Plant Ranch vs. The Plant Ranch

Middle of, VA(Zone 7a)

Please direct me if I should post this else where.

Does anyone know if
The Plant Ranch http://www.theplantranch.com/catalog/index.php has any affiliation with
Plant Ranch http://plantranch.net/welcomepage.htm ? I noticed they're in different states but for obvious reasons needed to know if they're "related" prior to ordering.

SF Bay Area, CA(Zone 9b)

I have no facts, but based on a perusal of both sites I'd say they're owned by completely different people. Usually there's some similarity between the websites, which isn't the case here. The first place is newer but looks and feels much more professional. The second place, which actually sells via eBay, is much more low-tech and folksy.

Thanks Marilyn - I went ahead and ordered 4 of the shrub I'd been looking for...limited inventory but I couldn't find this plant this cheap or even close to it AND their s/h is very fair. We'll see what I get. :)

So from which one did you order? And WHAT wonderful plant did you order?

Middle of, VA(Zone 7a)

4 of the Sarcococca confusa - since the're probably a small size esp. @ $2.09/each. I've heard everyone rave over the scent & other then C & S', my other "obsession" would be highly scented plants.

How neat! Good for you! How do you find these gems? A medium-sized shrub which is drought tolerant, likes shade, has fragrant flowers, blooms in the winter, and has no known problems with pests and diseases. What more can you ask for?

Berries aren't edible by humans, but wonder if birds find them yummy?

It also seems to be ideally suited to my home state (Oregon). I don't think I've ever seen it.

I take no credit for this...Glenn at Flower Scent Gardens carries THE most wonderfully scented plants. Becky and I placed our order when he first opened up for 07' orders. Sadly I didn't even both to check out the shrubs/vines selection he had and ended up missing out on these beauties as well as the 'Goldflame' honeysuckle - he's sold out of both now. DG friends are the best at finding plants so I sent out a few dmails and each of them sent me links...whhhaa whooo!!!

SF Bay Area, CA(Zone 9b)

You might have missed out on Glen's plants, but you and Becky did find him in the first place, right? So you're credited with the initial sighting of this plant. LOL!! And it was your tenacity after you realized you missed out that got you four of these beauties at a ridiculously low price. Good on you!

BTW: I was doing some more snooping around and saw that one of the reviews in PlantFiles says it attracts both bees and birds. If true, two more wonderful characteristics!

Marilyn,
Just a FYI if you're interested in getting some there's a nursery closer to you that carries them (1 qt size) for $4/piece: www.worldplants.com

SF Bay Area, CA(Zone 9b)

Yes, I saw World Plants' item when I was searching for info on your wonderful plant. I'd like to have one, but I have no place to put it. The poor thing would die in my hands. LOL!!

Middle of, VA(Zone 7a)

You're too sweet!! I don't believe it would die in your hands for one min...you're one of my main go to plant people...esp. for C & S!!!!

SF Bay Area, CA(Zone 9b)

LOL!! Yes, it would. First of all, even though it's supposed to be drought tolerant, I have no shade for a medium-sized shrub. Second, if it grows so well in the Willamette Valley in Oregon it won't do at all well in many places in the Bay Area (including where I live) because we don't have the humidity or the cold temps. I know they will do well where you live though.
