My Ex-MIL makes Lasangna with zuccini and it's really good too.
I'm pretty excited, I found corn ready to be picked very soon!!

I have a picture i'd like you to guess what plant this flower comes from. I will wait until later today to tell if anyone got it right and who. I never would of guessed if I didn't know already. Another words...up until this week I did not know this plant had white flowers.
Here it is...lets start guessing!

Looks like the flower from my ornamental gourd, however I can't check as none are open now. ????

Something in the squash family is the best I can muster.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Something in the squash family....kinda vague aren't ya Victor. lol

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I always like to keep expectations low - that way you end up impressing no matter what.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

From the size of the leaf I'd guess some kind of squash, too. Certainly NOT asparagus!

How big is the flower?

Clinton, CT(Zone 6b)

Pixie....potato?

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

I would say everyone got the answer correct in a round about way.
You can laugh if you want to but I really had no idea these had white flowers, never mind very pretty and shaped ones!
The answer to the white blossom is......

I'm growing them for my DGD's along with a mess of others.

Cool! That will look great in the window.

Also planted Birdhouse gourds, Swan gourds, Big Max pumpkins, and Little Jack mini pumpkins. I grew the white for a change and because Hayden who is 3, thinks she's Picasso. These are supposed to be better to paint on due to the smooth skins, we'll see after Picasso is done with it. LOL
For those of you who have never seen a photo of her....this is the next Picasso, Miss Hayden.

Wow - what a cutie Celeste!! Beautiful eyes.

Thanks Victor....she gets those from me! LOL

Here's a few night shots of the white Lumina plants. The flowers are stunning and seem to open at night and into the morning. They shrivel up during the heat of the day.

I love the shape of the flower.

My 1 garlic bulb. I'm ordering a sampler pack of garlic for the fall to see if I can grow more than one next year.

Savor it!! I have to try garlic again myself. Love it.

The blackberries are here!

Yes, my son and I have been enjoying ours as well.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

We've been enjoying cherry tomatoes (Sweet 100), cucumbers, broccoli, fresh peas, raspberries and very soon will come real tomatoes that don't bounce.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Picked my first Cherry Tomato yesterday. We'll be having lots. Angry that my transplants labeled as Beefsteaks turned out to be Plums. Bummer.

Never tried Broccoli. Easy to grow? Is the taste very different from the store? Some veggies don't really taste that different. To me, Peppers fall into that category. Of course I still know what went into it - and what didn't!

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Yes, Broccoli is easy enough to grow but if you see flowers you've waited too long to harvest it. It cooks much quicker and is milder than the store bought varieties. Peppers grown at home don't have that thick tough skin that produce stores and supermarkets sell. True, knowing what wasn't used to spray our food is a big item.

Squash and cukes are done here. Powdery or downy mildew I guess (it looked like both but more of the former). The run wasn't bad though, harvested the first squash June 10th. Had them in 15 gallon easi-lift grow bags which worked pretty good. Thinking of putting something else in them now. Any ideas? Should I toss all the soil in the bags out?

Lemon cukes two weeks before their demise. The start of the problem is visible on the lower leaves:

Hi David,

Wow yours started way earlier than mine. I have only been harvesting for about 10 -14 days. Lately, my leaves are turning very yellow so I may have a problem too. We have had ample rain. If you suspect a disease, I would hesitate to use the soil.

This is the in-between period. Kind of too late for the Summer veggies and a bit early for cool season stuff.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Victor is right about this being the in-between time of year - maybe time for an extra nap!

Have either of you considered the use of Messenger right from the time you plant them or they first show a few leaves?

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

No.

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

Pirl, I tried it on everything last year and can't say I noticed a difference. Who knows, it could have prevented problems but nothing seemed bigger. Other people I respect have loved it. Did you ever try?

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Some on DG seem to love it. My extension agent tried it herself and found no effect whatsoever. I would be concerned about using it long-term since it works by inducing a stress response.

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

Does your extension agent like anything? ;^)

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Dead heading artificial flowers - know anyone who does that??

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

Technically, I was removing a stalk.

Clinton, CT(Zone 6b)

Victorgardener...I cheated. Started squash under growlights. Then they went, nestled between 1 gallon water jugs, into the back of a pick-up which was moved into the garage when frost threatened. 15 gallon grow bags were the final destination (had to cover those up a few nights because of the chill).

Only problem with that set-up was when my brother-in-law borrowed the truck and didn't look in the back (don't ask me why he didn't, I don't know). 48 tomato plants and 2 dozen squash got a nice ride around town until I noticed the truck gone and called him on his cell.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Okay - now it makes more sense David. Like the veggies doing the town story.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Victor - you're falling down on the job! I expected more of a response regarding being nestled..........as David mentioned.

Yes, we have used Messenger and should have kept using it last year and NOT stopped.

Kids induce stress responses about 14 to 16 hours a day, right Victor?

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Absolutely right about the kids Pirl. What plants do you use Messenger on?

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Tomatoes.

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

Victor, Messenger works wellon kids. They avoid illness and grow up (and out) quicker. My 8 yr. old & 14 yr. old used to be twins before I experimented with Messenger on one of them!
