resizing pictures option for posting

Northeast, LA(Zone 8a)

Dave , One feature I would really love for posting photos would be an automatic resize option. Something like in personal preferences , resize my photos to 800x 600 ( have several options here) when adding to a post. Having an option in preferences at say 800x600 when I am posting pictures on a thread instead of having to copy and resize in a photo edit program would definitely encourage me to do more plant file photos.. I don't know if this is making sense or possible. Anyway I would love to be able to hit the browse box , find my picture hit preview and have a reasonable size photo posted for all to see.

Unless you have some thing really wierd, that is what happens. The system at Daves garden automatically resizes to fit. The only one that could be a problem is a very small size. I have not tried all formats, but it works with all jpg. I have not made any adjustments to my photos for davesgarden.

Oh, no, you mean I've been doing all that manual resizing for nothing? lol

It's still a good idea to manually resize it down, so that it doesn't take a very long time to upload it. Pictures straight out of the digital camera are massive and would take several minutes to upload. By resizing it you make the upload process much easier on yourself.

Yes, I had forgotten why I decided to resize mine. For one thing, I remember being on dial-up and trying to view images!

I take my photos at high resolution and usually resample/resize to 800 x 600, or smaller if I crop.

I take from your answer Dave that there is not a way to have this as a preference on upload.. I always resize to 800x600 for dialup . This reduce doesn't sacrifice quality but allows dialup to view it without waiting forever.

Riverland, no, it's not something that's changeable via preference - it's "on" for everyone.

Thanks can't have everything. The better everything gets the less we appreciate it. I do appreciate all the improvements.

Is it possible that the system of automatically resize doesn't work with my pictures ? I got some complaints from people with dial-up systems that my pictures are so slow to open.

That is why I resize. The automatic resize(whatever it is) is way too large a file for people to download. 800 x600 seems to be a good middle of the road.

I still don't understand why other people pictures open fast and mine slow if all the pictures are automatically resized to the same standard?

Other people are using a lower resolution when they take the picture or they are resizing it before sending it. Inexpensive or older cameras use a low megapixel to create the picture. Your Camera is probably using a 6 meg or higher to create pictures. This is ajustable on most cameras. My cameras best setting is 8 meg. I use the 8 meg because I want great detail in my pictures. That makes a large file to try to download for most people on dial up. Thats why I resize the pictures before I upload them to Daves.
