CLOSED: Tipula lateralis or.......?

Lincoln, United Kingdom(Zone 8a)

This looks similar to Tipula lateralis, pics are hard to come by.

The wing veination is spot on, the abdomen pattern is not but is close,

Bioimages has one showing the wings but the body is not visible, a tentative ID only. It is laying eggs in blanketweed algae, my bath thub has that in (the ornamental one!).

Beringotipula subgenus, borealis species is what I came across in a search, the pic was taken at night but the markings on the abdomen look the same as mine, first pic on top row.

Another image of Beringotipula borealis is different.

Janet, I lean towards it being Tipula lateralis

Thanks Ken, I will add it to PF as the wing veination is the best clue and can be seen easily.

Ken, I have added it to PF with pics, it has gone to the end of the list as I put 'Cranefly' as one word where the rest are two words.

I have noticed that most entries do not go alphabetically until at least the "p's" in species names.

I have also noticed when searching for a bug it hasn't come up with a variety of search options, i.e common name, just the genus, genus + species. On looking through the list I found what I was looking for, so now I just go through the lists to be safe. It could be a problem.
