not another forum?

West Bay, Cayman Islands(Zone 11)

hey everyone,
I know Shari is diligently working on getting interest up in a tropical gardening specific forum and her posts have generated alot of positive feedback. I for one am all for it. I am a newbie gardener and us island folk have issues like no other place.

I was wondering, out of those folks who visit the tropicals forums, how many divers are amongst y'all and what you think about an underwater garden forum....just a thought.....not trying to take away from just adding to!!! just a thought....Keep up the great work Shari....you have sparked a lively forum!!!

diving aside...underwater gardening could be what I do in my aquariums....hmmmm....good idea there!!!!

Woah! Cool beans! Now, I have one question: How do I keep the divers out of my garden??? I have a very LARGE (!!) pool. Ha, ha, some of you may know it as the Pacific!

Great idea John! This is me, my granddaughter and my SIN....backyard, well, almost backyard.

Oh Boy!!

You have the same color grass in your almost backyard as me!!! Same color dirt (sand) too!!! Our sand is made from Parrot Fish poop!!! What's your's???

Rio Rico, AZ(Zone 8a)

Coral - all coral- totally and completely coral. We play a lot of softball here, as we have discussed elsewhere, but we have to change the rules a bit. Absolutely no sliding at any time! Every base can be overrun if you turn to the right. All this sort of thing to keep the coral scars to a minimum, but we all seem to have our "badges of courage".

Threegardeners - I am trying to encourage my daughter to show up here, she had the most beautiful aquariums! She built her own O2 thingy, and she could contribute a lot. But her modem fried, and she's on a laptop, so it may be a while. But she will be able to contribute a bunch of info, I'm sure.

Shari?

See? Same color grass!

Parrot Fish

They swim, eat coral, poop sand...This is their life. That's all they do. For those who look at images of pristene, white, sandy, let's put our toes in it, beaches...most likely it is formed by lots of years of Parrot Fish and other fishes that eat hard corals for nutrition and the end result is what you are walking hand in hand in.....I am sorry if I spoiled anyone's holiday.....get over it....sand is formed this way......clean and organic....besides, you probably put your hands in something much worse while gardening.....LOL!!!!

LOL. I know I have put my hands in worse things. My face too.

Rio Rico, AZ(Zone 8a)

Yup, parrot fish, butterfly fish, angel fish, sharks.....they all poop sand. I laugh when I hear people talking about the underwater "snow".....little do they know! But as you say.....there is MUCH worse that we play in, in the garden and elsewhere!

Does this image look like a plant or a flower?

I see it as a bunch of flowers but actually, it is a group of worms. Social Feather Duster worms. Quite beautiful and can be found in many areas around the reef. Normally in shallow water, say, less than 50 feet.

This is the kind of thing I am talking about for aquarium enthusiasts and the like....not really looking for our own forum but you never know...

Shari is over in the Marshall Islands and her bunch get into some beautiful things too! I am happy to share underwater "plants" and see what interest is generated, if any, for a possible forum for underwater gardening...

Let me know if I should continue to post images here on this thread...keeping in mind that all images posted are copyrighted by me, and should not be used in any fashion other than viewing. If wallpapers are desired from any posted images, dmail me and I can size one up for you....not looking for praise, just sharing underwater plants and animals!

I love your pictures!! Please keep posting them. The first one looks like a bunch of worms almost in the thumbnail but when looking at it full size it looks like flowers!! That is pretty cool.

I will look at the second one in a sec. Didn't want to lose this. lol

Love all the colors in the second one. That is simply gorgeous!!

Well, John, I can't let you have all the fun! Here is a feather starfish on a Gorgonian fan coral. I am trying to find my daughters aquarium pics....they are gorgeous, but my computer is being stubborn.

You have a stubborn computer too? Mine has problems and it refuses to fix itself. lol

Love that starfish.

isn't it pretty? I love the feathers. Here's a pretty of the bubble coral. I would have just a coral garden I think.

I am so glad that I happened to stumble onto this thread. Please keep your wonderful pics coming. As you can imagine, the diving isn't too good in Wisconsin. I haven't been diving for almost 9 years, and miss it so much. Most of my diving was done in South Asia (when we lived in the region) with one fabulous dive trip to the Maldives.

Thank you so much for for your beautiful photography and for reviving my diving memories.

Rio Rico, AZ(Zone 8a)

Marie....I can't imagine being away for 9 years! Guess I have salt water in my veins instead of blood. Glad we could give you a pleasant moment.

John, finally found a couple pics I've been looking for. Not all underwater gardening is in our big ponds! Here are a couple of my daughters aquarium...she did all the planting herself, and they were beautiful!

Rio Rico, AZ(Zone 8a)

Well, that obviously didn't work. They didn't come out in the right format. Anyway, if you are interested you can check them out at WebShots. Click on community and search for majiktouch. Her aquariums would probably be of interest to anyone doing that kind of gardening. Most are noted with the type of plants, etc. Sorry I couldn't post them here.

Those aquarium shots are nice!! Shari, tell your daughter I had a look and they really look nice! I need to sign up or something to leave a comment, but if you could pass it on to her, I'd be grateful.

For those who have just happened along this new thread, be sure to go to this thread too and feel free to chime in!! Shari, (Islandshari) has done a great job with trying to get another forum started at DG's. Leave some feedback and maybe we'll get our Gardening in the Tropics forum!! Thanks in advance,

I will pass along your kind words. I'm sure she will be posting here as soon as she gets her new modem. Right now she can't do much of anything. Funny how we get so dependent on these darn machines! of course, now that I have met all of you, I couldn't live without it!
