CLOSED: SECRET TRADE = My box arrived

Hanson, KY(Zone 6a)

I'm getting just a wee bit worried here.........my buddy should of already received their "ray of sunshine package".............. hope they liked their goodies??????

New Hampshire, NH(Zone 5b)

I received my plants today!! Thank you ghia_girl!! Several co-workers gathered round as I opened up my box of goodies. Here's what I got: autumn joy sedum, balloon flower, yellow daylily, amaryllis and elephant ears. I also received a cute sign that says "Love Grows In My Garden". Everything arrived in perfect condition. Thank you so much!!

Picture below!

Edited to add - Brandy, if you could give me some tips on the amaryllis and elephant ears, that would be great! Do I plant them in pots so I can take them in, or plant them in the ground and dig up? Also - I'm embarrassed to ask but...which one is which ;o)??? I am guessing the one with leaves is amaryllis and the one with just roots elephant ears? Or the other way around?

My package came from Elizabethtown. She sent me LOTS of iris. Just exactly what I wanted. I couldn't be happier. Now off to look up the names to see what my surprises look like. Although it doesn't matter 'cause I love them all. I will cherish them. Thank you so much, Elizabethtown!

You're welcome Aline. Glad you liked them. Hope you like BBQ. (No dinosaurs required).

Fillmore, NY(Zone 5a)

My package arrived yesterday. I am overjoyed. Everything was perfectly packed. I recieved: Daylily stella d'oro, Daylily ruby, Gaillardia grande flora, gaillardia arisata, stokes asters, shasta daisy, chinese wisteria seeds. I am very pleased with everything. Thanks Cordeledawg

Gotta a Question:

Okay, so I now I have my plants from the trade, but I will be leaving out of town tomorrow morning - July 5th(arriving late the 5th). What should I do about the plants that I won't be able to get into the ground? (See pic I posted when I recieved the plants).

Possible Answers:
A. Moisten them them up and leave them in the packaging them came in? or
B. Take them out of the packaging and put them in containers of water in a east facing windowsill? or
C. well there really isn't one because it would require time I don't have at such short notice...

Help ASAP. Gotta know what's best by this evening. Thanks in advance.

Hanson, KY(Zone 6a)

rebecca,
if it was me........I would dig a small trench somewhere in the shade where the ground stays fairly moist and just lay them on their sides and cover the roots good and then water them really good before you leave....when you get home water them really good again and then when you are ready dig them up and plant them in their permanent locations.

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

That's good advice for Rebecca, and what I would do also. That's called heeling them in.

Hanson, KY(Zone 6a)

I knew it had a name but couldn't think of it if my life depended on it,

Lauri in WI

Rankin, IL(Zone 5a)

Your welcome Lauri,
The Potenilla is about 6 years old and has been very abused out here in the country, high winds, dry conditions etc.. last year was the first year I cut it way back after blooming and walla!!! I ended up with a second longer blooming period AND tons of babies.
Hope everything else works for you too... I know you said NO PURPLE, but I looked and looked and realized I have a LOT of purple.

Great fun Kathy, thanks for the trade!

YaHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

My box arrived only minutes ago!
Thank-you so very very much Sue/glamourpuss...... you couldn't have chosen plants....more suited to me and what I love....it's almost as if I was the one to choose them.

I received from Sue...........
Dark Purple Dwarf Iris
Blue Eyed Grass
Aster Sugarplum

I have actually been eyeing all of these in the catalogs and almost ordered some of the Blue Eyed Grass the other day but decided to let the holiday get past first. So glad I did!
Sue sent me nice large bundles of plants....not the tiny little sizes I would of received if I had ordered these from a catalog.

Sue..... your secret buddy does like their box every bit as much as you did yours...if not more so !
Thank-you my friend! and a very specialThank-you to Kathy for hosting this fun swap. Let's do it again soon!

Pearisburg, VA(Zone 7a)

For those of us who have not received a box - don't worry. After the mailing deadline I will allow a few days to receive the boxes and I WILL POST NAMES of those who skipped out on anyone. I will also leave neg. feedback on them if there's not a MAJORLY good excuse. I can't think of may good excuses to hurt someone's feelings and ruin a good, fun project. But if it happens we'll all know about it.

Kathy

Houston, TX(Zone 9b)

marie...Guess I never thought of it being the same, duh!!

Thanks again for a great treat!

U.P., MI(Zone 5a)

Oh Jane I am soo glad you received them I thought you would have gotten them on Saturday and I was worried.

I'm glad you like all of them :) the little purple iris came from my sister-in-laws neighbor. I drove by and saw how beautiful they were and knew I had to have some. So I went knocking on her door and begged. I did some fast talking, even helped her weed her flowers beds and came home with these beauties. I'm happy to share with you.
The blue eyed grass is a new addition for my garden this year, so far I love it. So I knew I had to get some for you also.
Than I was out on an errand and spotted the sunplum aster in someones yard. I thought the dark mauve daisy like flowers were pretty special. I didn't know what they were but they caught my eye. A couple days later I was at the local garden center looking for just the right plant for you and found the sunplum aster. The mystery plant I had spotted a few days before. I got one for you and of course one for me. I hope you enjoy them all.

This was so much fun and I am so glad you like the plants.

Best wishes,
Sue

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

SilkieChick, thank you so much. It was like Christmas but you seem to know what I like...LOL, my husband said he didn't think I could be any more excited if he had bought me diamonds, now I don't think I'd get that carried away but it was great.
I got my package today and everything was in great shape. I have daylilies but no orange, I have hostas but not the Golden Tiara, I have iris but not that color, I just started canna;s this year but I had orange no red, I almost bought liatris this weekend at a sale but didn't, so you did it for me. How perfect! You couldn't have picked plants any better if you had walked thru my garden. Again thank you so much...now when going thru the garden I can say my secret trader got that for me.
Thank you so much
Joyce

De Soto, MO

My box came today, and what a box it was! Thank you Diamond123 (Dan). I thought I would have to dig 3 holes to plant my new flowers. I will have to get the tiller out to plant this box of goodies. I sure wasn't expecting anything like this.
Dan sent everything I will need to plant a Corner Garden of Grasses. There was Blue Fescue, Silver Grass, Switch Grass, Fountain Grass, Creeping Baby's Breath and Autum Joy Stonecrop. He sent the directions too. He also sent a 7 Sisters Rambling Rose I have wanted since I was a kid.
I went to look through some threads he started and got hung up there for hours looking at his photo's of his Brugs. All I can say is I hope to beg some cuttings from him when he gets ready to take them in for the winter. I would have posted this sooner if I hadn't started looking at his gardens.
I can't thank you enough for all that you sent. They will have a special place in my childrens memorial garden. Thank you

Hi June, I am so glad you are happy with your plants. Grasses like the tall silver grass graziela are pretty hard to dig out, or it would have been a bigger plant than I gave you, but it has roots and will grow pretty quick. I read your past threads and read about the seven sister rose, and I just happen to have one from the rose co-op I hosted that rooted, it's just a baby, and really should stay in the pot for a while. I would plant it this early fall when things are a little cooler and the roots bigger. I will take a picture of my corner of grasses and post a little later.
Happy Gardening!

I came home from work to a delightful package. Thank you so much Sheila (shuggins). I received the most nicley packed plants today. I was so excited because I did not have any of the things she sent. I got nice double fans of Strawberry Candy and Jungle Princess daylilies. I have been wanting Strawberry Candy for a while now. 3 very nice fans of TBI Gold Imperial, several lovley purple LA iris, a clump of sedum and some great Butterfly Weed seeds. I was just trying to get my DH to stop along side of the interstate so I could get some wild butterfly weed. She grew all of these in her garden and sent color photo's of each plant. Thanks so much for all the wonderful gifts Sheila!!!

Betty

Thanks Tammy for your very generous trade. I am appreciative of the difficulty to dig in the midst of the torrential rains we have been having.

Tammy sent me fans of bog iris reds or purple. A named bearded iris "Summer Olympics". Divisions of lantana and agastache. A division of lizard lily, which I am very curious about. Seed for a black holleyhock. I feel blessed to have them all. I have been a little puny today so I didn't get them in the ground. Looking forward to a better tommorow so I can get out . Thanks to the life giving rains I have tomatoes rotting on the vine, we are not able to eat them fast enough.
Good gardening ya"ll,
Jackie

All those came out of that flat rate box? She's one good packer!

Texas/Okla central b, United States(Zone 7b)

yep..that's my girl!!!

Houston, TX(Zone 9b)

Betty...I'm really glad that you liked the box and that it got there okay.

If the butterfly weed does as well for you as it does for me, you won't have to worry about getting any additional seeds. They seem to germinate well. They are even growing in my fountain just by having the water running over them. I think the original tag said 3-4 feet tall, but mine are pushing 6 feet, so be sure to put them in the back.

Happy Gardening!!
Sheila

Metrowest, MA(Zone 6a)

Whew! Shirley I was so worried that you hadn't gotten your box!! I hope that everything does well for you. I love crinums, too...I'm so glad you do:-)
The salvia, the crinum, and the ghost fern all came from Plant Delights, my favorite place to shop. You are officially the first one that I ever entrusted the salvia to. I think that Tony has decided that it should have a different name, but I can't remember what it is...
If you'd like to check, go to their website http://plantdelights.com
Enjoy! and thanks for letting me know it arrived. Guess I can sleep now...that's the fun part, right?
