Okay, so there may be a few times in there, but I have
hit a milestone in my life.
As we moved to the country when the kids were still small,
I have had to drive them to the next town, where they began
school, friends, etc.
The local school, let's just say it wasn't for my kids, so I took
on the task of driving them to school every single day in
the next county. Not a dash down the street, by the time I got ready,
went to town and came back home, it used up about an hour. Come three
o'clock, I had to do it all over again.
For the past twelve years I have driven kids back and forth.
And now I'm done.
Yesterday, the 'baby' of the bunch acquired his driver's license.
Now while it does not eliminate the worry, it does mean I gain
back two hours a day of my life. Two hours a day five days a week
is ten hours. A full day of the week.
I'm gaining a full day out of the week. Can you imagine what life
will be like for me now? Time to shave my legs? Time to shampoo
carpets, paint the bedrooms, organize, have yard sales, this is
going to be fantastic! Heck, I may even get back into cooking!
Wise guy with a license said "Looks like your nest is getting emptier
by the day."
:-o
No more driving to school every day! EVER AGAIN!
That was quite a commitment on your part...dedicated Mother for sure..not many who would undertake such a responsibility...hopefully your children know the sacrifice you've made for them...empty nest..made you sad I bet..but you are right..look at all the wonderful things you'll get to do for yourself...soooo what will you do with your very 1st day off??? waiting with baited breath..sure hope it's geared ONLY to something you want to do...lol
I can imagine that it is a big relief for you in some ways. It will be nice to have the extra time for yourself. More gardening, bubble bath, extra cup of coffee and the list can go on and on. Congrats to you.
Congratulations! Two hours of actual time translates into at least four since it means not having to drop everything to stop and go. No more worry about starting something because you would have to drop it in the middle to go pick them up again. These milestones in life are well worth celebrating! Enjoy, Enjoy, Enjoy!!!
Even better will be when hubby gets a job, LOL. He's
been out of work searching after a recent political move
at work. *Cough*
His last job was just down the street, so here is how
my day went for years:
Get up, make coffee, tend to immediate pet matters such as
three or four cats standing there looking at me as though I know
the rules. Feed us, then tend to yourself.
Pick up a few things, answer the phone, try to get dressed. At
the time both boys were home, there was no hope for the bathroom.
Two teenaged boys primp as much as girls do.
Take kids to town, grocery shop while I'm there (may as well) come
back home, unload groceries, begin cleaning house, packing orders, etc.
At noon, here comes hubby for lunch. Stop everything and feed him.
One o'clock comes, I'm alone again, but now I'm running two hours behind.
Get started on something and two hours later I have to go back to town.
Get the kids, come home, and one hour later, hubby comes back home
from work.
Using harsh terms, it sucked. Never time for me. I was the last on the list
always. No time for pretty clothes. I was doing yard work. As soon as I began
yardwork, I had to go back to town, and you know how I was dressed. The
funny thing is, I had to pack orders, which involved going to the post office.
And do you think I had time to shower before heading for town? No, because
as soon as I got back I had more work to do.
Ugh. I love my kids, and I love hubby, but I'm ready for some quality alone
time to get something done (completed and finished) for a change.
And some time to comb my hair, wear a dress and tend to myself would
be nice, too. :-)
Sounds like you are ready for all these changes...you won't know what to do with yourself for awhile I'm sure...but, won't take long to get into the groove...when I retired about 8 years ago I always felt like I was suppose to be somewhere..am sure I must have looked at my watch 100 times a day...lol...now that I'm working again, it's almost a pleasure to have a schedule..things to do...enjoy it...you deserve it..
Wuvie, now what have you done with yourself this morning..hope you are still in your 'jammies' and enjoying the morning sipping on a coffee outside overlooking the garden...lol
Oh my gosh, quite the contrary. I'm working my butt off. LOL
In brief, I once had two big daylily gardens. Not to talk your ear
off, I had to dig them all up and move them, as it was too much
to care for.
Then the daylily garden I put so much work into has to go as well.
It is, at present, nothing but a big weed patch. We have had so much
rain and not enough dry time to work in the garden, so it is Johnson
grass, wild sweet pea or some other obnoxious viney weed, and the
only way I can tell there are daylilies is when they bloom.
So, I'm having to wait until they bloom so as to correctly identify them,
then move the blooming clump, make new and improved labels, replant
them and wait for the next.
This is a major job indeed.
:-) KM
wow, and you said you wanted to relax/rest....
