i just got a new vitamin for my dog. he weighs 80 pounds. the directions say 4,5 to 9,0 Kg, give 1 tablet, over 9,0 Kg, 2 tablets. so, i can't seem to google any translations.

I tried to do this..and i got:

1 kg is 2.2 lbs

not to good at math and still trying to figure it out

well, i do remember that a kilo is 2.2 pounds but that 9,0 thing is confusing me. it's a comma, not a decimal point. that would mean any dog over approx. 20 lbs. would get two and that doesn't seem right. if worse comes to worse, i'll call the vet on monday. seems like we ought to be able to figure this out!

Much of Europe and maybe the rest of the world exchanges the use of the comma and period. The period seperates groups of 3 characters and the comma is the decimal seperator.

well, i think i understand what you're saying but i still don't get it....

I think it works out to: 10 to 20 lbs, use one tablet; over 20lbs use two.

thanks june. i think that's what it means too. i'm going to call the vet on monday to be sure.

Rocky Mount, VA(Zone 7a)

80/2.2 = 36 kilograms = two pills, still check w/the vet just to be on the safe side (can never be too careful where dosage is in question).

9 kg is 19.8 pounds... so you give 2 tablets.

That is according to my husband :o)

thank you char. doesn't it seem that an 80 pound dog would get more than that? i don't think i like these vitamins! ~O~

There are many sites on the internet that offer conversions. This is one of them. The metric system is by far the best system of measurments. There are only two or three countries that don't use the metric system. The US is one of them.

Long ago it was one dosage regardless of the size/weight of the dog. Too many problems for smaller dogs so now they've distinguished between small and large, with large dogs still getting all the vitamins they need.

Hope that helps.

actually pirl, when these are gone, i'm switching him to a different brand. i found a better one online! thanks!

Good! How's he feeling?

track, is there a particular reason you're giving Bosco vitamins? I'm wondering because my Kramer is almost 9 years old and wondering if I need to give a supplement. All I give him is glucosamine/condroitin when it gets cool around here. It takes him more effort to stand up when it's cold and the G/C helps a lot. I think labs are prone to joint problems.

what benefits have you noticed?

it was an ordeal, but the worst is over and he is mending nicely now, with the help of antibiotics and pain medication.

hi nery, bosco has been sick and i've taken him to three vets. the second and third vet both suggested vitamins because he is/was anemic. i found some good ones with the glucosamine in them at drsfostersmith.com. they are called lifestage select senior plus. bosco ended up having a very bad infection due to rotten teeth in front between the bottom canines. had i not seen the nastiness in there, i would never have known. it was in a spot that was hard to see. anyway, they've all been removed now and hopefully he will be feeling better soon.

Best wishes to Bosco!
