When/Where is this hoe-down going on?

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Dyson, it's TOMORROW (Saturday) at Hart's.... look for her other threads on the MidAtlantic forum!

(Be there, or be square! LOL)

Rocky Mount, VA(Zone 7a)

Can't do tomorrow, that far way, out of my call-in time frame. Maybe next time.

Kilmarnock, VA(Zone 7a)

Okay, guys, I'm packed up (what little I have any way) and will be on my way very early tomorrow morning. I'm really just coming to meet everyone and have a fun time with other dirt diggers. See you then.

Betty

Metro DC, MD(Zone 7a)

Looking forward to meeting you, Dirty Betty!

Chevy Chase, MD(Zone 7a)

Ah my. I'm still going to be digging plants when Wrightie shows up in the morning. It'll be a wonder if I sleep at all. (Of course, I'm still at work -- that might have something to do with it!)

Middle of, VA(Zone 7a)

wrightie - if you have any of the Datura Metel, Black Currant Swirl and as long as they are extras (I don't want you giving up any plants you wanted to keep), I'd love to give it a happy home. I have Datura seeds that I've never tried, if you're interested in some.

Metro DC, MD(Zone 7a)

Yours, Chantell! Everything in my list is "extra" so don't worry about that. I started these guys a few months back and I still have seeds left over, so save your seeds. I see that something has started munching on them this week, but I sprayed them right away with a homemade insectidal soap on Monday and, just to be safe, hit them with Garden Safe's Rose & Flower Spray tonight. Is that okay with you? Unfortunately, everything that I have is quite small, but I put them all in larger pots last week, therefore they ought to take off soon.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Oooh, Wrightie, I'd love some of your 'Broken Colors' Mirabilis.... and maybe a hollyhock if I can tempt you enough with something in return... :-)

This thunderstorm has put a crimp in my plans! I'm going to be boxing plants in the dark.... and I'm not sure when I'll be digging up that mint... at least it'll be easier to get up after the rain! I'm either going to be out there with my headlamp at midnight or heading out to the garden first thing in the morning.... hmmm.... just how early did I say I'd be picking up Bobbie?? LOL

Chevy Chase, MD(Zone 7a)

THUNDERSTORM? ??? Tell me no! I was going to rush home from work to pot, pot, pot (sounds like something a teenager would do!). If it's raining, I guess I won't hurry, but I'll get up really early. . . . Wrightie, I warned you I'm always late!

Chevy Chase, MD(Zone 7a)

Whew -- thanks for the warning. I just looked at the weather forecast, and it's saying:

* SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING FOR... MONTGOMERY COUNTY IN CENTRAL MARYLAND

* UNTIL 915 PM EDT

* AT 806 PM EDT...NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DOPPLER RADAR INDICATED A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM. THIS STORM WAS LOCATED NEAR POOLESVILLE...AND MOVING EAST AT 30 MPH. THESE STORMS HAVE A HISTORY OF PRODUCING WIND DAMAGE.

* LOCATIONS IMPACTED INCLUDE... BOYDS... GERMANTOWN... GAITHERSBURG... NORTH POTOMAC... MONTGOMERY VILLAGE... ROCKVILLE... ASPEN HILL... OLNEY... COLESVILLE...

HAIL TO THE SIZE OF PENNIES AND WIND GUSTS TO 60 MPH CAN BE EXPECTED IN THE WARNED AREA. STAY INDOORS AND AWAY FROM WINDOWS UNTIL THE STORM HAS PASSED.

Metro DC, MD(Zone 7a)

Okay, Critter, it's got your name on it. My first choice is choc' mint, second is sedum, third is whateva ya got, 4th is tell me a story.

Shenandoah Valley, VA

Already stormed here. No hail and not a lot of rain. Still kind of coming and going.

Wrightie, could I have some of your standing cypress and kiss me over the garden gate? Pretty please? Is the purple bell vine hardy?

I have plenty of yucca. I can send you home with a carload. LOL It's not silver and not very big, but I have a variegated artemisia. Will it root from cuttings? I can cut you a piece.

Well, I haven't dug the first plant. I watered everything this afternoon because it was too dry and heat stressed to dig. By the time it started to cool off a bit, it started storming. That's okay, though, I can dig stuff after you all get here tomorrow.

I pulled up some hollyhocks when I was weeding the sidewalk next to the garage the other day, some pretty big. The big ones don't look so hot but there are others out there if anyone wants any. These are old fashioned singles and perennial, not biennial. Even the little ones will probably be big enough to bloom next year and will bloom every year after that.

I have angelica blooming and some babies if anyone wants some. This is like angelica gigas only the blooms are white instead of purple. Maybe you'd like some for your herb garden, Wrightie.

Metro DC, MD(Zone 7a)

Hart, the standing cypress, kmotgg, and bell vine are yours. The bell vine is not hardy to my knowledge. I think I only have one of each of those, so if there's more interest, I'll see if I have seeds to spare n share.

I'd love to try your angelica and probably the hollyhocks and yucca.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Thanks! I'm bringing 3 good bundles of sedum cuttings, and assuming I can get out there eventually to dig it, I'll be bringing all the chocolate mint and KY Colonel spearmint anybody can stand (seriously, it needs thinning out). I think I had you down for a pot of Greek Oregano, also. :-)

Wrightie, I just posted something on the lunch thread for you but I'm not sure if you're "watching" it, so here's a link: http://davesgarden.com/forums/p.php?pid=3592895

Cross your fingers that the thunderstorm doesn't wipe out my little peppers, basils, etc... or suddenly there will not be quite so many "spares" to bring... so far, I haven't heard any hail.

Middle of, VA(Zone 7a)

Yes, this weather is kicking my plans in the behind...just spent the last hour pulling cactus in...and getting plumies off the railing...I would so cry if they fell and broke a branch/tip...whew!!! Checked the moonflowers....none are above soil...but whaaa whooo....they're making roots!!! I'll be bringing those tomorrow. I guess everything that needed pulled/dug will be done in the AM....ugh...I'm so NOT a morning person!!!

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Hart, your comment about old fashioned hollyhocks has me thinking... I had one lone survivor from a mix of single hollyhocks that I planted ('Happy Lights' maybe?), and it bloomed last year... I loved it, but I was very surprised to see what seemed to be the same plant (not seedlings, truly in the exact same spot) coming up again this spring! It's already getting some buds on it. I will be a very happy camper if it's perennial, as it's really lovely... deep, velvety magenta-maroon color...

Here it is with some friends:

I hear you, Chantell... I think I may check with Bobbie and see if she's OK with targeting our arrival an hour late at 11:30... otherwise, I think I'll have to get up with the chickens!

Metro DC, MD(Zone 7a)

Critter, that's a very pretty hollyhock. While in England last month, I picked up seeds for a Black hollyhock... maybe we can work out a seed trade at some point, if that interests you at all? I'll go check out that lunch link in a sec'. I was going to make a cake, but it hasn't happened yet!

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Happy and I have an extra food contribution covered (she's bringing bread, I'm bringing pesto spread), so no need to fuss with a cake tonight... get some rest!

Seed trade would be fine... my seeds from last fall look like some sort of weevil got at them; lots of them have teeny little holes. I thought I'd have time to sort out and pack up seeds to bring along tomorrow, but they're still all jumbled in my living room... I'll have to mail anything that somebody wants from my stash! LOL

Brunswick, MD(Zone 6b)

Wrightie, I'd like some of the Evergreen Clematis armandii and
Sweet Autumn Clematis terniflora cuttings please. Here's my list for you to pick something from. http://davesgarden.com/forums/p.php?pid=3530528

Jill, barely got the wings done before the storm, dragged all the plants indoors to label then put back outside so the storm didn't do to much to my plans, but I'm still way behind. I'm up for a later start if you are. Let me know what time.

Sorry to rush off, but I still have to make the Hummus.

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

Thanks for heads up on storm!! I stuck my bins inside the van so they wouldn't gett all messy and wiegh an extra ton

Metro DC, MD(Zone 7a)

Mia, I'll put you down for both clematis. Also, I noticed that you're looking for redbud saplings. Can I interest you in some redbud seeds from last fall? For the heck of it I did sow one of them over the winter and had success, but I'd like to keep it for myself. I'm happy to give you some of those seeds if you'd like them though.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Miata, you've got mail... let's touch base around 8 and see where we're at. :-)

I'm trying to get some of my plants packed into boxes rather than flats -- boxes can be stacked!

Sterling, VA(Zone 6b)

Got my stuff all gathered up...see you guys..err...gals tomorrow!!

Hart, I just looked at the bell vine seed packet (select seeds). It says that it is a perennial grown as an annual. I also recall seeing a comment on a photo in the plant files listing noting that a pic' was taken after a hard frost... so maybe it is somewhat hardy.

Metro DC, MD(Zone 7a)

I've run out of Edits for the day. Here's that above-referenced picture: http://davesgarden.com/pf/showimage/137026/

Brunswick, MD(Zone 6b)

Wrightie, sure I'll take a few redbud seeds. Hope I have as much luck as you did. Sometimes it is much more satisfying when you grow something from seed.

Fredericksburg, VA(Zone 7a)

Don't know if anyone is still up, but I know y'all will be checking in tomorrow morning.... Wrightie, I too, would take a couple of the 'Broken Colors' Four O'Clocks if you will still have any to share.

See y'all tomorrow!!!

Karen

Middle of, VA(Zone 7a)

"...if anyone is still up?"...LOL - making labels...ugh...and still haven't dug anything up....morning will be here early!!

Brunswick, MD(Zone 6b)

I'm still up, just unwinding with a glass of wine before I head off to bed now. Hope I can turn of the list checker in my brain for the night. Cheers!

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

Still up, Got plants in car before the storm rolled thru. Chicken, Teriyaki Barbeque Sauce and eggs are done. (So am I).
Ric works 2nd shift so he won't be home for another 1/2 hr. It's going to be an early and very exciting day. Man am I looking forward to meeting everyone.

Chevy Chase, MD(Zone 7a)

Still up here (yawn).

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Good morning!

I wasn't up quite as late as Happy, but I know just what Miata means about trying to turn off the list-checker in my brain, LOL.

I'm headed out to the driveway bed with my digger stick -- gonna dig up some Chocolate Mint! :-)

Chevy Chase, MD(Zone 7a)

Well, you beat me! I slept in! I got my Krossa Regals dug -- don't know who's in worse shape - -them or me!

Strasburg, VA(Zone 6b)

my apologies to everyone i had plants for...i wish i could have brought them to you, but my husband has decided to actually listen to the dr's advice on me doing "nothing"...he doesn't listen nearly so well when the advice is being given to him!

Chevy Chase, MD(Zone 7a)

We really missed you, and I believe a nice big pile of plants has been set aside for you. I hope you are feeling better. We had a great time, and Hart outdid herself. A wonderful time was had by all. More later. I am heading for a nice warm bath.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

You were missed! We were all so sorry to hear you were ill, and we sure hope you're feeling better soon!

A "hartfelt" THANK YOU to Diane for hosting such a wonderful event! It was fun to put faces to names, to visit and chat, and to come home with so many garden treasures. :-)

I kept commenting to Miata on the way home that I'd been relatively restrained in choosing plants, only taking ones I knew I had places for, etc... and she kept giving me this look, doubtless remembering all the plants she helped me haul down and stuff into the car for the return trip... I tried to explain that the plants that were going to my mom in Pittsburgh or my MIL in NC didn't count, LOL, but I don't think she considered that "restraint" LOL. Come to think of it, I'll still be planting them all.... :-)

Metro DC, MD(Zone 7a)

Hart, thank you, thank you, thank you for hosting such a fun (& fruitful!) day. What a pretty part of the world you live in.

Larlienda, I'm sorry that you're not feeling well and did not make it. I do hope that you are on the mend and able to plant your mountain o' goodies soon!

Happy, now I know how you got your name. What a fun day. Thanks so much for letting me hitch a ride. I'm looking forward to many more Gardening Get-Togethers seeing that we're practically neighbors and all. Hey, once I get them in the ground, I'd be happy to show you my P-Toes... if you show me yours.

Thank you so much to everyone for your generosity today. I had a great first Swap and look forward to seeing you all again. I'm sure that I will have lots of questions and comments about my new plants, so don't be surprised when you see my D-Mails show up in your inboxes.

xoxo
