When the utility company got fed up, they showed up with a flatbed tow truck and a backhoe. They hauled off the junker resting atop the water meter. And then they began digging a hole out near the sidewalk. The backhoe dug down 6-7 feet, tearing up 2 sections of sidewalk in the process.
When they got deep enough, they found that my sewer line from my house "Y'd" into the sewer line from Ron's house. From that point it merged and drained out to the main sewer line in the middle of the street.
The utility company then cut out a 12" section of Ron's sewer pipe. They then capped off Ron's sewer pipe, and they capped off the stub that fed into the "Y", leaving my line intact. It took them about 1/2 a day, but once it was done they filled in all the dirt they had dug up and then brought in a cement contractor and a sod company to fix what they had torn up. So what they did was allow my sewer runoff to remain intact, while stopping Ron's.
But Ron was not the kind of guy to give up easily.
