Does anyone want Walking Onion? My plants (new last year) have big bulbils at the tops now that can be broken off and planted, and I'd be happy to bring some. If the tops get bent over to the ground, the bulbils -- some of which are sprouting already -- will take root and form new plants, so over time this plant can "walk" itself across your garden, hence the name. Critter, I might be interested in that, I will have to ask Ric if he wants them. I think the two of you would have a lot to talk about at the swap.

Fredericksburg, VA(Zone 7a)

Question for you guys and gals coming to the swap... as it has been proven in the past, your HD's have more selection than mine in F'burg. Would you all mind checking to see if any have gotten in any potted plumerias? A little bird told me that you can sometimes find one relatively inexpensive, during the summer months, probably in the tropicals section. I checked mine of course, and even asked.... but was met with the catatonic stare, and the question, "What's a plumeria?"

Chantell attempted to help me into my first cutting experience, but apparantly, I'm not too good at it! (Sorry Chantell...)

If one of you happens to find one available and it's not too expensive, I would pay for it at the swap. Just let me know what you find... and as always...

Thanks!

Karen

Shenandoah Valley, VA

Karen, check the classifieds forum here. Somebody had plumeria plants on sale.

Fredericksburg, VA(Zone 7a)

Thanks Diane! I'mstill not used to all the ins and outs of DG!

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

It looks like I've got about a flat of extra basils (12 Italian,12 Sicilian, 6 Lime (some for Hart), plus a few Minette, Salad Leaf, and Red Bordeaux).... I hope that's not too many to bring, but they're easy to tuck around, and they're nice to have on hand. I was pretty sure I'd have extras, but I didn't want to promise them in case slugs or bunnies gobbled up the ones I planted out recently. :-)

My extra cherry tomatoes (and the few remaining regular ones) are looking pretty sad... I confess that none of them got up-potted, so they're rootbound, and last Sunday's soaking rain caused their lower leaves to go a bit yellow. However, if you plant them in a shallow trench (at an angle, rootball at the lowest point and most of the stem buried also), I think they will come around, so I'll bring some.

Happy, it looks like I'll have a few extra chile peppers for you -- how many did you want? 3? 6? And did you want any of the ultra-hot habanero varieties? I can bring you an assortment of them: Chocolate Habanero, Red Savina, Francesca (orange), and Fatalii (lemon yellow). I think I have 2 extras of each type of hab, and one set has been spoken for by a friend who's a true chile-head.

Larlienda, it sounds like Gita has you covered on the Black-Eyed Susans (Rudbeckia)... If I have time, I'll dig a few extras, but I still need to dig your purple obedience plant and not-choc-daisy, so I'll do those first.

Chevy Chase, MD(Zone 7a)

Critter: I'd be grateful for an assortment of peppers, but smashed together in one pot or rolled up in paper towel is fine -- don't go to any trouble. 3 (or less) of the chili's would be pure bliss.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Ummm, the peppers are in deep cell packs... I'm not going to smash them into anything, LOL. I put a 6-pack with 4 'Serrano del Sol', 1 (probably) 'Bulgarian Carrot', and 1 'Red Savina' (habanero) into the pile just now, so you should be fine selecting from those.

If anybody wants an assortment of habaneros as mentioned above, please let me know... otherwise I'll give them away locally (Jim's friend would love doubles of them, I'm sure).

Chevy Chase, MD(Zone 7a)

Critter: I'm in heaven! Thanks!

Middle of, VA(Zone 7a)

Critter - I'll be happy to take any "extra" peppers...our family thrives on mexican food...oh yeah!!
Sally - only if you have enough - I noticed someone mentioning the Creeping Phlox - I seem to be the only human that hasnt' been able to grow this plant...very sad, I know.
Karen - did the cutting not make it? Mine still doesn't have roots...don't give up on it unless it's mush.

Chevy Chase, MD(Zone 7a)

Chantell: I am no good with creeping phlox either. I am beginning to think it needs more water than I give it.

Brunswick, MD(Zone 6b)

I've got 3 pots of jalapeno peppers / 2 plants per pot / that I'll be begging for someone to take off my hands.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Oh good -- they'll go nicely with the extra serrano pepper plants that I have! LOL

I was just outside dividing and potting up bits of low growing creeping thymes... There's a fuzzy-leafed lavender-flowered one that I think might be mother-of-thyme (no label, shame on me), coconut thyme (T. praecox), and Translucent Golden Thyme. I've got an assorted 6-pack that could be split into 2 trades (like having 3 two inch pots), plus another trio in pint containers.

While digging for the golden thyme, I discovered that some sedum snuck into that border and needed to be pulled before it started crowding out the thyme. It's a low-growing, quick-spreading one with small pointed leaves and yellow blooms... I got a little pot of it 2 years ago, and it has spread to about 6 square feet, right in the hottest, driest part of the yard (the little rock garden by the mail box)... Hart, it might be a good one for your hillside if you've got a sunnier part. I didn't pull up much in the way of roots with it, so I treated the sedum like cuttings and divided them into 3 baggies with wet paper towels.

Shenandoah Valley, VA

The sedum sounds perfect, Critter. It sounds like the stuff that I had at my old house and that was tough as nails and spread very nicely. Yes, I have lots of sunny parts on the slope too.

Creeping phlox - I think it's more likely you overwatered rather than underwatered it. It was thriving here on my hillside next to the road, which is the moisture equivalent of growing on the surface of the moon. LOL Was growing until the stupid VDOT mowing guy a couple of years ago managed to plow rather than mow that hillside and scraped everything down to bare dirt. Now where the phlox was growing I have a lovely assortment of weeds.

I also see the wild version growing in the forest perched up between rocks on mountainsides. It's a very drought tolerant plant.

Danville, VA(Zone 7a)

Hi Everyone,
For sure I have 3 white crape myrtles One is for Sally.
I also have about 4 purple passion flowers that I will pot tonight this one does bear fruit.. I am not sure the name as it was given to me.
I can dig up some hostas that are green and white if anyone wants any please let me know as I am leaving tomorrow...
I also have some house plants if you want any philo's Brasil. also have a cactus named red dragon that I can bring one or two cuttings from, also have what my neice called a tooth pick cactus. I dont have a clue about these last two...LOL sorry...
I am trying to find things to bring so going outside now and if anybody wants let me know ok so I can pot up...
Sue....

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

I'd love a Brasil philo! Mine got munched by mealie bugs over the winter... Fortunately, it was just the one pot that was all alone in the living room that got infested (don't you wonder sometimes where they come from?).

Danville, VA(Zone 7a)

ok do you want me to pot it or put it in paper towel that is wet and bring? Dont think I can get any roots but hey one will try :-) Is yours.. :-)
Sue

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Wet paper towel and baggie works just fine for me! That's the way I'm bringing a bunch of different cuttings... maybe you'll find something you'll like in exchange (like 'Tricolor' wandering jew, perhaps?). Thanks!

Danville, VA(Zone 7a)

I also have another one that is green and white but I dont know the name of that one, do you want some cutting from that?
Susan

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Sure! I think I had a variegated white and green pothos in that pot and lost it also... 'Marble Queen' I think?

I honestly can't tell the difference between trailing philodendrons and pothos, especially with some varieties... I've got one from a former neighbor that she said was a philodendron, but it sure looks like a green pothos I had in Chicago (and it's tough as nails).

I've got a green and white variegated wandering jew also that I need to remember to get cuttings from tomorrow... :-)

If nothing else on my "haves" list tempts you, maybe you'd like a curly spider plant baby? I think I might have one potted up downstairs....

Danville, VA(Zone 7a)

I have both of those you mentioned, and to tell you the truth I have not looked at many of the haves of anyone... I really did not want to get my hopes up to high that I was going in case I could not go... But hey I'm on my way tomorrow so watch out everyone here I come...LOLOLOL
Cutting is yours... I will look at your want list ok? but hey dont worry about it... I am just thrilled to go and meet everyone... yeahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh...
Susan

Chevy Chase, MD(Zone 7a)

Susan -- please look at my wants list too. I'm bringing tons, but if anyone wants anything specific I'd be so much happier to know in advance so I can be prepared.

Danville, VA(Zone 7a)

Can you kinda point me in the direction of where that is? On first thread or second? LOL
Sue

Chevy Chase, MD(Zone 7a)

Susan: See if this will do it: http://davesgarden.com/forums/p.php?pid=3486706

Danville, VA(Zone 7a)

That did it and thank you....LOL WOW what lists all of you have... I am not fussy and I am not even sure of what some of these things are so surprise me :-) I have lots of open space so there is never to much... :-)
I cant remember now but someone mentioned a Jade for me if I wanted it... If you still have it to give I would love it... I have a Red Dragon cactus if you would like some of that is very easy to grow, for if I did not kill it yet I dont think you would... LOL
Hey ladies did I say how excited I am???? I am going to bed now for work kicked my butt today so I will check back tomorrow if anyone wants anything just let me know and then I am off until Sunday.... Or if I cant sleep I will be back to read later..LOLOLOL
Susan

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

Susan, I'll put you on my list for the Ornamental Sweet Potatoes.

Danville, VA(Zone 7a)

Thank you Holly and goodnight.. maybe...LOL I am to darn hyped up.....
Susan

Chevy Chase, MD(Zone 7a)

We are going to have fun!

Danville, VA(Zone 7a)

We sure are Bobbie :-) Hey I am in a pickle...LOL I want to bring my camera to take pic's of us and then again I want to leave it home so when my plumerias bloom which you know for sure they are going to because I am not going to be home my MIL can take pictures of those for me... So I think I am going to buy a camera from WM and leave that with my MIL and me take the good one.. :-)
SUsan

Middle of, VA(Zone 7a)

Ahh Susan..you did find this thread!!! I'll be bringing my camera - as I'm sure others will...so pics will be taken if you didn't want to have to buy another one.

Shenandoah Valley, VA

Susan you asked about pussytoes. Not like pussy willow except the "toes" are similar but it's a very low growing, very drought tolerant plant. In the spring you get the fuzzy little blooms that look like pussy toes. Some people use it as a groundcover.

There's oodles of it here and you're welcome to as much as you want.

http://www.robsplants.com/plants/AntenDioic.php not a very good picture

http://www.geocities.com/porterbrooknativeplants/images/Antennariavirginica.jpg good picture of the leaves

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

OK, looks like I'm going to have to get out the big digging fork to get up those purple obedient plants... but nearly everything else on my list has been dug and potted, and I'm getting the flats of plants on my deck sorted out so I know which ones go to the swap. :-)

Lynda, if you're digging and dividing those hostas, I'd be glad to take a few extras down to my MIL at the end of the month... but don't dig them just on my account.

Chevy Chase, MD(Zone 7a)

Critter -- I also have some very plain hostas that I use as background -- they are large and fairly flat. Nothing to write home about, as it were. Your MIL doesn't need anything like that, does she?

Shenandoah Valley, VA

Chantell, that's too pink.

Critter, I have plenty of obedient plant "Vivid" and it's nothing to pull up. Don't worry about digging yours.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

OK, then I'll skip it... I think somebody else mentioned having purple obedient plant also... I guess I should've pulled it up after the last good rain!

Happy, a couple of plain green "background" hostas might not be a bad idea... but I won't really know what sort of filler or background material we need until we get everything else in, so maybe no more than 3 divisions so I can be sure of finding spots for them... And if you've got your hands full digging and packing everything else, feel free to skip the plain hostas entirely... You're bringing me sooo much already!!

Thanks!

Chevy Chase, MD(Zone 7a)

Critter -- I am way behind on my plant packing, so I might wait on the big ones -- unless someone else wants them as well. I'm planning on getting up early tomorrow to catch up-- the office beckons today. You are close enough to me that I can bring them to you anytime. I plant to move a whole bunch of them shortly because some are in the wrong place, so that would be a good time to do it. But if I get inspired, I'll do it tomorrow morning.

They hold down weeds very nicely and create a tight green impenetrable ground cover (though they are fairly large hostas). The reseed or are stoloniferous (not sure which) until they get tightly packed. So they are a nice backdrop. Solid green.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Just hold off on them, then. As you said, I can get them from you any time... and if we wait, I'll have a better idea of what sort of "filler" is needed down there... I can ship her a box of additional goodies later! :-)

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

This is late to mention, but if anybody wants a home for halfway decent pots in the 5-10 inch range, I'll take. I try to renew plants for school media center each summer then try to give some away. Anthing better than the really cheap black nursery pots is fine. Just thought I'd throw that out there.
Along with that, I'll try some new houseplant cuttings, anything But Marble queen and variegated spider. Can give those.
Lots of people confuse pothos and philo, that seems to be an old die hard mistake.
Did you all get a look at the # views on that first thread??? (2557 +)
Going out to dig before the heat- I ll be checking back

Chevy Chase, MD(Zone 7a)

SallyG -- I've been freecycling pots, which has been a great source, but all I get are the nursery pots. You might want to try that, though.
