You are all babies. I'm 56 going on 39, I was going to say 29. I passed that point, yesterday.
Gardening Magazines
I'm 102. Don't I look great for my age?
Dave - I still remember Sunday mornings when I'd watch Jon Nagy do his charcoal drawings!
I remember that!
Me too and I'm only 59!
He was so talented and I sat there so mesmerized.
Me too! Random lines then this awesome picture developed. Or so it seemed.
I guess I'm the baby here...38.
pirl you look awesome for your age and trust me age really has nothing to do with it cause pirl is so spunky you would think she was 19!!!
Victorgardener I am actually 33. Crazy eh? I got the gardening bug when I bought my first home about 5 years ago. Funny thing is I said I would never do "old people stuff" but now I am doing it myself and love it.. I have converted several people at work into being gardeners cause they loved my "little" gardens. They were so much older than I was and asking me for advice so that really made me feel good.
Hey I am by no means a gardener but I love " looking" and " appreciating" what I have accomplished in such little space. It is "my" space and I am proud of it!
Had I not found this board and the many wonderful people on it I am not sure that my gardens would be what they are today!!! So thank you!
Sorry flowerjen I am still younger LOL
"Old people stuff". Hurrmph! I'm taking my ex-lax and my hot water bottle and going to bed now! You youngin' have no respect for your elders.
Dawn, that's ok at least I'm 2nd youngest....aaahhhh....33.... seems like yesterday..lol
Yes, it does seem like yesterday (and probably always will).
I remember that drawing show too. Pretty cool stuff.
OK - like Victor, I got caught up in my thread watcher and missed this one. I like Garden Gate. It's the only one that I find truly informational. I noticed above someone mentioned P Allen Smith. I've caught his show once in a while and find it interesting. I've just subscribed to his newsletter and give it a shot. I can't stand a magazine that has too much advertising, so I'm kind of picky. I love watching the gardening shows on HGTV. I miss the diary style gardening shows. I used to love a show with some Amish looking guy - I can't remember the name of it. It was on public television...anyone remember? I know it was a popular one.
Victory Garden??
Yes, it was that bearded guy with overalls on Victory Garden.
Dawn - 33 is half a lifetime ago for me!
Anita, His name was Crocket. Can't think of his first name at the moment (stuck on Davey)
His flower gardening book was my first most influential book.
Sounds like every body likes either Garden Gate or Fine Gardening the most. Amazing how consistent it is. Victor, will we get a tally?
Wasn't it Roger Swain?
Roger is the "new" guy. I think the show was "Crocket's Victory Garden" but Swain is probably Anita's Amish looking guy
No I think it is Swain, Dave. He has the long beard. Crocket started the show.
Jim Crockett of PBS' Crockett's Victory Garden
Victor, cross posted. I agree, we are both right.
Roger has been out for a few years. The new show stinks.
What new show, Victor?
Victory Garden.
He tried to copy your name, Victorgardener!!!
A few people on DG have called me victorygardener.
Now if you were victorious against the deer that would be wonderful.
Certainly would!
Victor - have you thought of getting a pet wolf? I hear they "take care" of deer quite well.
Would love it. But 'were' would I get one??
Doesn't Andy go to concerts at Wolfs Trap? Maybe he could get you one while he was there. --deadpan look in eyes while typing--
Yes - that's him! Wow, he got old. I must have been watching re-runs! I've never read Fine Gardening. I guess I should go check it out.
Actually, he's one of the writers/editors of PPP now. I miss him sorely from the victory garden. the new people are so much fluff. sigh. With Roger, you could be sure he actually got his hands dirty! and Love those suspenders!!

I liked watching Victory Garden too. I think they switched any gardening shows on PBS with cooking shows, which I totally can't watch I always get too hungry. I don't have cable so I don't get to see really any type of gardening shows but it's probably good since HGTV would be on 24/7.
I had gotten a couple samples of Garden Gate and actually was considering subscribing, but if I bring one more catalog, mag or book into this house my hubby might throw me out.
I thought I had gotten it (Garden Gate) a long time ago. I should give it another look. But I must wait for a couple to expire. Four are way more than I can handle these days.
I do recommend Fine Gardening. Based on the name, I thought it was going to be too foofy for me but it's my favorite.
I enjoy Garden Gate - very informative and no advertising. They even have an online section the coordinates with the current month's edition. I guess I'll grab a copy of Fine Gardening to see.
GG, Fine Gardening and American Gardener are my faves.
LOL my husband gets about 10 or so magazines himself including sports illustrated, Smithsonian and Scientific American. He cannot say a single word about magazines and has never done so. this magazine count is an estimate, since I don't know for sure how many we actually get. We know there has been a problem at the post office if on any given day we get no magazines. This happens only about once or twice a year. I like Aviation Week and Space Technology because it often has great space pictures from the Hubble. My daughter and I critique the bathing suits in the Bathing Suit issue of SI for him. This is her duty as the Fashion Police.
We used to get TV guide but since cable went digital and has the guide on tv, we don't need it any more.
