Does anyone else do this....

When you first stumble out of bed...do you go over to your plants and turn on the lights for them and talk to them, asking them how there night was? Or open the blinds and ask them if they want to see the sunshine...and i am always talking in that little baby voice...And then when i water them, I say " Are you thirsty" do you want some wa-wa , and then stand there and wait like they will answer me back...lol
Some of my girls' friends just look at me like a retarded and my daughters say "oh don't mind her, she always talks to her plants. And i remember when i was little my mom always told me to talk to your plants that they will grow...and every once in a while smack the sides of them, as is you are giving them a spankin, that will keep the roots healthy so these are just some of the things, weird as they may be, that i do.

What do you do???

OMG...that was the cutest message ever. lol

No...I don't. But my mom did tell me to talk to my plants and I actually did tell my son the other day to talk to his. lol

Maybe it is bcause I am not a morning person and there are 4 kids and 5 cats already needing my attention.

But as soon as they are all set..I head out to all my plants and check them...I do that a few times a day.

Hi Char and Giddymoon-
Well, I can't say i jump out bed and do this - But yes I do talk to my plants.
inside and out, when I am in a realy good mood I will actually break into song. (haven't killed one yet with my voice) LOL I tell them how beautiful they are and how they will have a nice rest in fall --haha thought I was the
only nut about it. Can't say I ever "spanked" one tho-and yes my kids think I am just a little over the top on the matter. Happy plant chattering.

No, but we have conversations with our cats.

I have heard that the reason they say to talk to your plants is a basic, scientific one. Really you could just breathe on them. It is because we take in oxygen and give off carbon dioxide which plants then take in and give off oxygen. Basically we feed each other. So I guess some where way back when someone was talking to their plants and realized that maybe that made them grow a little better and started the whole thing.

Reaaly, I thought Barbara Streisand started it in On a Clear Day!!
No just kidding I had heard that too, Really never think of the Science way when I blab at my plants. But I do notice a difference of when I don't.

It is sometimes just nice to talk to someone without getting "backtalk", my girls are 13 and soon to be 11 and OMG the mouths on them is unbelievable..Sometimes i just wanna haul off and POP there mouths, actually sometimes i do without even thinking just a natural instinct....anyway, my plants always enjoy my little banter and just keep growing and growing.

I do carry on general conversations with all my plants -- "you look good today, you need to flower now", etc.. Also talk to the birds -"poop on my head and no more seed in the feeder!" squirrels -"get moving before I whack you with my broom!" etc. etc. etc. Seriously though, I had a professor advise me to shake my indoor trees and plants on a regular basis. Seems they benefit from some artificial wind -- helps keep the trunks and stems strong. Don't know if that qualifies as spanking... ;)

I verbally communicate with my garden (though their communication, as of yet, remains non-verbal). I think sending out the positive vibes makes the difference, but who knows.
