Glad to see you joined, Susan! ;o)

Looks like we're going to have a good-sized group, after all! I was worried there might be too many going on vacations and such.

Tomorrow is the proposed start date. Everyone good with starting tomorrow? Does anyone need extra time to get their card in?

Now Gail, don't you get too busy and forget to send it in! :o)

Like I said, we can wait if anyone needs an extra day. :o)

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

i work better under pressure, Janet!!!! My card will be in before midnight tonight (LOL)

It's not too late to join at all! I don't want anyone's blood pressure rising with worry about getting their card in. If you need an extra day, just let me know and we'll start on Sunday. :o) I'll post here before I start the new thread for calls letting everyone know time's up for getting cards in.

The Heart of Texas, TX(Zone 8b)

Perhaps starting MOnday morning would be good for everyone...since the weekends are so busy for families????

MsC

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Monday sounds good to me as I have to be away most of tomorrow and Sunday....what does everyone else think???
then we probably will get more than 1 call day............won't this be fun..............rushing through June in only 3 weeks!!!!!!!

Monday is fine with me. I had picked Saturday so we would be sure not to run into July at the end of the game, but anytime is fine with me. And I like to make extra calls anyway. :o) Chime in with opinions, and majority rules! :o)

The Heart of Texas, TX(Zone 8b)

Well, we are all kinda "crazy" anyway so who cares if it runs into July this time???

I'll be checking in no matter...

MsC

True, so true...LOL

(Zone 1)

Hey! We could have an on-going Bingo that runs through the rest of the summer! Pick 75 from the list! hee hee .... :)

I still am getting my card together!

You, Lin, are a mess! LOL A whole mess of fun! :o)

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Jackie, you just need to pick 15 from the list in the third post in this thread, and dmail the list to cjolene http://davesgarden.com/members/cjolene/ with "June Bingo" in the Subject line.

Key, thank you for explaining that to Jackie. I tunnel-visioned on her asking if it was too late to join and completely overlooked her statement that she wasn't clear on what to do.

Jackie, I apologize for that. If you need more help, just let us know. Glad to have you playing Bingo with us! :o)

Just thought I should refresh everyone's memory that general consensus is to wait til Monday to begin the game. Don't want anyone yelling at me about when I'm gonna make the first call. LOL I'll edit the initial posts to reflect this change.

That also means you have til late Sunday/early Monday to get your cards in, so if you've been lurking and procrastinating, here's your chance to leave those bad habits behind. ;o) You've got plenty of time, so come on and join us!

Emporia, KS(Zone 5b)

I won't be checking my dmail Sunday... I'm telling everyone just so people don't expect me to confirm that I've gotten it that day. But on Monday I'll see what date you've sent it in and confirm then. ; )

Phoenix, AZ(Zone 9b)

Thanks Keyring, I spaz out a little bit when I'm not sure of what to do. Also thanks for the seeds you sent me.

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Oh, welcome Jackie to a fun game
gail
PS...love your expression of being 'spazzed out'.............we are, too, and we have played this game....you will be real comfortable! (LOL)

Phoenix, AZ(Zone 9b)

I work with ED kids, and I describe their out-of-control behavior as a melt down - when they manage to gross me out they say they've made me 'spaz'

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Do they call special education ED now?? I taught children with very high intellegence but not functioning at grade level due to various challenges....

Last chance, everyone! We're starting in the morning, so get those cards in soon! :o)

Crosbyton, TX(Zone 7a)

rain do i send my card to you?

No, please send it to cjolene. http://davesgarden.com/members/cjolene/ That way, I don't see anyone's card, so I don't know who picked what. :o) So happy you're playing!

Phoenix, AZ(Zone 9b)

No, special ed is still special ed. ED stands for emotionally disabled - used to be call emotionally disturbed. Several of my kids (6th, 7th and 8th grade) last year either had assault charges or pending assault charges, were on probation, had drug problems, were in group homes, one was in his 26th foster home. By definition these are students of normal intelligence whose learning is impaired because of persistent, severe behavior problems. While all kids will occasionally have behavior that affects their ability to learn, these kids' behavior is not only severe, but persistent far beyond that of the average child. The severity of their behavior is also part of the criterion for an ED diagnosis. One student had stabbed his former foster mom with a steak knife, another tried to run over his grandfather with the family car. Another student was in the program after sharing drugs with friends at school - the friends ended up spending several days in intensive care. The student who 'shared' didn't feel he was responsible because, 'Hey man, we all know the risk. ' The kids who were in intensive care were 11 and 12 years old - fortunately they recovered. A couple of my students were in my class because they had previously assaulted teachers; one teacher ended up with a broken wrist, another had her cheekbone and part of her eyesocket crushed as well as receiving multitudes of stitches. While the average student may get mouthy with a teacher, many of these kids have previously physically assaulted teachers. A sixth grade student was in my classroom because of sex offenses toward lower grade students (last year we had 3 students who were sex offenders).

When all is said and done though, these are still kids who need an education. I can honestly say that I am never bored, they keep me on my toes. and the personal payoff for me - when a kid says,'I get it!' - is still a rush. That is the moment that keeps me trying, even when they've blasted me with the F-bomb all day, thrown chairs and desk, and cried because noone wants them.....

sex offenses, stabbings, assaults....maybe they should be in jail....????

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

That is so honorable of you to work with these kids.....they have never had a chance in life..............just to be accepted by one teacher can change their life forever!!! Can you even imagine the rage they carry inside because of all their abandonment issues. God bless you for a job I loved my self!!!! Love and acceptance is the most powerful force in the world.
My favorite charities are the prison ministry and Habitat for Humanity......my very favorite person in prison I see and write is a 29 year young man who was wandering the streets of the inner city and on drugs at age 12 just trying to survive on his own. He and a friend robbed a 7-11with a gun at age 14......because the state of Texas treat children like adults.........they held him over in juvenile jail until he was 17, tried him as an adult and he won't be eligible for parole for another 17 years. His birthday was in May and all he wanted were 4 books.....TJ Jakes (the best African American minister in Dallas), and 3 other spiritually inspiring books. He certainly doesn't belong in prison for something he did as a child of the streets when he was 14. He is totally rehabilitated and even has a lot of self esteem........graduated in prison from high school as the valedictorian of his class.
Oh, I could really get on a soapbox about what our government does and doesn't do for the youth of our country...Texas just uses prison for everything from drug addiction, etc.....
If I can find a special power point that someone sent me recently I will send it to you if you will dmail me with your email address. I sent it to a good friend who is superintendent of a school district.....she wrote me back and said I had just solved what she needed for the opening orientation of all teachers in August 2007....

I realize that this thread is not for stories, but please allow me just this one post.....
