What, no Voldemort?!!

another view - looking toward the back of the lot. Do you see the Tournament of Roses Standard, pirl? I have more dirt to pile in that corner, then I will smooth it out and plant flowering annuals - maybe larkspur - on it.

the fence will be painted this year. DH want to paints it a rosy beige colour.

Just behind where the daffodils are, I have planted oriental lilies. I still need some sort of shade groundcover for along the side fence - or else some tall, narrow plant that loves shade and moisture.

The little white wire borders are protecting two new roses: Margaret Merril - a fragrant white rose, and Betty Harkness a fragrant, salmon coloured rose. In the foreground will be Welsh Gold - an amber coloured rose.

Between the roses, is lavender that I planted last fall. I ordered it from Michigan Bulb because they were supposed to send potted plants - what I got was soggy bare-rooted stuff that mostly looked rotted. So far, of twelve plants, one appears to be putting out leaves. Thank goodness Grampapa shared some lavender seed with me (yep - I have 20 germinated, and I have started with round two, and if I have too many, I will share the plants with neighbours and friends.)

Other plants include tall phlox (just germinating), veronica sunny day blue (?), pinks (Helen), and Blue wonder catmint.

Still lots of room to fill with annuals until the perennials fill in. :-)

Well, kassia and I have already determined that the orcs are Japanese Beetles. . . and many people had suggestions on another thread on plants that represented total evil (aka The Ring)

But, I never thought of Voldemort . . . any suggestions?

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Something you just can't kill. I have a few. Eupatorium Chocolate, Chasmanthium latifolium, Lysimachia clethroides, turfgrass...

Springfield, MA(Zone 6a)

There are plants you can't kill????? who knew!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Not without super duper toxins.

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

Harry looked like he had a movie and a book about to come out.
Voldemort as vodoo lily? I think you should have the Weasley twins. They are outstanding charecters.

Springfield, MA(Zone 6a)

Dave47, is a vodoo lily hard to grow? What would you suggest for the rascally Weasley twins.

I can hardly wait for the next HP movie. It comes out July 7, I believe. And the last book comes out this year.

So is Dumbledore REALLY dead? My bet is that he is not.

Wheatfield, NY(Zone 6a)

I'd bet on Dumbledore returning, too. In spirit if not in the flesh.

my lavender seed didn't germinate at all. fortunately I have more, so I'll try it again. glad you were successful. sounds like your w/s'ing went better than mine all around.

really like your little white wire fences

Springfield, MA(Zone 6a)

I had great results with the lavender - but I confess, I REALLY wanted these plants, so I started them inside. I have the next batch outside "spring sowing" so I expect these will eventually germinate in their little container as well.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Voodoo lily is not hard to grow, but all those dead animals required...Dumbledore can't really die - he's got that Phoenix thing going. I think the U.S. release date for the movie is July 13th. The last book is July 21st. Make sure lavender has great drainage or they will not survive winter.

Springfield, MA(Zone 6a)

Well, I spent a lot of time re-reading all of Harry Potter for clues - remember when Professor Snape said he could put a stopper in death in the first book?

Also, when any other person was given the Unforgivable Curse for killing, they dropped like a rock. Dumbledore goes over the edge of the castle. There were lots of other clues as well, but it's very early in the morning and I can't think straight.

How about bishop's weed for Voldemort? - Julie

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

Hi Julie!

I assumed that Dumbledore is dead in the Obi Wan Kenobi manner. Still available for help.
Your early Snape point is a great one!
I felt sure that Dumbledore wanted Snape to kill him as part of the plan. There is referrence to Harry overhearing Snape argueing with D and saying "I won't do it" Plus Dumbledore groveling with Snape not to kill him is way out of charecter for Dumbledore.
Now I have to rethink it from your perspective.

Springfield, MA(Zone 6a)

Yes - those were points I also noted. Boy, am I going to be disappointed if I am wrong!

But think! If Dumbledore can convince everyone he is dead - he can probably accomplish more in the fight against Voldemort without endangering others.

On the other hand, Rowlings states that number 7 is the last book for Harry - does Harry survive?

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Supposedly one of the main characters dies. Doubt it's Harry though. I think Hermione or Ron. Keith Richards does a good job convincing people he's dead. I'm convinced.

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

Can Keith snort his own ashes?

Springfield, MA(Zone 6a)

They will live on in my garden!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

He is certainly one weird dude. I heard that the ashes thing was an April Fools joke though. But with him, it's so believable!

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

Personally, I can never wait until the first of April to joke about mixing my father's ashes with cocaine.

July??

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

No April! What's wrong with you??

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

No fair! You edited your post - now mine looks silly. I'm telling Dave. No, not you - the guy with the garden and website, subsidiary of NameMedia, etc.

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

Wow! Victor is really losing it. I think the affair with Maureen O'Hara did him in.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Is it me or is it just the Pirl / Dave / Victor show on NE????!! Do we start our own forum?

Springfield, MA(Zone 6a)

I just can't think of anything witty enough to keep up with you three :-)

Besides . . . you keep referring to old movie stars I don't know . . . lol

Seandor, I would love to hear more about your Harry theory. And now, so would my wife & daughter.

Springfield, MA(Zone 6a)

Gosh - I had it all figured out about a year ago - but I didn't take notes. But there are these little clues in all the books - like Sirius Black's brother is probably still alive, etc.

Exams have just ended, and next week is taken up with end of term details, and the following week is last minute prep for the two summer courses I am teaching - when I have a moment, I will try to recall what I can.

Cheers to a fellow Harry fan.

Michaela

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I love your name, Michaela. May I use it instead of Seandor?

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

I agree that Michaela is a lovely name. But Victor, Ithink you should use your own name. If you use Seandor's names, we won't know what to call her and there will be a lot of confusion.
If you need to switch, Victoria would cause less confusion.

Springfield, MA(Zone 6a)

I'm glad you like my name . . . I chose it myself :-). In fact, none of my legal names are names I was born with. My parents had ghastly taste in names - and I haven't been called by any of them since I was 17. When I got my associates diploma, there were those horrible names - so that convinced me to make the change legal, since I didn't want them showing up on any other documents. Besides, no one would even know to whom the names referred.

so, of course, you can call me Michaela - or Seandor - as you please. :-)

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Okay - can of worms. We NEED to hear these names!!

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

I'm with Victoria!

Springfield, MA(Zone 6a)

Are you kidding - This is a Lord of the Flies kind of moment. . . LOL

Ethel May Grace. (I could have lived with Grace) Maiden name Wandell.
