message removed?

Hi ya'll. This is just a curiosity question. I am reading a lot of the old posts (before I start bombarding everyone with questions that have already been asked you see), and I notice every once in a while, "message removed at ......request". So why would anyone just remove their comment? It makes it hard to figure out what other references to that comment are talking about. Just wonderin.....

I guess you could say that those missing comments are a sign of the growing pains the site has overcome. A couple of people left DG after having their feelings hurt or becoming angry over some issue or another and when they left they asked or demanded all of their posts be removed. At that time Dave humored them and they were deleted. This was fairly early in the site's history. I have not seen it happen recently which is a good thing.

It did leave answers to posts dangling in odd ways at times but most of those old threads still contain other entries worth reading. When I see those missing entries I use it as a reminder that it is necessary to word things in such a way as to not offend and to think before I post rather than after.

The forums were fairly new then and rules of etiquette have evolved so that hopefully this type of thing is all in the past. As long as we all try to be courteous and treat our differences with respect there will be harmony in Dave's Garden.

Zany, thanks for the explanation. I understand what you are saying about wording things the right way....I think I have already stepped on some toes, and believe me, that was the last thing I ever wanted to do here. It's a shame that people got so upset that they wanted their words deleted from the site! That's pretty extreme. I love the "no current events" policy...I'm sure it saves many a bruised ego. But here in my own little corner of the world, I must say that I love discussions of all the forbidden subjects - politics, religion, sex. etc. You name it, we discuss it, makes for some lively dinner parties! But no one is allowed to raise their voice or make any personal comments....so I guess we all have our ways of keeping bruised egos to a minimum. Thanks again.
