Forum or announcement area of plant sales?

Acton, CA(Zone 8b)

I don't know if something like this exists already on this site, but it would be a great idea to have some place where one can see what sales there are scheduled about the country, so one doesn't pass you by without knowing about it. Could be a regional thing... for example, a schedule of plant sales/meetings for southern California people, with all the sales/meetings/events listed in all the various types of plants or plant-related activities. Is there something like this already??

think I found it... but it's hardly being used... wonder why...

Called DAvesgarden Calendar... but seems underused... nothing listing here in California for years.

DavesGarden Calendar would be better named Garden Events Calendar? Since none of these events take place at or in Dave's Garden.

I agree

I found it! This site can be such a 'treasure hunt' sometimes. It is called DG Calendar of Events. One post for 2007. Four for 2006. You called it under used, I would call it unknown or forgotten.

I did notice that the only post for '07 got 796 hits, that is respectable for any thread. A sampling of others showed more modest numbers. I bet it would attract more attention if it was posted as a 'sticky' a the top of the forum, i.e. if there is a Begonia show, top of that forum.

It would be nice if someone could write a program that could select the members by geography (and/or interest) and post a notice at the top of their home page on this site. If I got an alert about a plant sale near me I would be more inclined to attend. Lot of hours spent writing software for what is simply a public service. I am afraid that the new owners might use it to send me ads. I like Classified, but, I also like the option of not seeing what I can't use. I am big on choice, but, always ready to promote the 'not for profit' sector.

I am not sure, but, I suspect that people don't scroll down any forum more than about 20 threads. I would bet that more than 50% of the folks have never seen the bottom of a forum page.

I have..I always scroll right to the bottom of the page...but I am weird......I always thought the DG Calendar of Events was DG related stuff, bet lots of other folks think so too.....

Ever go to page 2, or further?

I still think it should be called Calendar of Garden Events, with no mention of Dave, since he is not going to be there and it doesn't take place in his garden.

We are, in a sense, inside Dave's Garden right now, spooky thought (for me)!

I found it ! Put it in my forums watch list. Hopefully this thread will get alot of hits and people will start using it to announce events.

We had talked at one time about making a full-blown "Calendar of Events" application where people could add entries for upcoming local announcements. Maybe it's time to resurrect that idea, and make it a prominent feature so that'll become "complete" and well-used?

Yup, it's time...maybe it's own tab up top? to replace the articles one maybe? lots of times I have heard about plant sales....after they are over and everyone is showing me their newly purchased goodies......

I would love something like that--I saw the events forum but it seemed like nothing ever got posted there, so I rely on people posting in the CA forum if they know of something.

Let's put this on the TODO; maybe we can get it done this week.

Cool! Thanks Dave!
