Bloom.com getting repeats?

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Why are the pictures on Bloom.com repeating lately? I know with all of the vast database of photos to draw from, that we haven't gone through them all. Is there a lack of interest?

I had initially selected about 60 "blooms" out of PlantFiles to feature, and gave each of them a day on which to run. I had pictures set to run until May 14th and after that day it reverted to picking ones that already ran.

I'm trying to think of a way to load up the queue for the next year or so (only 365 pictures need to be selected out of PlantFiles to queue it up for a year).

Maybe you have some favorites that would be good nominations for bloom? Maybe I should add a "Suggest this photo for bloom.com" link in PlantFiles?

Bet you would get a lot of great offers.

I've added it!

Next time you're looking at a photo in PlantFiles, look for the "(Suggest this photo for bloom.com)" link at the top. :) Hopefully this'll provide us with a bunch of good recommendations.

Dave,

How about choosing from the pictures submitted to the DG Photo Contest that did not win? Surely, it would be a great way to recognize all the awesome pictures that were submitted, but not recognized.

I just want to say that i DO enjoy checking out what the "Bloom of the day" is. They are all so beautiful.

This will be fun suggesting plants (not pictures) for the plant of the day......I wouldn't have any pictures to offer but the plant files are full of good pics.......but it would be fun to take part in selections of individual plants that we love in particular....

What an easy way to provide feedback about future Bloom.com photos!

Should we focus on suggesting photos of plants that have most/all of the Plantfiles details filled in? And may we suggest some of our own along the way? ;-)

I love the idea, but the problem is that those aren't cross referenced into PlantFiles, so they wouldn't work for bloom.com...

The focus should be on the beauty and uniqueness of the bloom itself, and if the entry itself is complete then all the better. And yes, please do suggest some of your own plants!

dave

I just checked and not one suggestion has been made recorded yet. Is there a bug, or is it true that nobody has suggested one yet?

I am computer challenged............I can't find where to go.............I have a lot of favorites to suggest.....like Rangoon Creeper and Baby Pink Jatropha...

Dave,I couldn't find the link to recommend a plant from plantfiles I just looked.

Arlington, GA(Zone 8a)

never mind I found it,You have to open the picture,Duh!!!!

Arlington, GA(Zone 8a)

Gessie, If you are in plantfiles and you open a picture(running along the side) to full size at the top of the photo is the link. http://davesgarden.com/pf/showimage/109152/

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

thanks, I just added the baby pink jatropha bloom, but i don't know how good the photos have to be?????? I just went outside to take the picture....
I need to spend at least one day just adding pictures to the plant files....maybe in the winter time when we aren't all so busy, I could take the time and add to plant files....
PS> I am bad...I take pics all the time but never upload to plantfiles!!!

Well, we're looking for the best of the best photos that are currently in PlantFiles to be suggested for bloom.com...

I clicked on a picture of Alium schubertii yesterday. I expected it to take me to another screen or something but it took me to the home page.

Ah ha, thanks for that claypa. Indeed there was a bug in there that wasn't allowing you to proceed (throwing you back to the homepage.)

This bug is now fixed. Please be aware that if anybody has previously suggested photos for bloom.com - they were not received! Please go through and suggest them again.

dave

Yes, now it says something like 'thanks for suggesting this plant, etc.' and let's you click a link to go back to the plant.
Really, I was just trying to see how it worked, I can't say the plant's picture is especially worthy of a bloom.com feature.

You suggested this one: http://davesgarden.com/pf/showimage/84105

The only thing wrong with that one is its a bit small...

OK, Dave, I now know what you might be looking for....thanks

I've just nominated about 8 photos for consideration - and no, they're not all mine. *smiling*

Outstanding ya'll!! You have all picked out beautiful photos - perfect for bloom.com!

Thanks to claypa, dragonfly53, frostweed, kamchin, lillymw, Sheila_FW, and TuttiFrutti we now have bloom.com photos selected through June 6th. Please keep them coming!

WOOT! Happy to help, Dave. *grins*

Pity I'm too busy in Donna's Garden right now to run back over to the Plantfiles for more selections... hehehe... but then, I'd be there oohing and aahing for the rest of the day!

I have done nothing but pot up cuttings, leaves, stolens, etc. from the best trade I ever made on DG!!!!!! Life is Good on DG, Dave!!!!!!! Many are miniature plants............

Belfield, ND(Zone 4a)

I need a clarification here. Are we JUST looking to put blooms on blooms.com? I'm assuming this excludes great foliage plants, or shots of great foliage along with a bloom?

Well, I don't know. I don't limit myself to blooms (ask palmbob about that) when selecting them. If a foliage photo is excellent, submit it!

dave

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Can someone please hyperlink me to where the suggestions are to be placed....I still don't 'get it'....
thanks

Thank you verrrry much!!

Wow, I checked the suggestions queue and am amazed at how many photos have been selected! I'm excited to go through them and add them to bloom.com on Monday. We should probably be good through all of July.

Please keep 'em coming!

I try to select ones that are large enough, a crisp shot and with several other images included if possible. I find myself getting pickier as to what I would submit, I feel they should be extra special looking. Also, there are many great photographers but unfortunately, some images are reduced to quite small sizes that wouldn't work with blooms.com.
But I am having fun and spending way too much time looking through past files, iIt does tend to side track me as I discover new plants along the way LOL!

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Me too Sue, I think that is the purpose of Bloom.com! LOL!!

Lenexa, KS(Zone 6a)

I noticed on Bloom.com that some images are VERY large. Is there a "too large" size, Dave?

No, I don't think so. The maximum size of any image on DG is 1000 pixels wide, which I think ought to be fine...

dave

Lenexa, KS(Zone 6a)

What about length? I'm thinking about the Bloom.com images for May 10-12. The width is good but they are very long causing scrolling on my browser and I have 1280 x 1024 resolution.

I don't mind needing to scroll to see the whole picture. I don't think we should disqualify a picture just because it's too big, but of course that's just my opinion.

We now have photos through mid November! Isn't that amazing?

dave

Northern California, United States(Zone 9a)

Ok, another idea. I suspect many would love get a notice when their image is used!

I was thinking along the same lines (great minds frequently think alike! ;-)

dave

Northern California, United States(Zone 9a)

wow, I have a great mind LOL!
I thought it would really draw more attention to blooms.com that way too plus it's a ego boost to a photographer to know that their image was selected as well, an encouragement to submit more fine images to PF.
Often, if I come across a great image in a thread, I check to see if they have submitted it yet, if not, I add that suggestion as well as a link to the PF page, makes it easy for them. ;-)
If they know that their image was appreciated and used on blooms.com, they may tend to be more diligent with adding more.
