Ch 6, Ron, the drug dealer

Once they dug up the front yard and capped off his sewer line, Ron found himself in a sort of pickle. And he knew his sewer line would eventually back up. But he continued to hook up his water hose to my back yard spigot every evening after dark. And he judiciously disconnected it by dawn. And frankly, I felt rather safe from the threats from the utility company, because I could always claim that I had no idea he was stealing my water.
Ron was sucking the water from my house into his between sundown and sunup. But it only took
a few days before Ron's sewer line backed up right into his house. You gotta understand that Ron knew that pooping and flushing toilet paper would not be a good idea. So, after the utility company capped off his sewer line, Ron adopted his "conservation mode". He established a home-made portable toilet in the back corner of his yard that was private from the eyes of neighbors. The little water that he allowed to go into the sewer line was pretty much clean, or "dirty water", the little bit that he allowed to drain from the kitchen sink, or maybe the bathroom sink.
But, as I said, after a few days, it did catch up with him. The 4" sewer line, which was about 60' feet long finally filled up. But when it backed up, it backed up into the lowest spot in his house, which was his half-bath shower stall, adjacent to his master bedroom.
I was not aware of that problem at the time. But one late morning, as I was going out to check the mailbox, I heard a splash of water. I looked around and didn't see anything. As I was gathering the mail I heard another splash. I just stood at my mailbox, waiting.
30 seconds later I saw a mop bucket of water sailing out the window of Ron's half-bath, which is located on the front side of the house. Ron was bailing out the water that had filled up his shower stall. He was simply making the best of a bad situation. And, honestly, he was doing a darn good job of it. He was actually beating the utility company, albeit, at extra effort on his part, (along with the help of my free water).
While all this sword-fighting was going on between Ron and the utilility company, his mortgage company had already initiated foreclosure procedings against Ron. He was about 4-5 months behind in his mortgage payments, and the mortgage company was not very happy.
When the foreclosure paperwork hit the county clerks office, Ron's problems became public info, and it didn't take long for an investor (vulture) to sniff out a possible landfall. From there, Ron's future did not look all that good.

You are a patient man! Ron must be a complete idiot to not know that his faniggling would not soon end. I can appreciate the laughs you must have had out of all this, but with the price of water here in GA, I could not abide his stealing it. They are threatening to now double everyones bill because of the shortage, I'm sure this will deture some usage. Maybe he will be gone soon and you can get some really nice neighbors. Good luck!

Draven, ya just gotta be patient. Did you ever try to read one really great paperback in just one day? Of course not. The anticipation was part of the enjoyment.

Azalea, Ron was never a 'complete idiot'. He had survived for several years as a part-time drug dealer, and had made the necessary connections with the local police department to ensure that he would be safe. And, trust me, in the end, I did not get all that many laughs out of it. I feel that I did come out ahead, but not to the extent that I had planned.
