Can't seem to find thread showing stick's antique garden tote pic, but I ran across it late one night and loved it. Showed it to DH and he sort of copied it so I could keep my tools in one place. Our grandson now has a little one to match. We're getting ready for a garden club sale here and DH made 8 little totes to donate to the sale. Thanks 'sticks' for the idea.......!!! I love mine.

You have one talented DH ~ very nice donation from you both.
I have one of these in the garage... will have to go see if I can find it... I had it stuffed with bloomers for a while.
Isn't that a wonderful tote? I have one like it too. My DH surprised me one morning with this really pretty box full of garden tools and when you opened the box, the tote was on top. The handle folds down. Now I've moved most of the toosl to my wagon, keep seeds in my box and use the tote for all of my everyday tools. I love it!
Yep..that's the link, Pod. I don't keep up with tools very well, but I think this will help....for a while! We found some little spades at WalMart for the donated ones, and we'll add a pot and a little plant. Trying to decide if we should paint them or leave them as is.
Knolan...I have one of those big wagons with the sides that drop down, or can be removed. It's almost too big now that my backyard has ''grown-in'' somewhat. I do love it for moving pots from back to front yard, and for picking up trimmings, tho. Mine's named Elizabeth....and has it's own license plate! We bought DD one and it's named Missy. Neighbors come over and ask to borrow Elizabeth, instead of saying wagon.
I love it! I didn't name mine but I suppose you could say it's name is "Michigan" as it was used in the elementary school state parade and my DD just happened to be Michigan so we spray painted it. LOL. Guess it's time to give it a proper name and repaint.
I use the type of wagon you have (sides come down) at the extension office. That's a great wagon for gardening purposes. Maybe I should just get one of those and retire poor little Michigan.
Awww.....maybe next one could be "Michigan the Second"..... After our next door neighbor saw Elizabeth, she went to Sam's and bought one. She unsuccessfully tried to find a license plate for hers (at Toys r Us) that had the name of the pharmaceutical company that manufactured a particular drug that tended to get her thru her day! What a character.
They now make a big wagon that 'dumps' the back down. If Elizabeth should get old and rusty, I think I'd like one of those.
I don't have one of those heavy duty wagons but a little red wagon is my favorite gardening tool. I only have three... http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/630518/
Three wagons? Wow, got me beat. I used to have a Radio Flyer...over 30 yrs ago. When we lived in San Antonio, I belonged to a couple of art leagues. First time I went to a mall show...Central Park, I think....everyone had these cool dollies that could hold lots of framed paintings. I, on the other hand, had a red wagon. I sold quite a few water colors that weekend and marched right down to Sears and bought a dolly (?) to cart my paintings around for the next show. DD has it now to move her pots around yard. Don't know what happened to wagon. DH loved to tell that story on me.
bigbubbles very adorable....i love your totes..; as for painting...who knows but many of yall know i have an antique store....all my prized wooden tool carriers like big bubbles have been sold....but i used to love to find the old wooden ones with awful green paint (which i dearly love) or red paint that was distressed....; a man made a bunch for my store and we did chippy white paint to use as decor...; i can still kill myself for not getting the red tool box at the last show i went to....
Well, I think I'm going to paint one to see how it comes out. Since we're going to sell them for kids, I think they should look new and finished. But I really like the idea of distressing some. Maybe for next garden show and sale in November, we can do some adult sized ones!
Glad you found the thread, sticks, so I can thank you again for the idea.
And I didn't know you had an antique shop. I have a garage half full of meat pkging boxes filled with "stuff." My aunt in New Mexico planned to open a small antique shop, but died before she had the chance. She collected kitchenware, painted plates, paper, just a little of everything. I've gone thru most of it, and sold lots of things at our annual garage sale in the neighborhood. I have quite a few reference books that she had also. One day, I'll let my husband have his garage back. Just too busy to fool with it now.
Well I'll paint one now and see how it turns out!
send photos of the one you do!!
as for antiques...just e me if you wanna ask about somethings value and / or marketablility....; my store has been closed for about 6 months....but it still is there filled with my stuff....we own the building so it doesn't have to go away...but the business was so slow that i needed to focus my energy somewhere else....(gardening) ...grin
what part of new mexico was your aunt in? my parents live in ruidoso part of the year and part of the year in texas....and i was born in clovis....anyway....send photos of the totes painted:)
bigbubbles, the tote is lovely. I'm embarrased to say that I don't have a tote, just an apron w/ pockets which are too little to carry anything more than my gloves. So......I have hand shovels, etc. all over the garden, tucked in corners here and there. Messy but handy.
Hubby did buy me a John Deere wagon but it's always full of crap and not used as intended.
That is the cutest tote, Sticks. Now ya'll are making me want to pretty mine up.
Funny, Vossner.
knolan...thanks i wish i had a million of them...
voss....i am so bad too....i never put stuff where it belongs...all my tools are put kinda the last place i used them....and if i am lucky i will remember where it was.....
Love the Petunias ~ Sticks.. Is the EZ TOTER metal or wood? If wood, did you find a metal liner for it? I put flowers in mine and would meticulously remove pots to water than replace. After a month or so of that I finally said Foot! and took them out. I didn't want the wood to rot.
Bubbles ~ you got to know if there is a great or fun thread, it will be a "Sticks" magnet! : ))
it is metal...and i knew once i got these in....i couldn't get them out till they died.....so they will probably rust my tote....but what the heck...the road to heck is paved with good intentions....grrrrrrrr i may have to put pot liners underneath the pots now that i have talked to you.....ggggrrrrrr
I was afraid to wood would go south on me. I also wondered if it needed little feet under it to keep it breathing from the underside. DH suggested drilling holes but I said not ready to make that commitment yet. I will dig mine out and post a photo ~ maybe. : )
pod...yah know...i hate that about 'stuff'....it sort of owns me and it drives me crazy that i worry about it....then when i don't worry about and i discovery it has gotten trashed....well then i get mad at that...whats a gurl to do??
GO SHOPPING! Greenhouse touring... pots, plants, more seeds ~ name your poison!
ah heck...been doing it all night; vossner enabled me so more and so i have been
finding stuff....dont need to be finding stuff.....
Hey...am I the only one who was working today???? I painted 4 of the totes with primer. Then I painted all my outdoor furniture apple green, including the blue table in the first pic above. And then I made new cushions for all the chairs. I then painted one of the totes blue..one coat..still drying. Need to find red paint, I think. I'm too tired to think now.
Voss, I too leave my spades around the yard in pots so I can hopefully find them. I must have 7 or 8....and can maybe find one after about 10 minutes of hunting.
Sticks....the stuff in the garage and the attic...I decided I'd let my daughter deal with it all when I go to "the great beyond." Payback for her being a teenager years ago! Seriously, we've made quite a dent in it. And a lot of the furniture is in our little lake house. It's just that I always wanted to be the only antique in my house. Now I have "old stuff."
My aunt lived in Roswell. I spent nearly every summer out there. I love Ruidoso. DH went thru a gunnery school for 3 mo in Clovis in '69. Some airman took all the pilots' wives out to the range in a bus. Some of us asked if we could get off and look at the "bombs." Three times we moved "one blue bomb and one orange bomb" on the moving company manifest.
Time to sleep. Have garden club mtg in morning..and another in the evening tomorrow.
Will get pic of totes to post when I get one finished......

cant wait to se um:)
Sticks....Here are the finished aprons and two of the 8 garden totes. I painted a couple of totes before I was banned from the garage. DH finished them after he re-did the ones I ruined. Half are red, others blue. The rain has put us behind getting things finished. The trim on the aprons is buttons I've had for ages. Also have packets of seeds to add....Hope we have some grammas at the plant sale this weekend. I think the totes will appeal to them! We plan to have a paint pen handy to personalize the totes also. Thank goodness the rain is gone. We have tons of plants to sell.....
those are the most adorable totes and aprons....if i had little one i would
surely have to have some...you are ever so talented!!!! precious precious
precious:)
Aw, gee......thanks......for the compliment, but more so for the original idea. Now we have to pray for a sunny weekend......we have so many plants and hanging baskets to sell...
Sandi, rain is go to Louisiana. not to worry.
Nery...do you promise????????????
BB....those aprons and totes are darling! I wish I was going to be at your sale.
Knolan...I wish you were too! Would love to meet you and the others that share on this forum. Maybe I'll get to attend the next plant swap at College Station and put faces to names.
My, we're a handsome bunch!
we are indeed ALL a handsome bunch
seedpicker...love the tote photo
Well............there is a certain amount of animal magnetism in the bunch of you! I would have never guessed you were all so....so....HAIRY.....
Seedpicker.....you gotta know.....we're gonna copy your tote...maybe not this week...because I have to do classification for the flower show Fri&Sat, but soon...oh, yeah...soon...that's just too cute!
Seedpicker ~ I love that tote. Where did you come across that? That would be the cutest gift for a gardener or birder.
Bubbles ~ be careful what you wish for...
Maybe I'll get to attend the next plant swap at College Station and put faces to names
Y'all, if anyone took our photos (like these are) and put them on DG, we would probably be suicidal.
Sticks are those really their names? Wondered where yours came from.
Kristi ~ If that handsome guy is yours, I can see why you would love to be more rural.
Fly ~ your critter is waiting with baited breath for a butterfly or dragonfly or... : )
Vossner ~ you are spending the day as I would wish too. What a joyous dog!
Very cute critter collections as well as totes.
