I thought I'd start this thread as the Storm thread got so long.
I'm back from a week in Disney! Mickey says hello. I went with the family and we had picture perfect weather! I'm glad I was off today as I definitely needed R&R after a week there!!! Here's a pic of the family, minus the parental units.
I can see you all had a good week.
Storm's over and time for Coffee!!!
Welcome back Anita! I know that post-Disney fatigue. Glad to hear the weather was nice. Was way too hot when we were there. Did you check out the Epcot Flower Show?
So did I!! Took me about 7 shots from on top of a garbage can to get that shot.
Beautiful photographs. Glad you had a good rest. Now you need a rest from your vacation.
Anita, Your neices have gotten so big!!
Are you in that photo? I didn't recognize you.
How quickly the ex's are forgotten.
That's you on the right??
Actually - the photographer never makes the photo - they only take it.
Funny - we did the same character breakfast Anita - Norway in Epcot. My bro - in - law and I enjoyed the princesses - especially Jasmine!
LOL!! So did my brother. He told the girls to make sure she had to lean over to speak with them!
well, I am having coffee . . . but I have never been to Disneyland or Disneyworld.
Instead, I am here sitting feeling sorry for myself - Today is the day I am supposed to be having the neighbourhood plant swap - in an attempt to find homes for some of the stuff I winter-sowed, and some of the perennials I am getting rid of.
But instead of a nice, warm, sunny Saturday morning, it is grey, and cold, and miserable. I don't even want to be outside. Sigh . . . I don't think any one will come. I have one hour to get dressed and motivate myself.
I supposed anything that doesn't find a home, I can plant in the terrace.
Michaela, hopefully people will think of it as a great day for planting. Good luck!
Anita, Nice collage! I love Animal Kingdom more than anyone else in my family.
I don't remember you wearing quite so much make up as in that last pic!
Still can't believe how big those girls are already. Did you have a lot of fun?
the people in our neighbourhood are fabulous . . . but mostly fair-weather garderners -literally. But thanks for cheering me up. :-)
Dear Seandor!
I'm so sorry that the weather is so miserable for your plant swap! If it's any consolation, it's absolutely grims-ville here on the Cape--been raining for 36 hours straight. I'm so sorry I'm not closer to Springfield 'cause I'd be over to visit your plant-swap!
--Emily
Thanks Emily, no I am not the sort of person that takes comfort in other people's misery. I wish all gardners perfect weather, with gentle, but deep rains once a week early in the morning. All this grey reminds me of the PNW (Pacific North-West) during the winter - but the grey disappears (usually) half way through April, and it's sunny blue skies after that.
Of course, it is supposed to be sunny later next week.
Meanwhile, I have 32 lisianthus to plant into containers - and they are warm weather plants. I doubt it is even 45 degrees outside.
I know, I know . . . stop my snivelling, there are lots of people who wish the only problems they have to deal with are a non-existent plant swap. :-)
Perhaps the rain will hold off.... I forgot to plant lisianthus!!! I have to check the germination rate and see if I can still plant some. When did you sow yours?
DAve - I too can not believe how big my nieces are. Samantha is already showing signs of hormonal changes....I guess the terrible teens are just around the corner. They were still at an age where they enjoyed going. Jessica was still young enough to see the Magic of it all.
Never sowed them - didn't even know about them until last August when my friends wedding arrangements and bouquet featured blue lisanthus and delphiniums.
so I ordered mine from Burpee - came yesterday and the plants look terrific!
I am going to see if I can post a picture of the terrace on our street. This is what will receive any extra seedlings etc.

That will be nice for the neighborhood.
I wonder how old those maps are? They don't show the homes on the street behind me. They were built several years ago.
Well, I'm off to the nursery for a few more plants. It's grey here too, but if I'm lucky, the rain will hold off.
Welcome back Anita - I recognize you making a cameo behind your neice in the princess photo. I've never been to Disneyland.
Anita, your trip sounds wonderful! I've never been to Disney. Great photos too.
Seandor, all I can offer you is sympathy and companionship. I feel the same way today. Your map didn't work for me. All I got was the maps homepage.
Harper
we had rain the last 2 days, and a heavy frost night before last, but it's supposed to be clear and sunny today (hurray!). I've been planting in 40* drizzle and pretty unhappy about it.
Michaela, sorry you didn't get a nice day. maybe the possibility of a free plant will bring people out.
here's a snapshot of my house from Google Earth
I don't know Jan - looks like a lot more plant space at the house across the street. I have space envy, I treated this house the other day that has 8 acres of irrigated lawn - I could have a hundred of everything and not just one.
Gram, it looks like your houses are little legos. Neat shot! It's interesting to see the different patches of grass color.
Al, 8 acres?! I'm envious too... One day I'm gonna have lots and lots of acres to play around with. Yup.
Bigger lot across the street but no lake front ~ I really wanted to be on the lake. it's an old pic...they don't update very often. so none of my new beds are there since 2005. I wouldn't begin to know what to do with 8 acres. I could go for, maybe, 2.
Nice size lot Grams.
Well, I'm back from the nursery [s] - of course I couldn't stop at just going to the one, when the other is so close! I also couldn't stop at the few things I went for.... Now I get to plant!! Yeah!!
I thought of you Al - I bought some Callas...
I'll take 8 acres in a second. Or 10 or 20. Would be heavenly to me. Gram, did you plant any trees for shade??
Someone came! They brought three very lovely basil plants - but more importantly, took one monardia (have about 8 more left!); 4 baby's breath - probably 40 left; and 12 columbine - only about 60 left! LOL
I just purchased the field out back of my house....I am the new owner of 12.5 acres!!!! I now can plant until my little heart is content and DH will still have a lawn!
Congrats!! Lucky you. How about setting aside a 1/2 acre or so as a community garden for us space deprived??
I suppose I could....it's not like I can tend 12 acres of flower beds by myself! LOL Actually we bought it to put our next house on, I have always wanted a log cabin in the middle of a field. Nothing fancy, just has to have a porch. Here , i'll just show you what i'm putting down there. http://www.honestabe.com/Gallery/drury/drury_01.jpg
Wow - love it! Always liked log homes.
Pixie - that's a park!
Thanks Victor, like I just a plain old log home w/a porch to put my rocking chairs on and hang my flower baskets from.
Yes Seandor it is about the size of a park but I do plan on putting in a pond, a log home, and a FEW flower beds. It butts up to the property we live on now, so I can live here and watch it being built/transformed into my dream house. I want it done yesterday!!! LOL
