Spell check for botanical names??????

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I don't know how difficult it would be to eventually have a botanical spell check on DG...........certainly would add a lot and we would learn a lot...........many times, i can't find what I want on plant files in search because I can't spell the botanical name and don't know the common name............how do other people feel about this???????

This won't help for writing plants' names in the forums, but for using plantfiles, make sure you have 'auto-complete' or form fill enabled on your browser. That way you don't have to remember how to spell 'glyptostroboides' or whatever for the umpteenth time. I make sure to delete the misspelled ones too, to keep from getting distracted.

claypa, i am computer challenged......don't know what you are talking about.......I always go to generalized search because I don't even understand genus, family, etc.......

Personall I prefer common names. Botanical names are for Master Gardners. If you want to put the Botanical name in Paras., fine.

kyjoy, take a look at this search result: http://davesgarden.com/pf/adv_search.php?searcher[common]=daylily&searcher[family]=&searcher[genus]=&searcher[species]=&searcher[cultivar]=candian&searcher[hybridizer]=&search_prefs[sort_by]=rating&images_prefs=both&Search=Search

You can completely bypass the botanical name, and add only the cultivar/variety name and the common name (or just one of them, if it's fairly unique - searching all "daylily" entries would be a little overwhelming ;o)

I like botanical names........just can't remember them well enough to find them.......for example, I know that the lipstick plant is aesy and then i don't know any more........wish i could learn the botanical names........
