Wow! I wonder, if the lizards in our south can do so. Those are about 8 inches long and have quite nice grass-green color.

Los Angeles, CA(Zone 10a)

I think they might need sometimes swim in the mountain brooks, but I've never observe them doing so. They just brouse around on the dry surface.

This is what they look like on land .

I think you are right .

Do you have these things there ?

We have `pavers but I believe they are several different kinds. I can assure you that the operators would never have shorts on. although it is over 118 degrees standing on the paver.

This was at Xmas time when the temp. was 36c .
Tough guys this lot .

Hi Kell - sorry I'm so late checking in :-)

Here's a spring photo from my garden - taken May 9th. Things are slowly taking off - it's only 7°C (43°F) today, still waiting to get into the 50's ;-) We're getting into the long daylight time now - sunrise was at 3:45 this morning and sunset will be at 11:04.

Hi and Welcome back rannveig

I can't remember ,
But the Daff's Have any perfume ?

Northeast, LA(Zone 8a)

I 've been lurking here with you and George too.

Brisvegas, Australia(Zone 12b)

Now rannveig has joined in ,
It's just like old times again .

KC Metro area, MO(Zone 6a)

lol. If I remember correctly some daffs have fragrance. They are also edible. A former gardener where I work loves to eat plants from the garden that are edible. If they are edible, no matter what they are, he eats them. He especially loves violets.

Brisvegas, Australia(Zone 12b)

Hey Pep , When I first read your post .
I thought you said he eats Violins ?

Wish I could grow Daff's .

(Zone 5a)

Thanks Kell and George :-)

The daffs have a slight scent that you don't really notice until you cut them and bring them inside ..... not really a very pleasant scent in my opinion but not so strong that I'd throw them out ;-) Never tried eating them though - lol. They were on a list I saw over toxic plants - listed as irritants - so I'm not sure they'd make good eatin'. Why can't you grow them Kell - is it too hot down there for them?

I'll try and check in once in a while with photos ;-) I'm finding it very hard to find computertime now - springtime in the garden might have something to do with it. lol The list of things to do seems endless ....... I'm sure that sounds familiar to all of you ;-)

Here's another one - this one was taken on May 16th just before 9 pm :-)

Love the Pond rannveig ,
I think there should be a law passed to say every garden should have a pond .
Then we can all look at each others and compare / admire .
The little bridge is a must with the pond . Yes rannveig Just to hot here for Daffs .

Carol , Jack just loves Swimming .
He spends more time in the GFP than out of it .

Here he is trying to pretend he is a GF .
It's not working Jack .

I don't know....he looks like one in that pic. lol

No law on ponds!! I am surrounded by natural ones and therefore surrounded by mosquitos and snakes and lizards. Don't mind snakes as long as I don't see them and lizards startle me when I first glance at them but as soon as I see they are lizards then it's like ok, not a snake. lol.

Mosquitos-please go away!!! I hate being eaten alive by them. If it's dusk/nighttime I get bit all over the place. It drives me insane!!

Brisvegas, Australia(Zone 12b)

When I was in Paris , I went insane ?

Get you a duck, Pepper. They looooove skeeters! and slugs, snail, moths...;o)

Brisvegas, Australia(Zone 12b)

Trust me Pep , Kim knows what she is talking about .

Northeast, LA(Zone 8a)

Kell I am surprised that you can not grow at least one cultivar of daffs. Our zones are not too far off and I have tons. They are heirloom southern bulbs that have stood the test of time. There are ones that do not require the cold. Check around it see if there is some in Australia you could try. I see you pushing your zone with other plants. If you can get some try choosing a cooler shaded southern exposure(I guess that's right) northern for me. You can plant them deep and they will still have some blooms. Just a suggestion.

Cindy , I will try it as my challenge for winter .
Just one Question ? What does winter Mean ???

Northeast, LA(Zone 8a)

cooler than 70 degrees about sums it up.

(Zone 5a)

Cindy - that would be the definition of an Icelandic summer ;-) lol

Kell - Jack looks happy cooling off in the pond :-) Very nice looking pond too! Now that it's winter time down there how cool does it get?? (I'm assuming it doesn't get very cold)

Pepper - so glad there aren't any of those pests around here ! lol

But we have plenty of slugs and snails - so a duck would be handy to have around ! lol

rannveig

Brisvegas, Australia(Zone 12b)

Cindy, At the moment it's 24 C days .
And 18 C nights .
Good potato growing weather .

KC Metro area, MO(Zone 6a)

Ducks would last exactly one minute in my yard with all the dogs we have around here. I live in the country which means no leashes.

North Little Rock, AR(Zone 7b)

Kell, I have some daffs that I will give you. Mine just do not get enough sun to bloom every year. They bloom about every 3 years. Stop by anytime and pluck them from the ground. ;o)

rann, there are many types of domestic ducks that are very hardy. They are very happy in very cold and wet weather and do just as well, in very hot dry weather. You may want to check and see what is best for your area.

Pep, I am always amazed at the number of people that have ducks (without a pond) and dogs in the same yard. I have been told that domestic ducks that can out think a dog and/or fly away is the type chosen. After a while, the dogs give up, the ducks are just too much trouble. I have also been told that the ducks will then act high and mighty and tease the dogs. "Nana nana na na, I'm gettin closer and you can't get me" The biggest threat is foxes, wolves, etc. So, I cannot keep them as pets either...unless they sleep in the house.

Brisvegas, Australia(Zone 12b)

We have ppl here who have gees that act like watch dogs .
They wont let you out of the car .
And they will chase you and snap at your heels .
Then bark like a dog . But they don't come IN the house .
And they will also eat dog food .

Toone, TN(Zone 7a)

I'll take the dog and the pond. :-)
What is a GF?

Here's Mick the Mouth....truly sorry that he ate my slipper.

Carol ,
GF is short for gold fish .

A big Hi to Mick .
Looks like its time for new pair of slippers ?

Toone, TN(Zone 7a)

Thanks rannveig. He does indeed have a conscience, thankfully! lol I notice if I tell him no and touch his nose with whatever he has destroyed, he won't touch it again. I can even leave him outside now unsupervised as long as the other dogs are with him.
We're making progress! lol

yep time for new slippers. He hasn't even seen the Scooby Do slippers yet!

Brisvegas, Australia(Zone 12b)

Will be picking these very soon .
