Seed Give Away JMG cross pink blizzard x purple blizzard F2

Baton Rouge area, LA(Zone 8b)

Attention. If anyone wishes to participate in the F2 grow out of pink x purple blizzard please send me Dmail. I`ll need your mailing address so please include that in your Dmail. The first ten responders will get a packet of one hand pollinated pod of the mother plant.

Next, there will be a thread devoted to F2 grow out result pictures.

5 seeds will plant a 4- 5 gallon container and climb a 5 6 foot trellis. The plan is to see what all shows up.

Don`t worry if you happen to not be able to come through with it because of lifes circumstances. I also want you to just have the seeds to enjoy for yourself.

Oh yes, me too. I have a stump in the back that I want to run mg over and that would be wonderful.

Edited from me too, my manners got washed away in all the rain I guess. Thank you.

Sounds yummy, count me in!

I guess this is my 4th of July present for everyone. I hope the offspring are fitting to the occasion!

Happy Fourth everyone!

College Station, TX(Zone 8b)

I'm planting cypress vine, the real thing I think, I can just imagine how gorgeous this color will be with that.

Baton Rouge area, LA(Zone 8b)

I have a feeling this hybrid may throw out some surprises. I`m guessing most will be a purple blizzard with the white throat but I also suspect some fuschia throats and some pink or even fuschia or pink ray patterns with blizzard markings following a pattern from solid to almost white. It will be interesting to see what shows up.

College Station, TX(Zone 8b)

that will be fine with me. I'm very new to mg's and am just tickled pink at how easy and lovely they are.

Charlotte, NC

Ohhh, I would love to try these. I'll send a d-mail right away.

(Zone 7a)

would love to try this - sent you dmail - but prioritize everyone else first

hi..id like to try also and thanks so much

Hi, Thanks so much for the responses! I`m filled up now. What I`ll do is fill the first ten responses with the hand pollinated pods I have available and then if anyone is left over I can still send some of the open pods. Just be sure to remember if you got a open pollinated pod or a hand pollinated pod and state which kind when you post a picture. They were growing about 8-10 feet away from a nice variety of other large flowered arieties so the open pods might look nice too.

Now I went to check my pods. They are beginning to dry but they are not totally ready to pick yet. It will be a few weeks...I`ll write back here when I get them ready to go.

Again, thanks so much everyone!

Karen

scio, oregon, OR(Zone 8a)

Glad to try them if you need more grow-outs. I grow all winter, too.

Baton Rouge area, LA(Zone 8b)

Guess what? I went outside to check the pods again and I noticed some places where some of the seeds had already been harvested. Had I harvested already? I went and checked my seed drawer and there they were two packs of seeds one hand pollinated and another open pollinated seeds from the pink x purple blizzard cross!

I have enough hand pollinated ones to send to the first 11 responders and then if there are any responders left after that it will be open seeds.

So everybody keep an eye on your mail box the next week or so. :)

College Station, TX(Zone 8b)

oh goody goody, jumping up and down. lol

Baton Rouge area, LA(Zone 8b)

Ok, I have results for who exactly are the first 11 responders. My first attempt was this thread and I got two quick responses.

http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/723601/

1. Atenkly Email 7/03/07 5:09 PM
2. Luvsgreatdanes Email 7/03/07 8:32

Then I put in this thread to get more attention and got the next 9:

3. Emma Grace post 7/04/07 1:15 PM

4. AuntAnne post 7/04/07 1:25 PM

5. Gourd post 7/04/07 1:31PM

6. cattjovi post 7/04/07 1:40PM

7. syrumani email 7/04/07 1:41PM

8. Giddy Moon email 7/04/07 1:41PM

9. SunnyAz email 7/04/07 3:31PM

10. Mulletman post 7/04/07 6:00

11. bluespiral post 7/04/07 6:08

There are five other responders I will have to send open pollinated seeds. These seeds were planted with other very nice large flowered varieties as neighbors so these seeds should yeild some pretty flowers. You just put in they were one of the open pollinated seeds.

Open pollinated F2 seeds:

1. Pamsue 7/04/07 10:00

2. moretz 7/04/07 11:56

3. Azreno 11:08 AM

4. Byndeweedbeth 7/05/07 1:23 PM

5. brandie21 4:39

And that`s about it for now. Thanks to all who responded. I look forward to seeing results!!!

I`m starting a pot of 5 seeds right now.

bye/bye for now.

Karen

Ohh. how wonderful... I made the cut :)

These will be the prettiest MG's I have. I hope I can do them justice.

Any tips on how best these germinate? Direct sow, or germinate in moist paper towel, vermiculite, or other seed starting medium?

Are these fast growers?

Mesa, AZ(Zone 9b)

Woo hoo! Thanks Karen!

As late as it is in the season, is everyone going to wait to sow next spring (except for Beth of course :)? I stink at growing things indoor, air is too dry, so no way am I gonna try them indoors.

hickory, NC(Zone 7a)

ok great i am in!!!!!!!!!! yes oh yes
so when are we suppose to grow these? this year or next? ill be gone all next week but i could sow before i go and they might be up by the time i get back plmk and thxs so much for this offer
BTW what am i suppose to be sending you? plmk and thxs again

Baton Rouge area, LA(Zone 8b)

I have to go run errands. I`ll be back to talk more later and answer questions

or anyone else please feel free to offer suggestions! Karen

scio, oregon, OR(Zone 8a)

I will go ahead and start them this summer, then bring them in the greenhouse in the fall. Should be interesting!

(Zone 7a)

Karen, I'm going to send you a SASBE - bubble envelope with return postage and labels inside - many thank yous

Mullettman, here's a draft of EmmaGrace's notes on germinating MGs with Ipomoea nil, I. purpurea & I. youjiro genes. (It works on many others, but with over 50 genera and over 1,000 species in the morning glory family, this does not apply to all cases.) -

http://davesgarden.com/forums/p.php?pid=3303432

It needs updating, but am not feeling too well right now - it's given me great success in germinating Karen's and others' seeds of this type.

I have a quick announcement to make and then I have to go run a kitten over to her new home.

There were some responders on the original thread who got overlooked. All the very first months ago responders on the original are included in the hand tied pod grow out. The rest of the list will stay the same. Karen

hickory, NC(Zone 7a)

Karen
if you need mine to give to someone who asked for them before i did please fill their request first ok? i can wait until next time even if it is next year ok? thxs so much

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

This is going to be fun, to see what differences we get. I am going to start mine right away and bring them inside if need be in the fall!! Can't wait!! Thanks Karen for this opportunity.♥

Robertsdale, AL(Zone 8b)

Hi Karen,

Thanks for all your hard work on this project. Should be interesting to see everyone's results.

I came across this show picture on a Japanese site and it reminded me of your work!

Wow, that is beautiful they way they fix them up like that! It looks so perfect. I think that pattern has a Japanese name because I saw a seedpack on the internet with a similar patterned flower picture on it. I just can`t read Japanese.

Anyhow, I collected more seeds this morning and they need to dry. I`m going back to the other thread and revise my list with the first responders being first. I overlooked that one detail. Some people already had first dibs on the seeds from back then. :)

I`m sorry for the confusion! Thank you MGJ for bringing this to my attention. You are a life saver. Thanks again!

I have decided to mail everyone hand pollinated seeds. Some people might have to wait a week longer but I`m going to mail them out as they get ready.

I`m going to go do some work and I`ll get some seeds ready to go this weekend.

bye for now,

Karen
