We have a 50% chance too. Even better on Sunday.
Lets all go out and water...it used to work.
Time For A Rain Dance - Part 2
Curiosity has the better of me. Being from the country and a small farm we used to have a saying. If you killed a snake and hung it up, it would rain. We'd constantly find black snakes in the chicken house or somewhere else they weren't supposed to be. Some of you probably call them rat or chicken snakes actually.
Now maybe it was chance... but every time... every time it would always rain after we killed one and hung it up. Sure smelled after a few days though, LOL.
I'm wondering if that was something localized, or if anyone else around the state has heard of it? My wife is from the north and she gave my family the strangest look the first time we told her that. In fact, it seems she thinks a lot of our sayings are strange. LOL
It was used in Virginia in 30's 40's and 50's along with a lot of others that were supposed to bring rain. Signs of desperation tho. It usuaully rains sometime, just not in time for the crops.
let's all cheer for BAR-RY, BAR-RY, BAR-RY. Bring it home Barry boy.
Oh! It's got a name? Go Barry! Come on up! (Dont' get too big and strong, Barry!)
Deb
Alright! I just told DH about the 100% chance and he said, "Well, there's always a 50% chance they're wrong."
(Kill-joy.)

60% chance now.. and up to 2 INCHES!!
YEAH BUDDY!!!! were gonna get some rain, y'all!!!!!
i heard that by the time it comes up here, it will be like, tuesday er somethin. thats the day we get out of school and me and some of my friends were plannin on goin' to port royal, shipyard, or seapines right after school. once the part that would be the eye (if it were a hurricane) gets up here, it will be making lots of rip currents and all that stuff. did yall hear 'bout he guy that died in a rip current off coligny beach on HHI? i guess we'll just have to not get in the water. thats just a small sacrifice to pay for the much needed more-precious-than-gold liquid that will fall from the skies. i guess we'll just have to find some tourists our age and hook up w/ 'em
its gonna go right on top of us!!!!!!!!
Diehard!!!!!! You know there are a bunch of mothers on this forum!!!!! No hooking up with tourists please, go plant petunias or something. LOL
it's RAINING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yahoo!!!!!!!!! Now I can give my back a rest from hauling out buckets of used sink and bathtub water............ Hope ya'll are getting some of this strange stuff coming out of the sky too............
Rain Gauge says 6/10ths of an inch so far!!!!!!!!!!! and its suppose to keep it up all day!!!!
Thanks Barry!

We're hoping here...Thinking good thoughts, thinking good thoughts...
Maybe we should be hopping istead:)
Bev
The best part is that it has been coming down so gently for several hours now. No runoff at all, everydrop is being absorbed; if it does start coming down in buckets the soil is ready for it. Woo Hoo, I'm ready for it too. The dog came in all muddy and I just smiled, grinned really.
I am happy for you all, but sure wish some of it could cross the river. Nary a drop here. Just cool and cloudy.
A little drizzle now and then at the beach. Not enough for anything but we will get it later today or tomorrow.
Bring it on!
We need it bad also. Here rain
Lavina
Still nothing here yet either... but it's coming, slowly.
LMae-You have d-mail.
Bev
Oooh! I love that picture, X! Big green blob headed for us! (RDU on the map) It must be near...dog starting to whine.
Bev
Just under an inch here. Woo Hoo!!!!!
It is coming down nicely now but the sky is getting lighter. Hoping it is just a tiny break in the system.
This morning, in the rain, I was out spreading some dry organic fertilizer on the garden. I'd been waiting for a rainy day to get this stuff out, it was really smelly and I needed to get it washed in or the neighbors would ride me out of town on a rail.
It's really coming down now, 2.8".
Only 1.6" here but that's just fine! Nice and steady.
ardesia: well what else are tourists good for? lol jk
but yeah the only bad thing we gotta worry bout now is 'squiters coming out from every puddle of stagnant water and feasting on us while we work in our yards! (mosquitos. i didnt want to spell it skeeters cuz.... but it would make for easier pronunciation)
oh yeah and by "hooking up" i mreant hanging out with; not anything nasty... im above stuff like that)

Hey Deb, ardesia...What a day! While the TV weatherpeople lament the "loss" of a week-end, I'm jumping for joy! If any of you out there are interested in strangling weather forecasters, sign me up! We've only gotten an inch and a half so far, but it's come slowly and lightly...relatively little run-off,,,just what we needed! We may survive the global warming "crisis" yet... I kinda like ol' "Barry"...
really?? yall only have that much! i have about 3"... its poured all day here. we have flood advisories out for the island and Bluffton. i wonder why yall have gotten so much less.
Stono: Ain't it grand?!!
I just checked the gauge and it's just above 2.5" for the day and still raining. :)
This is one weekend I'm happy to have "lost".
And Diehrd, I hope you're wrong bout the 'squiters.
Deb
yeah me too, just down here its almost inevitable... but lets pray im wrong
It's raining and the frogs are singing!!!!!
We wound up with a bit over 3 1/2" and it is still drizzling. I heard on the news that Bluffton had the highest amount of rainfall; I believe they said 5", lucky you diehard!
Lots of branches down around here but what a small price to pay for that beautiful rain.
Its started about 6 last night and has rained slow all night. Wonderful
Lavina
really?!? the rain guage says about 3.5" like you. maybe they were talking about downtown, and not the 278/buckwalter area. the guage is also near a w. robusta tree, so maybe the leaves on ot caught some of the rain (that was the bet place to it on our patio). we had some of our pine trees lose their branches, but i dont like the pines, so i dont really care... just something to keep me occupied n the yard tomorrow, cleaning up the branches
Chapel Hill report: I was at a party last night and we were all sitting outside on the deck in a light drizzle around 8PM!!!! It felt good. Our gauges say 1.25 - 1.5", but now it looks like there won't be much more.
Have to go pick up the hollyhocks, the gauras, the tomatoes.
The rain in my n'hood has slacked up a bit now. Just a drizzle, but the winds have picked up a bit. Gusting some. NOW the pine limbs will come down. :)
Deb
Edited to add , if anyone's familiar with the move "The Money Pit", well......"We have weak trees." ;->

Thank you for the rain dance! We had around 3". Nice slow drizzle all day Saturday then a downpour Saturday night. We call it a "frog strangler". What do you call it?
I call it a "frog stangler", BSD---a term I learned in Texas. We had about 2.5" of VERY beneficial rain at my place. About 6-8 hours of incessant drizzle that amounted to less than 3/4" over 12 hours, then a steady downpour for 1/2 hr that added 2" to softened soil---so it could be absorbed, rather than run off---See Jim Smile, smile Jim smile... a 4''Zucchini on Friday became a 16" on Sunday. Scary in some ways...
If your zucchini grew that fast it is probably a good thing you don't have kudzu growing in your garden.
