Hey threegardeners,
some of them do get put in jail. However, as to whether or not their education progresses while the kids are in jail - that's just a crapshoot. Someday they get out of jail, and then they may not have the means or education to support themselves. As bad as they can get, they are still kids and they still need to be taught. Unfortunately for many of them, the apple does not fall far from the tree so the support they get from their family to turn their lives around is often spotty to nonexistant. I am told that the need for new prisons is based on the reading scores of third graders (from k-3 you learn to read, 4-the rest of your education you read to learn) - so apparently the government would rather pay for more prison beds than to really seek out effective ways to improve education. I think the families of these kids should have more consequences - I think parents would be more 'hands on' and effectively concerned if they had to suffer consequences with the kids. Schools in general have to beg, and sometimes hound, parents to be involved with their own childrens education.

Hey, speaking of prison, allgr8dogs... do you live in/near Maricopa County? I've heard about the sheriff's new prison system there...lol

OK It is now officially too late to send your card in. I'm getting ready to make the first call.

I'll come back and post a link to the new thread when it's ready. :o)
