I have more dirt to pile in that corner, then I will smooth it out and plant flowering annuals - maybe larkspur - on it. the fence will be painted this year. DH want to paints it a rosy beige colour. Just behind where the daffodils are, I have planted oriental lilies. I still need some sort of shade groundcover for along the side fence - or else some tall, narrow plant that loves shade and moisture. The little white wire borders are protecting two new roses: Margaret Merril - a fragrant white rose, and Betty Harkness a fragrant, salmon coloured rose. In the foreground will be Welsh Gold - an amber coloured rose. Between the roses, is lavender that I planted last fall. I ordered it from Michigan Bulb because they were supposed to send potted plants - what I got was soggy bare-rooted stuff that mostly looked rotted. So far, of twelve plants, one appears to be putting out leaves. Thank goodness Grampapa shared some lavender seed with me (yep - I have 20 germinated, and I have started with round two, and if I have too many, I will share the plants with neighbours and friends.) Other plants include tall phlox (just germinating), veronica sunny day blue (?), pinks (Helen), and Blue wonder catmint. Still lots of room to fill with annuals until the perennials fill in. :-) |
