have.

Cooking with Slugs?! Eeeeeew!! Lemme guess-the "Slug" family was giving cooking lessons? What did they cook--humans? LOL

Whoa there KyWoods! Who you calling slugs? I know we sit on the computers a lot but are we really that bad ? ;)

Now here's a little cooking lesson from a computer slug for psychw2 on how to eat fried worms.

First prepare according to directions below:

FRIED WORMS
Beat one egg until frothy.
Stir in one cup (or more) of flour until you have a stiff dough.
Knead for 10 minutes.
Pinch off 1 inch balls of dough and roll (like clay) to make worm shape. Let dry 30 minutes before cooking.
Drop one at a time into boiling water. Boil for approximately 6 minutes.
Note: Worms can be dried overnight and stored like dried pasta.

ALSATIAN SMOTHERED WORM
Dredge the worm with seasoned flour.
Sauté in three tablespoons butter until browned.
Cover with sliced onions, pour over one cup thick sour cream, cover pot closely, and bake in a slow oven until tender.

Once prepared, pass out blindfolds to all family and guests. Hand out forks to each diner. Set a timer and let them all know that anyone finished with their entre before the timer goes off gets a treat- A very special treat, see below on how to prepare your worm shake-
http://www.friedwormsmovie.com/

Incidentally, these are real recipes. Gag me paleeeease. Either that or pass the blindfold so I don't see what I'm eating.

One of the reasons I became a vegetarian was because my boyfriend thought it was a good joke to serve me some friend chittlins, saying it was oysters. If it had been worms, I would have become a vegetarian sooner. Not that there are not a few Ive had to pick out of my lettuce now and then.

Highland Heights, KY(Zone 6a)

Icky poooo....where did those recipes come from?! Some third world country?

Ummm, those recipes are from right here in the good old US of A. I wouldn't exactly call them comfort foods but I suppose if you're starving you'd eat just about anything. A blindfold would certainly help.

Ohhhh Gloria, I like fried oysters. I also like oysters prepared other ways. I know you are a leaf eater but some vegetarians will eat oysters. Do you eat them? If so, I've got a good linguine recipe for you and the original Oysters Rockefeller recipe which does not have spinache in it. I suspect the recipes I have for oysters would be considerably more palatable than the fried worm recipes above but since I'll probably never try fried worms I guess I'll never know.

Anyone game to try one of those recipes and report back?

Greensboro, AL

E. Could we please discuss those recipes over in the Recipe Forum?
Every time I come here I have to scroll paste Yotedog's slimey yuky critter up there in the first post.

Oysters yes. Chittlin's no.

Yup, start a thread over there on oyster recipes and I'll add mine for you. I went to a garage sale recently and came home with a bunch of cooking gadgets that came with no directions so I've been over there posting for help trying to gather recipes to go with what I bought. I still can't believe I bought so much when I went to that garage sale but most of what I bought was only $1. There was some sort of a sugar wafer iron that was $3. I still haven't figured out what most of everything is but Morning Gayle did tell me that the thing I bought that looked like a branding iron was a rosette maker.

Shall we add the worm recipes over there too for all to enjoy? ;) Just kidding.

Highland Heights, KY(Zone 6a)

Nope, no more worms....however, it might be good for me to think about to help me lose weight! LOL

Come on over by me for a while. I'm going to be experimenting with my garage sale finds. I have no doubt that what I cook up here with my new toys might not be all that edible when I start learning about how to use everything. I find that I don't eat nearly as much if I don't like what's set in front of me. We can call it the Lauren diet. Lauren cooks, people lose weight. How's that for starters with help on losing weight. Kentucky isn't that far away from where I live!

Highland Heights, KY(Zone 6a)

LOL--I'll remember that next time I think about heading for Dari-Bar...
