heavy on the shadows there. LOL
Well it's hard to capture the Hilo reds so i waited until sunset..
;=~
This is another but a little brighter i think lol..
This shows the Almost Black buds lol..
shoot against a dark background;=~ LOL
You do know these are trees in my yard?
Shall i park a dark truck behind the tree?
Hehe..
;=~
yeah, i know. LOL it's all about perspective. LOL shoot down and let the dark leaves and grass be your background. LOL camera sees bright sky or the other case white paper and it shuts down. LOL
Yummy!!! I ssoooo want that!!!
Karen
(You snuck another one in while I was typing Clare!) I want the 'Almost Black'!

Karen, it is probably misnamed as Robert said and is really 'Hilo Beauty,' which is easy to find. I'm sure Florida Colors Nursery has it: http://www.floridacolors.com/red%20page.htm
Thanks Clare... I've been gettin' an eye-ful of it over there at their website!
I think I'll try to stick with what I have this year, since I'm so new at this, and I still have to winter them over... but maybe next year! It will be the very next plumie I order, whenever that is!
Karen
that's it clare! we're raiding your yard. when are you not going to be home??? LOL
clare - having "true" white in the image does help with your white balance. that is why your color is so vivid and right on. on the other hand it can tend to make the shadows darker. however, in yours and robert's case of almost black it does the trick.
dete
LOL, thanks, Dete. I'm always home! LOL! When I'm not home, my security system is watching! Thanks for the info on the white balance.
dag nabbit! oh well, we'll just come and hang out with you instead 8=)
Going home to check my white balance...sad to say all these years taking pics....never messed with it...ugh! Love THAT photoshop :)
chantell - you're using one of the newer nikon digital cameras, right? you can do an auto white balance. i use an 18% gray card. simply set up the camera to shoot an auto white balance frame, fill the frame with the card and shoot. i always make sure that the card is in from of the object that i want to photog.
Actually I'm a "Canon gal" - LOL Don't have a digital SLR quite yet....working with my S3IS. Silly question - but if it's called white balance why do you use grey? Somehow I have a feeling this is going to be one of my "duh" questions...and since I'm just throwing my ignorance "out there" where does one find these cards - Ritz Camera or the like?
18% gray is neutral and an industry standard that was the heart of camera metering systems. the effect is color normalization. white is subjective. i've heard that even white printer paper has some blue in it. for our purposes though white will work, too. look at clare's stunning photo of almost black.
now i want to know why 18% gray is half way between white and black. LOL
yeah, ritz or the like should have them.
Dete..
Lol i am not a professional photographer...
My goal is to capture the real color of each of the plumies i have...
My pics sometimes might be a little dark but my goal was met IMHO..
I used a Cannon also but still can't fiquire out the white balance thingy lol..
I have shot reds with a light background and have capture true red hues IMHO..
Not quite sure what you mean in your post about grey..
My manual says to use a white paper so where does one get a precise 18% grey?
Here is a shot... opps! Wonderful pics Clare don't mean to hijack..
..here is a shot i did with a light background of a scott pratt and IMHO i captured the true color of her at that time...
