Interest in fall swap in Frederick?

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Heya! I realized I was taking Wrightie's thread waaaay off course by posting this suggestion there, so I figured I'd better start a new thread and see who might be interested in coming up to Frederick for a plant swap this fall (mid-september-ish).

Hart just very generously posted something about being willing to host another swap this fall, but I thought it wouldn't be bad to spread the hosting duties around. I think we've got enough room (yard, deck, 2 little patios) to spread out with plants and (simpler!) food, and it would be fun. I know it would be more of a drive for some folks, but it'll be less of a drive for others, so we may end up with a different mix of people.

Let me know what you think, if you'd be interested in a fall swap in Frederick.

:-)

edited just because I got curious about the number of "yes" and "maybe" responses and decided to count them up... I know this list isn't definite so far in advance, and "maybe" could turn to "no" rather than to "yes" as we hope, but it'll give us an idea of the number of people expressing interest so far. :-)

I'm in!

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

Critter, I was thinking the same thing about location. We had a wonderful time at Harts and she was an excellent host. Traveling for me really isn't much of an issue I'd go just about anywhere. But if different people in different locations hosted then maybe other people that couldn't get to Harts could come. Ric and I would be willing to host next year, but that is something to talk about next spring.
We probably will not be able to come to a fall swap. We'll be out of state from Sept 1st to Oct 15, but I would love to get together again and spend some more time talking.

Danville, VA(Zone 7a)

Let me see how far is this from me???? LOLOLOL Cant say for sure but hey count me in...or should I say us...
Susan

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

I could make that one!

Sounds like fun. Thank you for offering!

Oh goodie, lastelf can make it to this one. It will be fun to meet even more folks who have become a big part of my day each day as I check in on my definite favorite website.

Critter, thank you for making the offer to host a fall swap also. Since both you and hart have offered your places, it will need to be decided who will actually host it, and when it will be. I am looking forward to spending more time with each of you.

I hope that everyone will enjoy the day and have a good week coming up. Happy Gardening all.

Frederick is roughly an hour away from DC or Baltimore. Our place is quite close to 15/340, 270, and 70, just south of the city limits, so we're easy to get to. (If you look at a map, there's a triangle of space between where 70 and 270 meet -- that's where we are.)

As I said, I don't have acreage to speak of, but I think there's still enough room for us to spread out, and I've got a couple of canopies for shade. Parking... well, we might annoy the neighbors if we park up the entire cul-de-sac, so we'll play that by ear... If we really get a lot of folks, we can park around the corner at the community center (a walk of about 2 city blocks) and just drive cars around for loading/unloading.

Lastelf, it would be fun to meet you!

I'm glad this is sounding like a good idea to folks, and I hope nobody feels that I'm slighting Hart's generosity by offering to host in her stead... hey, if we end up with two fall swaps or get-togethers, that would be fine too!

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

I can make Frederick easy. I won't have near as much stuff though!! Better season for shrubs, maybe cuttings? I'll replace anything of mine that didn't make it for anybody.
I hope everyone can come.

Strasburg, VA(Zone 6b)

my fingers are crossed that i can make a swap....either or both options for locations are do-able :-)

Chevy Chase, MD(Zone 7a)

Count me in, of course!

Danville, VA(Zone 7a)

Well I guess we get to tow the popup again...LOL I think this one is even further then Harts.... I will talk with hubby...

Brunswick, MD(Zone 6b)

Susan, If you happen to come a 340 route, you could stay at the Harpers Ferry campground and throw in a little tour of Harpers Ferry too. It's only about 25 to 30 minutes to Jills from there.

Adamstown, MD(Zone 6b)

I'd love to do this but I'm not sure when I'll be around in September. I know I'm away the first three weekends and the last one I have my grandson staying with me. I can't be more than a few miles from you, Critter. Just south of Buckeystown -- a couple of miles north of Thanksgiving Farm. And that is where I'm off to now.
I'd be happy to help out depending on when . . .

Sherry

Danville, VA(Zone 7a)

Thanks we will have to start looking for places... If Kevin has the weekend off I am sure we will come...What am I saying I know we could come as Kevin had just as much fun at Harts as I did... So did my son...LOL
miatablu could you please tell me your name?? I am sorry but I cant remember is it Deven? sorry :-(

Thanksgiving Farm - he comes to our local Farmer's Market to sell fresh produce & plants on Saturday mornings.

Buckeystown - well, that's where I bought my horse. Groovy. Here are some pictures of him: http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/717842/

Brunswick, MD(Zone 6b)

Susan, no need to apoligize. Trying to put names to faces and swap all those plants was a challenge. I'm Bobbie. I was set up with Critter's (Jill) table because we came together.

Danville, VA(Zone 7a)

Thank you so much Bobbi, I know who you are now :-) Thanks... I hate not being able to remember but hey is me... Also I really did not know allot of you before this swap, as I joined the Mid South forum thinking that is where I was closest to and really this is where I am closest to... I love both fourms... I will also get to go to one of there RU also some day...
Ok I am asking now so I will have to to put these in a pot and this way they wont go to the next RU all dead looking.... I have white crape myrtles and they always are poping up babies so let me know... Anybody know how to grow butterfly bushes from bushes??? I know they seed but how about rooting?
Susan

Chevy Chase, MD(Zone 7a)

Fredericksburg, VA(Zone 7a)

Karen

Chevy Chase, MD(Zone 7a)

Me too -- Susan, it'll be good to see your extra-nice family again!

Danville, VA(Zone 7a)

Devin,
It is that far from you ??? You live in MD dont you? Really I will have to tell Mike so he can take the weekend off...LOL Two out of 4 of my sons like to garden and also help me allot in mine....
Susan

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Happy has been up to my place before... when it's not rush hour, I'm thinking it should take her about an hour... unfortunately, she and her girls sat in traffic when they came up last time!

I'll take a look at my calender when I get back home (we're in NC this week), since it sounds like it might be a good idea to go ahead and pick a day.

I mentioned to DH that there seemed to be interest in a fall swap.... he said, "where?" but then remembered that he had recently agreed that I could offer to host a swap... LOL. He's pretty tolerant of all my plants and gardening activities, but his participation and attention span are, shall we say, somewhat limited. He will help from time to time with digging holes or toting bales of potting mix, so I'm definitely not complaining!

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Susan, if Mike knows at this point which weekend he'll have off in September, let me know and I'll see what I can do when I take a look at my calendar at home....

Danville, VA(Zone 7a)

Its not Mike it is Kevin. Mike can get off most any weekend if he know ahead of time but it is Kevin who is off every other weekend and I am going now to wake him up to see what his weekends off are in Sept... BRB in a few to post...LOL
Susan

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Oh golly, don't wake the poor man, let him sleep!

I won't know what I can work out in terms of timing until I get home at the end of the week and can check the calendar... I'll cross my fingers that the weekend that works for me will also work for you!

Danville, VA(Zone 7a)

Hi again,
Ok just asked Kevin with work calender in hand which weekends he is off in Sept... Here they are, he is off the weekend of September 7th-9th and also 21st-23... So if you have it on one of these weekends count us in... We would travel on either Thursday night after I get off of work or on Friday and come home on Sunday just like we did with Harts... I do understand if it cant be these weekends but I sure hope it is... I wont travel that far without him, I get lost very easy :-(
Susan

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

I hate to speculate without my official calendar in hand, but we might be able to make September 8 work...

Does anybody else have conflicts or schedule considerations in September? The second or third Saturday might be the days that would work out better for us, although, as I said, I need to check the home calendar.

Metro DC, MD(Zone 7a)

Hopefully I'll be employed 'elsewhere' ... in which case, my calendar would be officially up in the air. If still with same company, I'll be there with jinglebellz on!

Chevy Chase, MD(Zone 7a)

September 8 works for me, but if the timing works I'd like to hit French class first, which gets out at 1:30 -- puttting my in Frederick around 2:30. But I skipped it for Hart's swap, so I could do it again. Je ne sais pas.

My spouse and kids might make it, but chances are will be playing/coaching soccer. Maybe they can come later in the day . . . . .

Danville, VA(Zone 7a)

Ok so now I am confused, but hey that is nothing new ... Hey no coments from anyone...LOLOLOL Is the swap at Harts or in MD????
Susan

Chevy Chase, MD(Zone 7a)

I think we are waiting to see if Critter will be able to find a date that is good for her --- she graciously offered to share the hosting duties since Hart had already hosted one, but Hart has (amazingly) said she would be willing to host again as well. Critter was thinking that maybe by shifting locales, we could get some folks who otherwise wouldn't come because the drive is too long. But we hope and trust you will come regardless (if the date works), since we hope you will drive to the ends of the earth for our swap!

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

LOL!

Yes, this thread is to determine if there's interest in having a fall swap at my place in Frederick. I'm pretty sure September 8 would be a good date for me, but I don't want to commit to the date before checking my calender (it's at home; I am not).

Sequim, WA(Zone 8a)

Howdy folks - I'd love to come to a swap again - regardless of location - been so darned busy, hardly had any time to read DG (the horror) - only gardening has been watering and pulling a few weeds and my continued battle against bugs - all the plants I received so generously at the swap is doing awesome - thanks y'all - keep me posted, MD or VA - as long as it's not in November :-)

Middle of, VA(Zone 7a)

Yipeeee....I found the thread...Sept. is great!!! Add me to the head count. :)

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

Count me in also-----if I can catch a ride with Sally again.

So far, I have NO idea what i would bring. I have nothing started--from seed or otherwise....Gotta get busy!

Gita

Chevy Chase, MD(Zone 7a)

I actually think it would be fun to have a lower-key get together with fewer plants -- I was so busy swapping that the time went by in two seconds flat, and I didn't have time to talk to anyone or look at half your beautiful tables.

Middle of, VA(Zone 7a)

ahhhh....agree with happy!!

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

I'm thinking the same thing... I may have a few extras available from the perennials I'll be "growing on" in pots this summer, but for me this get-together is more about the visiting than about the plant swapping. Of course, there will be Chocolate Peppermint and Kentucky Colonel Spearmint for anybody who missed it at Hart's swap!

We got in a short while ago, and I lost a few plants (looks like watering the deck containers didn't happen yesterday), but most things look great. Unfortunately, I lost most of my vinca from Hart's swap due to a failure of the automatic watering system for that bed (hose connection broke -- sometimes it's the simple things that fail!), so I'll be checking to see if anybody is thinning it out of their beds this fall! :-)
